Chapter 11
[Route 3]
Lynn and her 2 companions had stopped at the Pokecenter just outside one of the entrances of Mt. Moon. Along the way, both Ronnie Anne and Clyde battled some trainers to help get them ready for Cerulean City. Clyde won and lost his 2 battles, while Ronnie Anne won 1 and lost 2. The second loss was because she used Poochyena and she didn't listen to her trainer. Once they got to the pokecenter yesterday, they planned to stay for the night and leave first thing in the morning. Lynn called home to her parents while the other 2 watched Lincoln's gym battle against Sabrina in the lobby. While talking to her parents, she learned they had a watch party for Clyde's and Ronnie Anne's first gym battle. They invited the Mcbrides, Ronnie Anne's mother and friends. Her parents also told her that Ronnie Anne's mother, Maria Santiago, might want to talk with because they heard how the young Santiago caught her Poochyena. This caused Lynn to let out a groan of annoyance, but told them she understood and have her companions call home immediately. After saying her goodbyes she returned to the lobby to tell the others what she just learned. Both kids called home immediately after being told by Lynn, with Ronnie Anne being a little nervous. Lynn stood beside Ronnie Anne as she spoke with her mother, both apologizing for what happened and telling her it wouldn't happen again and keeping a closer eye on them. Maria chastised her daughter for doing something dangerous and she should've told Lynn where she was going, before congratulating her and wishing her luck on her journey. For Clyde, his dads' congratulated him, before fussing over whether he was carrying everything he needed in case of an accident with his Oddish's Poison Powder or Stun Spore. Clyde assured them he had everything he needed and Lynn had some too. After their conversations they decided to call it a night.
Ronnie Anne and Clyde had just finished getting ready for the day and given the room key back to Nurse Joy. They start looking for Lynn in the lobby, only to find her and her Lycanroc talking to another trainer in a far corner of the room. He looked to be older than then, but younger than Lynn. He wore a black suit with a white undershirt and red tie, black gloves, with black and white runners. He had short bright blue hair with his bangs covering his left eye. As the 2 trainers got close, they could hear their conversation.
"-Have one, just not on me. I'll have to meet with him again to get one." The blue hair trainer said.
"Can you get one and go to Cerulean City? That's where I'm heading." Lynn asked.
"Yes that will work for me, I need to go to Saffron City anyways to meet with another." The boy replied with a smile.
"I'll see you in Cerulean in a few days then" the Loud girl said with a smile.
"Just don't take too long, otherwise I'll be gone and on my way to Saffron" he told her in a serious tone before walking away.
Both younger trainers looked at their mentor with confusion, before Clyde asked what they were both thinking. "Who was that?"
"Not here" Lynn replied while looking around the room at everyone. "I'll explain while going through Mt. Moon." They nodded in agreement and left the pokecenter to start the traverse through the Mountain.
[Mt. Moon]
They have been traveling the mountain for the last 20 minutes, following the path and signs so as not to get lost. Lynn told them if they followed the signs and path, they should reach the other side close to nightfall. Which meant that they would be camping for the night. "Now that there's no one around, are you going to tell us who you were talking to and why?" Ronnie Anne asked, a bit miffed.
Lycanroc looked at his trainer silently asking if it's a good idea to tell them. Lynn just shrugs her shoulders answering the silent question, before looking back at her to students. "That guy was a runner for an unofficial breeder and I was asking if he had a certain Pokemon." Both younger trainers looked at her with shock and curiosity, however before one of them could ask a follow up question, Lynn continued. "Me and Linc are having a little competition for this upcoming Christmas. We are both getting both Lana and Lily a Pokemon, the family will pick which one of us got the better Pokemon for each girl. By better Pokemon, we mean which Pokemon best suits their personality and looks like one that those girls would pick to have if given the chance. We already told our parents about this and they got the licenses and permits for the girls to have them as pets. This is a surprise for the whole family."
"What do you mean by runner?" Clyde asked, still mildly shocked at what he just heard.
"Runners are the people who sell the Pokemon for unofficial breeders" Lynn replied looking back down the path. "I guess you could call them dealers, but it sounds too much like their dealing drugs. It makes them sound like they're doing something criminal."
"Aren't they?" Ronnie Anne asked skeptically with a raised eyebrow.
