It was in those days that, surprising everyone-but not his brother-Ezran announced that he would have no longer taken part in any military action, and took off his father's armor to never wear it again.
"I have seen enough blood." he explained to his advisors. " If the kingdom is threatened, I am sure General Gren will be able to defend it. But that won't be necessary. Not after this battle."
Ezran's predictions proved to be right: with the death of Sol Regem and the defeat of his supporters, all opposition to the peace proposal with Neolandia also disappeared. Moreover, even the most intransigent Hikmas had to admit that the eclipse was a clear sign that the gods were against the continuation of the war. Moreover, even if no elf would ever admit it openly, no one wanted to challenge Ezran's will after his army had shown they could fight - and win - the invincible Archdragons.
Quoting the every day more cynical Callum,
"Our army has been halved, in order to repair the damage of the invasion we had to spend until the last Phoenix of our treasure, we are barely able to defend our borders: but we killed Sol Regem, and therefore everyone fears us. I never thought I would have thanked the naivety of the masses, but right now it's saving our lives."
At Lux Aurea, Janai had firmly regained control of her kingdom: she was the first Elven ruler to recognize the Magic Republic of Neolandia, and to send ambassadors to Shafiz. The other elven lords followed her example, and even the mighty Archdragons raised no objection.
Queen Zubeia, while avoiding for obvious reasons to attend in person, sent the magician Ibis, who after the resignation of Rayla had become captain of the Dragonguard, as representative of the Storm Spire.
On April 10, 1245, in the seventh year of Ezran's reign, the Treaty of Shafiz was signed, ending the Great Western War.
In it the Pentarchy was definitively abolished: of the five original human kingdoms, only Evemere had not undergone territorial changes. In particular, it was difficult to draw the new boundary between Del Bar and Neolandia: remember that under the regency of Ilehas Neolandia had occupied some northern provinces of Del Bar, sparsely populated but rich in mineral resources, and King Vigimer was eager to get them back. Del Bar's cunning ruler was a skilled negotiator, but the Neolandians could count on Policar's "golden tongue" ability:
"I could spend hours watching them discuss. Sometimes I even get the impression that they are having fun: for the first time Policar met an opponent at his height. I even wonder if they're dragging this out for the sake of continuing to debate." writes Callum.
Eventually, Neolandia agreed to return almost all of the occupied territory. In return, Vigimer pledged to pay within thirty years the enormous sum of twenty million thalers.
As for relations with Xadia, the Magic Republic adhered to the principles of the Supreme Charter of Katolis, guaranteeing freedom of worship and free movement of elves in the territory. The only difference, of course, was dark magic.
The question of the hunt for magical creatures was decided with the principle "cuius regio, eius usus magicarum creaturarum", which stated that every ruler had full right to decide on the matter in his territory. For example, in Xadia the hunt for magical beings remained forbidden, and in Katolis it was severely restricted, while in Neolandia and Del Bar the law was much more permissive. Soon, however, the dark magicians began to develop rearing techniques to not depend only on hunt, and those techniques would have spread in the following centuries even in Katolis.
Since breeding magical creatures is extremely difficult, it was a real revolution from a point of view of dark magic, and it was only possible thanks to a huge economic and political effort of the Republican government, which understood very well that the nation could not depend on imports.
The Treaty of Shafiz is rightly considered the greatest success of Ezran's entire reign.
After over a millennium, the entire continent was at peace: Ezran had thus succeeded in completing what he had begun when, seven years earlier, he had abandoned his castle to bring the dragon prince's egg back to Xadia.
