Chapter 393: The Scott Building

Tuesday, February 7th, Afternoon

It was starting to become routine for him now. Walking through the security and hearing the locks unlock and beep. Nathan Scott chuckled as he reached the elevator and pressed the call button. Once the elevator door opened, Nathan stepped into the car and rode up to the level he needed to be at.

Nathan walked through the lobby. The receptionist looked up at Nathan.

"Hello, Mister Scott," The receptionist said.

Nathan waved and walked through the inner doors. Once inside, he turned down a hall and walked towards the corner offices. He came to the one he wanted, right next to the actual corner office, which was currently unoccupied. Nathan shook his head and knocked on the door jam.

Haley James-Scott looked up from her desk. "How's LK?" she asked.

"I see I'm loved," Nathan said as he entered the office, "No, hi, how are you, the love of my life."

"Hi, how are you, where's my dad, and how's LK?" Haley asked.

Nathan took a seat and looked at his wife. "She's at school, calm now; it wasn't anything I did; it was Sawyer and Keni who did most of it," Nathan said.

"That's good, especially with the girls stepping up to help her," Haley said.

"It is, but LK needs more support than just the girls," Nathan said.

"True," Haley said, "What caused it?"

"Gareth Rueter got into a fight with a basketball player in front of LK and the girls," Nathan said.

Haley sight, "She doesn't handle fighting well," she said, "But Gareth Rueter got in a fight, that doesn't seem like him."

"I agree," Nathan said, "He doesn't seem like him, either."

"I wonder what it was about," Haley said.

"I just know some words were exchanged, and Sawyer said, something about Gareth thought he was protecting them, she was shaken I couldn't get things straight," Nathan said.

Haley sighed, "Still, Gareth never seemed like the white knight type," she said.

"Yeah," Nathan said.

There was a knock on the door jam. Haley and Nathan looked at the door; Haley's shared assistant stood in the doorway.

"Yes, Petal?" Haley asked.

"Ms. VanAnkeren, your next appointment is in the lobby," Petal said.

"Thank you, Petal, show her in," Haley said.

"Okay," Petal said.

Nathan started to stand up, "You've got an appointment; I should get going," he said.

"Nathan, sit down; you're going to want to be part of this," Haley said.

"Not another paternity test? I swear I should keep DNA on file at the test center," Nathan said, sitting back down.

"No, not this time," Haley said.

"What is this about?" Nathan asked.

"Ms. VanAnkeren is the filmmaker doing that film about Brian and Gabi and wants our support," Haley said.

"Do we have to do it?" Nathan asked.

"We can't escape the interest in our son and Gabi," Haley said.

Nathan sighed and nodded, "I guess you're right," he said.

"Anyway, she's going to do it anyway; we might as well have some input," Haley said.

Nathan nodded; there was another knock on the door jam. Nathan and Haley looked to see Petal had returned with a tall blonde woman.

"Mr. Scott, Ms. James-Scott, this is Ms. Felicia VanAnkeren," Petal said.

Both Haley and Nathan stood up. The young woman looked at them.

"Please, come in, Ms. VanAnkeren," Haley said.

"Thank you, Ms. James-Scott, for seeing me," Felicia said, entered the room, and shook Haley's hand. Haley noted Felicia had a firm grip. Felicia turned and faced Nathan offering him her hand. "You too as well, Mister Scott."

"You're welcome, Ms. Van Ankeren; please have a seat," Haley said.

Felicia sat down, "Please call me Felicia," she said, in a slight Dutch accent.

"Very well," Haley said.

"As I said before, thank you for meeting me on this project. I want to say it's a pleasure; I'm a fan of your music," Felicia said.

"Flattery will get you everywhere," Haley said, "So, tell me about this project."

"It's a passion project of mine," Felicia said, "Brian's music, especially with Kat, touched me deeply when I first saw them perform together."

"When did you first see them?" Nathan asked.

"I was ten years old, on their first festival tour in Europe, they had a day slot," Felicia said.

"So, it's a love letter?" Haley asked.

"That and more, it's my journey in understanding the creative forces and the personalities behind the music that touched me," Felicia said.

"Doing this project now, would this be because Brian is having a resurgence of popularity?" Nathan asked.

"I would be lying if I'd say the timing doesn't affect my choice to start this project, but his resurgence helped me get funding. I've been planning to do this since I was a teenager," Felicia said.

"What separates this from the two or three other films about Brian and Mental Lapse?" Haley asked.

"I want to tell the whole story, not just the triumphs, but also the failures, and cover Gabi as well," Felicia said.

"You want the dirt?" Nathan asked.

"I want to tell the whole truth," Felicia said.

Haley nodded, "Even if you damage those childhood memories?" she asked.

"Yes, it's better to understand why the music was so moving and touched me deeply," Felicia said.

"There's some very dark stuff in there," Nathan said.

"There are no good guys in this story, Felicia," Haley said.

"Even you, Ms. James-Scott?" Felicia asked.

"Yes, especially me," Haley said.

"It's about honesty, Ms. James-Scott, be it white, black, or gray," Felicia said.

Haley nodded, "What would you need from me and RBR?" she asked.

"Co-operation, arranging introductions, and interviews, most of all honesty," Felicia said.

Nathan nodded, "I understand," he said.

"I'll have legal send over some paperwork and send your paperwork to legal. We'll hash this out," Haley said.

"Okay, I will send over my paperwork and list of who I want to talk to," Felicia said.

Haley nodded, "So, tell me something, Felicia," she said.

"Yes, Ms. James-Scott?" Felicia responded.

"Tell me your most cherished memory from experiencing Brian's music?" Haley asked.

Felicia nodded, "I somehow got a hold of an old video file. It was a party at Club TRIC. Brian took Kat's bass, and she sang. Someone told me that was the first time she sang lead for the band. The song just filled my heart with its beauty, and Kat's voice was amazing," Felicia said.

"Do you remember the name of the song?" Haley asked.

"All Around Me," Felicia said, "Then something happened. There are panic people taken away; Brian steps up to the microphone and says in a fourteen-year-old's voice, Happy New Year, just a little excitement, people just partying a little too hard. Now we're going to play a song for you, and they played Something to Believe in."

Haley nodded, "That wasn't Mental Lapse," Haley said.

"It wasn't?" Felicia asked.

"No, it was High-Performance Heart Attack; that was the night we officially announced RBR's creation," Haley said.

"Wow!" Felicia said.

"Yeah, it was so long ago," Haley said.

"That performance hooked me even deeper. They were so young and innocent; how did it all end up in the end?" Felicia said.

"I've always believed HPHA is the purest form of Brian as a musician, and maybe as a person," Haley said.

Felicia nodded. Haley nodded, back, poker-faced, and knew she chose the right person.