"The law is…very confusing around unofficial breeding" Lynn replied while putting her hands in her jacket pockets. "People that do that don't go to jail for it, usually. If it's a trainer they'll lose their license and be banned from trying to receive another for a time. How long depends on the severity of the case, it could be a few months to a lifetime ban. For everyone they will take away the Pokemon that were being bred, and maybe every Pokemon they own depending on the severity of the case. Receive a fine for breeding without a license that would cost anywhere from 50,000 to 50,000,000 pokedollars. In worst case scenarios where the Pokemon that were being released cause immense damage to private or public, cost people or businesses to lose money, or alter the ecosystem of the area, you would get everything I said before plus jail time."
Both young trainers couldn't believe what they just heard. "So…what Pokemon are you looking for?" Ronnie Anne asked to break the awkward tension that surrounded them.
"I'm looking for a Galarian Ponyta for Lily" she replied without looking back. "I don't know how it'll behave, so I might have to send it to the official breeder Linc and I know to get an egg and give that one to Lily. I'm cutting it close and don't know if I'll have enough time to hatch it before Christmas."
"What did you get for Lana?" Clyde asked, now very curious about the contest. "Also do you know what Lincoln got them?"
"No I don't know, but I have a guess of what he got Lana" Lynn said a little annoyed. She wanted to get that one for Lana, but Lincoln caught one long before her. "As for what I got for her, it's a Trubbish. Even though she doesn't do it anymore, it reminds me of when she would dig through the garbage and eat almost whatever she found." All 3 trainers shivered in disgust remembering what Lana was like. "Any more questions?"
"How much are you paying for this Ponyta?" Ronnie Anne asked. She was thinking of incensing her team a bit.
"Right now the price for it is 10,000 pokedollars" Lynn replied while scratching her chin. "It's not a rare Galar Pokemon, but hard to come by in Kanto. However, I might be able to lower the price depending on the Pokemon condition. If it looks well cared for, it's behavior towards humans, if it shows signs of aggression to anything, and age of the Pokemon. Any of these could help me lower the price."
"Wow, you sound like you're going to purchase a purebred dog from back home," Ronnie Anne said in shock. She didn't think you have to put that much thought into buying a Pokemon from an unofficial breeder.
"In a way you're doing that when you buy any Pokemon, official breeder or not" the athletic girl said with a shrug of her shoulders. "The only difference is you can most likely trust the official breeders of Pokemon to be good to go or give from the get go. Unofficial breeders could have anything." Both trainers thought about what she just told them and now knew they still have much more to learn about this world.
It has been a good few hours since they entered the mountain and they believe they were almost out. They had stayed on the path and along the way saw a few wild Pokemon. Geodudes and Gravelers, a couple of Machops and lots of Zubats. They had just entered a new section of the mountain when they heard a familiar sound.
"Is that another group of Zubats?" Clyde asked in disbelief and annoyance.
"Why are there so many Zubats in these caves!" Ronnie Anne shouted in frustration. Both younger trainers have seen enough Zubats for a lifetime. Lynn's Lycanroc had scared who knows how many Zubats away.
"Wait this is different" Lynn replied, listening closely to the sound. "I think this group caught something."
"Then let's go before they notice us!" Ronnie Anne exclaimed, not wanting to deal with any more Zubats.
The group walked carefully so as to not draw any Zubats attention, soon they saw the colony of Zubats they heard. There were 7 Zubats attacking and harassing a small cream colored Pokemon. Both girls started to walk away ignoring the Pokemon, but Clyde recognized the Pokemon from his studying.
"Hey! Leave it alone!" Clyde shouted as he ran to help the small Pokemon. Both of his companions yelled for him to stop or not to do anything, but he ignored them and continued on. He pushed past the Bat Pokemon and used his body to protect the smaller Pokemon. He felt the other Pokemon Bite and Wing Attack him, before a loud roar was heard. The Roar came from Lycanroc and scared the Zubats away. Once he knew they were gone he looked back, only to see Ronnie Anne's look of disbelief and Lynn's disapproving glare.
"Clyde that was insane and incredibly ballsy" Ronnie Anne complimented with a smile.
