Ezran I "the peacemaker" (1238-1280)

The First Emperor. After defeating Viren the Usurper at the Battle of the Storm Spire, he obtained peace with Xadia. His reign was a time of unprecedented economic and cultural progress.

Aanya I "sword-in-hand" (1236-1283)

Co-empress of Katolis since 1241, she is best remembered for her legendary martial prowess. Under her supervision, Katolis's army became the most powerful on the continent.

Harrow III (1280-1312)

He attempted to centralize the Empire at the expense of the nobility, who rebelled and attempted to assassinate him in 1301, during the failed Temple Conspiracy.

Sarai II (1312-1334)

During her reign, the Aaravosian Rebellion occurred, a bloody civil war that divided Xadia between the supporters of Archmage Aaravos and the forces of the Dragon King. Katolis's help was instrumental in turning the tide of war in favor of loyalists of Azymondias.

Harrow IV "the pious" (1334-1352)

A devoted ruler, he was responsible for the great expansion of the temple of Justice and the foundation of the monastery of Landevenne in northern Duren. He was a fervent supporter of the Ipatist doctrine, according to which all deities originated from one Divine Being, and thus came into conflict with the High Cleric. He was eventually dethroned by his daughter and exiled to Landevenne, where he ended his days as "Brother Modest".

Sarai III (1352-1379)

A cunning and ruthless sovereign, under her reign many nobles were exiled: some moved beyond the breach, where they founded Taras, the first human city of Xadia since the time of Elarion. She also dissolved the Council of Duren, finally incorporating the North into the Empire.

Ezran II (1379-1397)

An extremely cultured king, passionate about philosophy, magic and alchemy, he hosted at his court the greatest minds of his century, and wrote a monumental treatise on astronomy. Actually, he completely disregarded the administration of the empire, which he left in the hands of his Council.

Ezran III "the drunkard" (1397-1402)

Cruel and incapable, he managed within five years to antagonize both the nobility and the army, which rebelled in 1402. It is said that he committed suicide when Silvestro's forces laid siege to the capital, but there are no definite accounts.

INTERREGNUM-Silvestro, Hasin, Vitellius. (1402-1408)

Silvestro was the governor of the fortress city of Vadrato, Hasin the General in Chief of Duren. Both rebelled at Ezran III in 1402. Vitellius, a wealthy merchant (perhaps the richest man in the world at the time), formed an army of mercenaries and joined the power struggle in 1403. They were eventually defeated by the forces of Ezran IV's loyalists led by his trusty right-hand man, Herlaane.

Ezran IV (1408-1423)

Throughout his reign, the Empire underwent radical centralist reforms: a Chancellor was placed at the head of the High Council, and the entire territory was divided into provinces, each commanded by two officers, one civilian (gubernator) and one military (stratarch). The mind behind all these reforms was the famous Herlaane, called Steel Chancellor for his effective and brutal methods.

Callum I "the conqueror" (1423-1432)

Having ascended the throne at the age of 14, Callum was perhaps the greatest military genius in the history of the continent. After reforming the army, he embarked on a war of conquest that led him to completely annex Del Bar. He then turned his attention to the East, taking advantage of the Lux Aurean War of Succession, and occupying a third of Xadia. He was planning a campaign against Neolandia when he died, probably poisoned (although it is popular belief that he was killed by dark magic). His vast empire dissolved shortly after his death.

Callum II (1432-1456)

Unable to maintain the vast dominion built by his father, shaken by continuous rebellions, he guaranteed independence to Del Bar and Lux Aurea, still managing to preserve the appearance of a relationship of vassalage. He died following an unfortunate incident that went down in history as "the conspiracy of the burning latrine".

Ezran V "the sailor king" (1456-1483)

Fascinated by the ocean, under his reign the imperial fleet doubled, and expeditions were launched to map all the known seas. During one of these explorations the Black Islands were discovered, inhabited by fierce indigenous people. Due to an unfortunate misunderstanding, the inhabitants of the islands assaulted the expedition, wrecking two of the five ships of the expeditionary fleet.

Ezran VI "the one-eyed" (1483-1507)

So named for having lost an eye due to malaria in the marshes of Evemere, his kingdom was stable, but plagued by the fight against corruption that had made its way into the imperial administration. His methods proved to be effective, but also extremely brutal: for example, every official caught in the act of bribery was immediately condemned to be hanged, and likewise theft, falsification, and concussion became liable to capital punishment. He was not a sovereign loved by his subjects, and after his death almost all his laws were abolished.

Rayla I (1507)

The present Empress of the West, Queen of Duren and Katolis, Lady Palatine of Mordin and Lorian. May her kingdom be prosperous and her life long!
