Chapter 363: Red Bedroom Records

Friday, February 3rd, Morning (Eastern Standard Time)

One thing she remembered to bring with her from California was her RBR ID. Keith gave this ID to her and said that she should have access since she was one of the "founders." This often made Candi wondered if they ever took her off the books at RBR.

The inner doors unlocked as she walked through to the lobby. The guard at the desk watched her as she passed through the gate. Candi noticed the guard glanced down at a screen. His face showed puzzlement for a moment, then he nodded. Looking up, he smiled at her.

"Have a good day, Doctor Scott," The Security Guard said.

"Thank you," Candi said and walked over to the building directory. Looking up the name was easy, and Candi found which floor. With a nod, she walked towards the elevator lobby. Candi passed by a door and heard the door unlock. This action surprised Candi, but she shrugged it off and pressed the call button for the elevator.

The elevator doors opened on one of the elevators. Candi got in and pressed the button for which floor she wanted. She rode the elevator and could hear the soft refrain of a Nordwind Song on the elevator's speaker. Candi made a face as she rode the elevator up.

The doors opened on her floor, and she got out. Candi looked at the wall at the end of the lobby. In big letters lit up by LEDs that slowly shifted color was the name Red Bedroom Records.

Candi smiled and headed towards the door, which unlocked as she approached. Looking at the door with surprise, Candi shrugged and entered the lobby. The receptionist looked at Candi.

For a minute, the receptionist seemed to tense up. Candi noted that the receptionist kept looking down at a screen on her desk. Studying the receptionist, Candi noted the receptionist's badge was lined in green, while Candi's was lined in red. Candi wondered if there was a difference.

"Hello, Ms. Scott," The receptionist finally said as she looked up from the screen.

"Doctor Scott, please," Candi said gently.

"Yes, Doctor Scott, who are you here to see?" The receptionist asked.

"Mrs. James-Scott," Candi said, noticing there's tension in the woman's voice.

"Go ahead," The receptionist said.

"Thank you," Candi said and stepped towards the inner door, which unlocked for her. Candi chuckled and opened the door. She stepped through to the office.

The last time Candi had been here, RBR hadn't moved in yet. Candi took in everything happening with a smile and a nod; she turned and walked by a line of closed office doors, the doors all unlocked for her.

Candi stopped by a corner office and looked at the door. She nodded and went to the door next to it. Even though the door unlocked, Candi still knocked.

"Come in," Haley said from the other side.

Candi opened the door and stepped in. Haley stood up and looked at her niece. "Hi Candi, I didn't expect to see you," Haley said.

"I've not gotten a chance to see you, and well, I'm leaving Sunday," Candi said.

"Please, have a seat," Haley said.

"Thank you," Candi said.

Haley took a seat behind her desk; Candi selected a chair in front of the desk. The two women looked each other over.

"So, how is your visit going?" Haley asked.

"It's going well, Fawn came with me, and another roommate, Madyson, also came with," Candi said, studying her aunt.

"I remember Fawn, great friend, and woman," Haley said.

"Yes, she is. How do you like these offices?" Candi asked.

"You'd know if you came home more often," Haley said and laughed, "That's right, you weren't here when we first moved in," she finished, and Candi noted Haley looked tired.

"No," Candi said and shook her head, "They were finished with the fit-up, but y'all were still in the old buildings."

"It's been good, except…." Haley said and trailed off.

"Yeah, I know," Candi said.

"Well, some dreams do come true," Haley said and trailed off.

"So, Aunt Haley, what's bothering you?" Candi asked.

"What do you mean?" Haley asked.

"Aunt Haley, you look like you've not slept in at least one or two nights," Candi said.

Haley nodded, "Always the doctor," she said.

"Yes, so what's going on?" Candi asked.

"Brian," Haley said.

"Brian, still?" Candi asked, her blood running cold with memories, especially the last one.

"A woman showed up at our door and claimed her son is Brian's," Haley said.

"Brian's, really, after all these years?" Candi asked.

Haley nodded, "The boy's age makes it possible," she said.

Candi nodded, "Anything is possible with Brian. I still remember that night," she said, her eyes starting to glaze over.

"It's got to be hard," Haley said.

Candi nodded, "Yeah, I sort of lost it," she said.

Haley nodded, "Thanks for what you did," she said.

"It's my job," Candi said.

"So, how do you like your building pass?" Haley asked.

"It's fine, but people seem nervous around me, and every door unlocks," Candi said.

"You have a founder's pass; that's the color why they're nervous around you," Haley said.

Candi looked down at the passed and looked to See Haley's was redlined, "Oh, what about the doors?" she asked.

"The family pass unlocks almost all the doors," Haley said, "There are some secure areas where it by itself won't work."

"Oh," Candi said.

"Why do you looked so surprised?" Haley asked, "You're officially employee number four."

"But," Candi said.

"Those are the facts; the most junior person on that list is Jen Parker," Haley said.

Candi nodded, "Okay," she said.

Haley laughed, "Don't worry about it," she said.

"So, back to this surprise visitor, are you doing the normal thing?" Candi asked.

"Yeah, your uncle is handling some of the investigations," Haley said.

"When will we be finished with this?" Candi asked.

Haley sighed, "I don't know when," she said.

Candi nodded, "Leave it to Brian to cause all this drama," she said.

"Yeah, but you didn't come here to talk about Brian's drama," Haley said.

"I came to visit my aunt, and if that includes all of her drama that my cousin caused," Candi said and shrugged, "So be it."

Haley laughed, "Thanks, Candi," she said.

"You're welcome, Aunt Haley," Candi said.

Haley sighed, "Why don't you get Fallon out of her office?" she asked.

"This is where Fallon's been hiding?" Candi asked.

"Yeah, she has an office here," Haley said.

"She does?" Candi asked, still unsure.

"Yeah, the corner office on the other side," Haley said.

"No shit," Candi said.

"Yeah, drag her out, take her to lunch; she doesn't need to hide in that office," Haley said.

"Okay," Candi said, got up, and left the office. All Candi could think about was that's weird.
