Chapter 349: Cutty Sark 2
Wednesday, February 1st, PM (Eastern Standard Time)
They were in the Mercedes, Brooke insisted. "Lucas's car is fine, but taking three young doctors out to a nice restaurant it just won't do," Brooke said to Lucas. Candi knew well enough not to fight with Brooke once she put her foot down.
The valet parked the SUV as someone held the door open for them. Lucas let the three women go ahead. They looked around the place as Lucas went to the hostess station.
"Did you put the reservation under one of us?" Madyson asked.
"Because we're doctors?" Fawn asked.
"Well, I heard it works, sometimes," Madyson said.
"Don't worry about it here," Candi said.
"Oh, Coach Scott, how are you doing? I thought I saw your name on the list," The Hostess said and clicked a button.
"Yes, I'm doing well, Mieke," Lucas said, in a polite voice, "Who's the chef tonight?"
"Connie's in the kitchen, Coach Scott," Mieke, the hostess, said.
Lucas nodded and was about to say something when Jackie Gregory walked over. The blonde woman wore her uniform, which was more formal than Mieke's uniform. "Coach Scott, welcome to the Cutty Sark 2," Jackie said.
"Thank you, Jackie," Lucas said.
Jackie collected a server and busboy with just a look. The server picked up four menus. "Please, follow me," Jackie said.
Lucas nodded and let the three women go first. Candi sort of herding Madyson as they walked through the dining room.
"What's going on?" Madyson asked.
"VIP Treatment," Candi said.
"Really?" Madyson asked.
Candi nodded, "Yeah, we're here with my dad," she said.
"Why?" Madyson asked.
"Not sure specifically why," Candi said.
Lucas gave a sly smile as he listened to Madyson and Candi chat. He could see the tension in Fawn's shoulders. Lucas guessed that Madyson sometimes was trying on Fawn's patience.
Jackie took the coats from Lucas and each of the ladies and handed them to the busboy. He wandered off with the coats. Lucas pulled out and held a chair for Candi, while Jackie did the same for Fawn, and the server did it for Madyson. Once everyone was seated, the server handed out the menus, and Jackie looked at Candi.
"Welcome to Cutty Sark 2; your server tonight is Caris; would you like to hear the specials?" Jackie asked.
"No, thanks, I'm good, Jackie," Lucas said.
"I'm good, thank you," Fawn said.
"Thank you, I'm good," Candi said.
Madyson just shook her head. "Very well, enjoy your evening," Jackie said and left Caris alone with them.
"Hello, I'm Caris. Would y'all like to start with some drinks?" Caris asked.
"I'm fine with water, for now," Lucas said.
"Waters good for now," Candi said.
Fawn showed the server her menu and pointed to a name. "I'd like a glass, please," Fawn said.
"Very nice selection, Ma'am," Caris said.
Caris moved over to Madyson.
"I don't know any of these wines," Madyson said.
Candi leaned over and looked at the list. "They're all local," Candi said and pointed to one, "I think you'll like that one."
"Thanks," Madyson said and turned to Caris, "I'd like a glass, please."
"Very well," Caris said, "Do y'all need more time?"
"Yes, please," Lucas said.
"I'll get your drinks," Caris said and left.
Lucas looked the three women over and settled his eyes on Madyson. "In case you're wondering when Candi's in town, I always take her out to dinner, and if she brought friends home, I take them as well," he said.
Madyson nodded, "Okay," she said.
"So, I know Candi very well," Lucas said.
"You better," Candi said, laughing.
"Yeah, unfortunately, I can't get rid of her now," Lucas said.
"Hey," Candi said.
"Anyway, I've met Fawn before," Lucas said.
"You know that grilling you like?" Fawn asked, Madyson.
"Yes," Madyson said.
"Lucas taught me," Fawn said.
"Oh really," Madyson said.
Fawn nodded, "Yeah," she said.
"So, Madyson, I've been remised not getting to know you. Now that the chaos the school put me through is over, we can rectify this oversight," Lucas said.
"Sure," Madyson said.
"So, who is Doctor Madyson Longford?" Lucas asked.
"Well, I'm from Australia, if you haven't guessed, Melbourne specifically. My mother still lives there, as do my siblings. I'm the oldest and the best looking," Madyson said, chuckling.
"What happened to your dad?" Lucas asked.
"He passed soon after my baby brother was born," Madyson said.
"I'm sorry," Lucas said.
"It's okay," Madyson said, "It was a while ago."
"What brought you to the United States?" Lucas asked.
"I always wanted to travel, and had the opportunity to study here, and went to med school as well," Madyson said.
"Do you miss Melbourne?" Lucas asked.
Madyson nodded, "A bit, but I've been in the US for a while now. You know I played netball in Australia," she said.
Lucas nodded, "I've seen it, interesting game," he said.
"I enjoyed it, but I never played as intense as those girls last not," Madyson said.
"Well, I think some of that intensity was because of the ceremony," Lucas said.
"Oh, I wonder why?" Madyson asked.
"Brett, the redhead, her mom, who is one of my assistants, was on the team being honored," Lucas said.
"Trying to show up her mom?" Madyson asked.
"Something like that," Lucas said.
"I can understand what's going through her mind," Madyson said.
"I think we all can," Lucas said.
Madyson nodded, "So, are you really as accomplished as we're led to believe?" she asked.
"What do you mean?" Lucas asked.
"I looked you up on Wikipedia," Madyson said.
"You know that is unreliable," Fawn said.
"I know," Madyson said.
"My article is generally accurate," Lucas said.
"It is?" Madyson asked.
"It is; I generally fix it when I find errors," Candi said.
"Oh wow!" Madyson said, but there wasn't any follow up Caris came back with Fawn and Madyson's glass of wine.
"Are we ready to order?" Caris asked.
Lucas nodded, "Yes, I think we are," he said.
Caris produced her notepad. "Go ahead," she said.
Lucas nodded, smiled, and started ordering dinner.