"Are you and Santiago trying to get your parents to drag you home?!?" Lynn shouted in frustration and annoyance. "Mrs. Santiago was willing to forgive what happened to Ronnie Anne, but you dads will blow a gasket if they find out what you just did. You should've sent out Oddish if you wanted to help!"
"I know, but I need to save this Milcery," Clyde replied.
"Save what now?" Ronnie Anne questioned, confused. Clyde moved out of the way to reveal the Pokemon known as Milcery.
"I study a bit about Milcery, but never thought I would see one," Clyde replied while picking up said Pokemon. Milcery meanwhile let out happy cries while nuzzling in Clyde. "Milcery, and their evolved form Alcremie, are native to the Galar Region." He then looked to Lynn "do you think-"
"Most likely the result of a trainer" Lynn cut him off before he could ask. "Seeing it not trying to run away or acting hostile, it's hard to tell if it was abandoned or released labeled as a failure. I supposed it could be the offspring of one of the others and has no reason to hate or fear humans. Well whatever the case, put it down and let's go before more Zubats show up or worse their evolved forms."
"We can't just leave it! It'll get attack again!" Clyde shouted in disbelief and fury. "We should take it with us out of the cave." Lynn was about to refuse his suggestion, but Clyde cut her off with a pleading expression. "Please, I'll let it go once we're out of the caves." Ronnie Anne and Milcery joined in, looking at her with pleading expressions as well.
"Alright fine, it can come with us" Lynn gave in with a huff of annoyance. The 3 let out a cheer as they continue the path to get out. Ronnie Anne was asking questions about Milcery, Clyde was answering what he could, and Milcery just loved the attention. Lycanroc followed them to keep them out of trouble and Lynn stood in the place they found the Cream Pokemon. "Those two just give me a headache sometimes," she said to herself with a sigh. "Makes me wonder how Linc put up teaching me when I started." She was about to go join her group when something caught her eye on the ground. She crouched down to get a better look at it, when she did her eyes widened at what she saw. "No way! This is!" Her voice filled with shock and disbelief, before a smile creeped on her face. "It seems like helping the little guy paid off." She said to herself before grabbing what she saw and put it in her pocket.
[Route 4]
After a long walk and running into who knows how many colonies of Zubats, they finally made it out of Mt. Moon. "Finally we made it through!" Ronnie Anne cheered as she looked towards the setting sun.
"Traveling through caves is always a pain," Lynn said as she let out a tired sigh. She then turned her attention to the only boy of the group, seeing him put Milcery on the ground.
"There you go," Clyde said to the Pokemon, putting it on the ground. "Now that you're out of that cave, you don't need to worry about those Zubats anymore. Now you should go find a safe place to stay." Milcery expressed sadness and clung to his leg the best it could. "There's nothing to worry about, you're safe here" he comforted the Pokemon, only for it to continue to cling on to him.
"I don't think it wants to leave you Clyde" Ronnie Anne claimed with a smirk. The Cream Pokemon cried and nodded in agreement with her. "Why not catch it? We're almost to Cerulean City and it would be tough to win your next gym battle with just your Oddish. Besides you're going to need to catch more for your team anyways, why not start with Milcery?"
"I don't-I mean I…" Clyde stumbled to come up with a response. While he did think about it, he was unsure if catching the Milcery was the right decision. He looked to Lynn for guidance, who only shrugged her shoulders silently saying "It's your choice". He looked down at the Pokemon and asked "Are you sure you want to come with me?" Milcery cried happily, which then Clyde pulled out an empty pokeball. "Alright then" he said before pressing the pokeball against it. It then became light, went inside the ball, and the light immediately flashed green indicating the Pokemon was caught.
"Way to go Clyde!" Ronnie Anne congratulated while giving him a slap on the back.
"Yes congratulations are in order…" Lynn started to say, looking at the 2 tiredly. "...But unless you like sleeping under the stars, we need to get our tents up before it gets too dark and we still need to feed our Pokemon." Both younger teens let out a silent groan before moving to do what the older girl said.
AN: Now I did write Ronnie Anne's mother and friends reaction to her gym battles, along with Clyde's dads, in my other story "Tales of the Loud's Pokemon Adventures". Why? Because I feel that was a side story and only want to post main story chapters on this story. Now don't expect that for every gym battle, because I'm not sure if I'll do it again. Also it was my first time writing a reaction chapter, so don't go in with high expectations.
