Chapter 377: Jamlyn
Saturday, February 4th, Evening (Eastern Standard Time)
The distance between Beaulieu Manor and Jamlyn wasn't far, but Wyatt saw they passed the road to Tree Hill Hall. Currently, Wyatt found himself sitting in the front seat of the loaner car heading to Jamlyn. Wyatt looked over to see his mom driving the car. He got nervous with his mom behind the wheel. Back home, his mom didn't drive much, and it showed. This made Wyatt nervous.
Wyatt has seen his Uncle James' house many times. Jamlyn was the name of the place, supposedly a combination of his Uncle James and Aunt Ashlyn's first names. This convention was something similar to what Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks did with the name of their California Estate, Pickfair.
Trin turned down the drive to Jamlyn; it was curved and had a pair of switchbacks. This layout was an old trick to visitors to perceive that the estate had more land than what actually was as they turned around the final curve to see Jamlyn proper.
Jamlyn was an interesting mix; the main house was an old building in a classical style. A wing was built in a modern style; Wyatt knew the addition held the gym and a few other things that his Uncle James had added on.
The vehicle came to a stop in front of Jamlyn. Trin looked at Wyatt, sighed, and got out of the car. Trin retrieved a small briefcase from the back seat. Wyatt got out of the front seat and followed his mom as she walked towards the front door.
Trin rang the doorbell and waited. The door opened, and Ashlyn stood there. Jamlyn was a big house but wasn't the biggest of his family's houses. Ashlyn didn't keep staff but does have a cleaning service.
"Trin, please come in," Ashlyn said.
"Hopefully, this won't take long," Trin said.
"What do I owe this visit?" Ashlyn asked.
"I have the forms for you to sign for Brett to work in the show," Trin said.
"Okay, we can go over them in the kitchen," Ashlyn said.
"Alright," Trin said.
"You brought Wyatt?" Ashlyn asked.
"Yes," Trin said.
Ashlyn took a deep breath. "Well, it's going to take a bit," she said.
"It really shouldn't," Trin said.
"I want to look over the paperwork," Ashlyn said.
"Okay," Trin said.
"Wyatt, honey," Ashlyn said.
"Yes, Aunt Ashlyn," Wyatt said.
"Your Mom and I have some stuff to talk about, so why don't you hang out with Maeghan and the twins," Ashlyn said.
"We're going to be that long?" Trin asked.
"Better to be safe than sorry," Ashlyn said.
"Where are they, Aunt Ashlyn?" Wyatt asked.
"Hold on," Ashlyn said and picked up a tablet nearby. She looked it over, nodded, then put it down, "They're in the gym."
"Okay," Wyatt said.
"Do you know the way to get there?" Ashlyn asked.
"Yes, I do," Aunt Ashlyn," Wyatt said.
"Good," Trin said.
Wyatt watched as Ashlyn and Trin walked away. Wyatt nodded, looked around the hallway; once he got his bearings, he headed down a hall. Wyatt carefully picked his way through the corridors. Finally, he found the stairs that led down to the gym.
In the gym, Wyatt found Ashlyn's twin sons, Landen and Logan, playing basketball on the parquet floor. Wyatt stood there looking down at the court and saw the stylized blue and black logo.
Wyatt walked down to the bench and saw Maeghan sitting with a book. Slowly, Wyatt reached the bench and sat down next to Maeghan. After a moment, Maeghan looked up at Wyatt.
"Wyatt," Maeghan said.
"Hey, Maeghan," Wyatt said.
"So, what are you doing here?" Maeghan asked.
My Mom needed to have some paperwork signed by your mom," Wyatt said.
"So, why are you here?" Maeghan asked.
"My mom didn't expect it to be too long, and we were going out for ice cream after," Wyatt said.
"Ice cream, real ice cream?" Maeghan asked.
Wyatt nodded, "Yes, real ice cream?" he said.
"Yeah, Momma only lets us eat healthy ice cream at home; it doesn't taste as good," Maeghan said.
"Okay, why would your mom feed you bad-tasting ice cream?" Wyatt asked.
"Because it's healthy for us," Maeghan said, "And because of Brett's diet."
"Why is Brett on a diet?" Wyatt asked.
"Don't get me wrong, I love my sister, but it sucks what we've had to do for her," Maeghan said.
"Yeah," Wyatt said.
"Well, who knows what's up after Brett heads to college," Maeghan said.
"You move on, I guess; that's what my mom says," Wyatt said with a shrug.
"Well, I just don't want to go down that route," Maeghan said.
"What route?" Wyatt asked.
"The whole push to college," Maeghan said.
"Well, you have time to not worry about it," Wyatt said.
"What does that mean?" Maeghan asked.
"You're eight; it's going to be years before you have to," Wyatt said.
Maeghan looked at Wyatt, "Are you sure?" she asked, not believing him.
"Yes, I'm sure," Wyatt said.
Maeghan nodded, "Okay," she said.
Trin entered the gym and saw Wyatt and Maeghan talking. She smiled and nodded, slowly walking down to where the two kids were sitting. Trin looked out onto the court to see the twins playing basketball. Trin smiled a bit and headed towards Wyatt and Maeghan.
"Hi Maeghan, Wyatt," Trin said.
"Mom," Wyatt said.
"Ms. Adams," Maeghan said.
"How are you two doing?" Trin asked.
"I'm good, Mom," Wyatt said.
"Doing good, Ms. Adams," Maeghan said.
"So, what are you two talking about?" Trin asked.
"You know Mom, the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and everything," Wyatt said.
"One, Wyatt, don't be a smart-alecky, two, I need to hit your uncle for introducing you to Douglas Adams, and three, the answer is forty-two," Trin said.
"Hey, Uncle Tucker is fun to hang out with, and Douglas Adams has great stories," Wyatt said.
Trin shook her head, "Well, I'm not going to debate you, Wyatt; we have to head back to Beaulieu," Trin said.
"I thought we were getting ice cream," Wyatt said.
Trin nodded, "Yes, you're right, but let's get going then," she said.
"Yes, Mom," Wyatt said and turned to Maeghan, "I'll see you later, Maeghan."
"See you, Wyatt," Maeghan said.
"Trin nodded, "See you, Maeghan," she said and guided Wyatt out of the gym.
