Chapter 389: Tree Hill High School
Tuesday, February 7th, Morning
Looking up to the morning sky, Sawyer smiled and bopped her head a bit. The sky was a lovely shade of blue, the sky hadn't been blue in a while, and Sawyer loved it. The words to an old Foreigner song came to mind, Blue Morning, Blue Day, totally out of context, but it worked for her.
Finally, Sawyer looked to Keni and her cousin, Lydia Karen "LK" Scott, and smiled, "Blue Morning, blue day," Sawyer said.
"Song written by Lou Gramm and Mick Jones, off the album Double Vision, Gramm stats it's about a stressed-out young musician," LK said, in her deadpanned way.
"What does that have to do with anything?" Keni asked.
"Just how I feel, seeing a blue sky," Sawyer said.
"Whatever, Sawyer," Keni said and rolled her eyes.
"Sassy, why are we standing here? We should be inside the school. We're always inside the school at this time," LK said.
Sawyer pouted, "Neither of you are any fun," she said.
"Whatever, Sawyer," Keni said.
"Sassy, are you and Keni fighting?" LK asked.
"No, LK," Keni said.
"No, LK," Sawyer said.
LK nodded, "Okay," she said, staring off into space.
"I think we should head inside," Keni said.
"Okay," Sawyer said and nodded. The three girls headed towards the building. About halfway to the school, someone yelled, "Wait!"
The three girls stopped and turned to see who it was. The fifteen-year-old basketball player came running over. LK looked beyond the young man, Keni shook her head and rolled her eyes, and Sawyer just sighed.
"We need to be inside the school," LK said.
"What do you want, Jackin?" Sawyer asked.
Jackin Rothenburg walked up to them and sighed. "Can't I just say hi and talk?" Jackin asked.
"Why?" Sawyer asked.
"We're in the same year, and well, we're on the same floor most of the time," Jackin said.
"In that, you mean we cheer you on the basketball court?" Keni asked.
"Well, umm, I guess," Jackin said.
"Jackin, do you know how insulting that is?" Keni asked.
"What? No, I don't. I didn't mean it that way," Jackin said.
Another person came over and looked at Jackin. The new guy's hair was covered by a watch cap and studied the reaction between Jackin and the girls.
"What's going on here, Jackin?" Gareth Reuter asked.
"Mind your own business, Gar," Jackin said.
"My friends, my business," Gareth said.
"Gar, we can handle ourselves," Sawyer said.
"Just wanted to make sure," Gareth said.
Jackin chuckled, "See, Gareth, the girls don't you to white knight for them," Jackin said.
"What are you getting at, Jackin?" Gareth asked.
"Nothing," Jackin smiled, "But, no matter how much you try, she'll never think of you more than her friend."
"Like they'll notice you either," Gareth said.
"You had how long to get her notice," Jackin said, his voice cracked as it got deeper.
"What are you getting at?" Gareth asked.
"You couldn't close the deal," Jackin said.
"Gar, step down," Sawyer said.
"Sassy, are they fighting?" LK asked, her voice laced with the early signs of agitation.
"I'm not sure," Sawyer said.
"You pathetic excuse of a…." Gareth started to say, Jackin pushed, Gareth, they threw a punch interrupted Gareth.
Gareth staggered back and held his jaw. He rubbed his jaw and looked at Jackin, and shook his head. "You weak little shit," Gareth said.
Jackin snorted, "Whatever, you'll do nothing about it," Jackin said.
"You think," Gareth said and attacked Jackin.
LK screamed and started to shake in agitation. LK slipped down to sit on the floor, overwhelmed. Sawyer and Keni went to LK's side to try to comfort her and calm her down. By this time, Gareth and Jackin were wrestling on the floor awkwardly, trying to throw punches.
Finally, Dexter "Dex" Matthews came over and started to try and pull them apart. Dex was bigger and stronger than both of them, but he couldn't get a hold of them long enough to separate them.
"Boys! Stop it!" Mrs. Pierce-Scott yelled as she came running over; the heels of her dress boots clicked on the concrete. The boys' fighting didn't stop, and Dex kept trying his hardest to get them separated. Mrs. Pierce-Scott reached in and helped pull the two boys apart.
"Mister Rueter, Mister Rothenburg, what is this about?" Mrs. Pierce-Scott asked.
"He threw the first punch," Gareth said.
"It's your fault," Jackin said.
Mrs. Pierce-Scott shook her head. "Mister Matthews, please take these two to the office; I'll follow soon," she said.
"Yes, Mrs. Pierce-Scott," Dex said and started to guide Gareth and Jackin towards the office.
Mrs. Pierce-Scott walked over to where LK was on the floor with Sawyer and Keni trying to comfort her.
"Sawyer, Keni, can you get LK to the nurse?" Mrs. Pierce-Scott asked.
"We could try," Sawyer said.
Mrs. Pierce-Scott nodded, "Well, get her to the nurse, and have the nurse call her dad," she said.
"Yes, Mrs. Pierce-Scott," Sawyer and Keni said and started to get LK to her feet. Once she was up, they took her to the school.
Mrs. Pierce-Scott shook her and followed the kids to the school building.
