Chapter 412: Jamlyn

Friday, February 10th, Evening

After practice, she threw her bags into the backseat of her car. Starting it up, she drove across town and eventually pulled into the drive of Jamlyn. After parking her car in the drive, she got out, grabbed her bags, and ran into the house. Heading straight upstairs to her bedroom, she threw her two bags on her bed.

Brett's next stop was her bathroom and a post-practice shower. After the shower, she dried off and changed into the clothes she laid out. Brett nodded and collected her dirty clothes, putting them in a hamper. After Brett put her dirty clothes away, she shifted her bags into two piles.

Once finished, she looked to the door and saw Maeghan standing in the doorway. "So, you're going way with Aunt Brooke?" Maeghan asked.

"Yes," Brett said, "Just for the weekend."

"Why?" Maeghan asked.

"Aunt Brooke wanted me to do something for her," Brett said.

Maeghan nodded, "Is this one of Aunt Brooke's fashion shows?" she asked.

Brett nodded, "Yes, it is," she said.

"Oh, do you think Aunt Brooke would ask me when I'm old enough?" Maeghan asked.

"I don't know; I'm not Aunt Brooke," Brett said.

"It would be fair," Maeghan said with a pout.

"I guess you're right," Brett said.

"I'd do it if Aunt Brooke asked," Maeghan said.

"I'll be sure to let her know," Brett said.

"You'd do that for me?" Maeghan asked.

"Yeah, sure," Brett said.

"What did you just agree to?" Ashlyn asked as she came behind Maeghan in the door.

"Brett is going to tell Aunt Brooke that I would do one of her shows if asked," Maeghan said, in an excited tone, practically jumping up and down.

Ashlyn looked at Brett, "Oh really, Brett?" she asked.

Brett shrugged, "I said I would mention it," she said.

"Mhmm," Ashlyn said.

"Isn't that exciting, Momma?" Maeghan asked.

"Sure," Ashlyn said, "Where are your brothers?"

"In the gym, where else would they be?" Maeghan asked.

"Don't be smart," Ashlyn said.

"Sorry, Momma," Maeghan said.

"Go look after your brothers," Ashlyn said.

"Yes, Momma," Maeghan said and left. Once Maeghan was gone, Ashlyn looked at Brett.

"Don't tell me you promised Maeghan you would Aunt Brooke she'd walked if asked," Ashlyn said.

"I said it more sarcastically than serious, and anyway, Aunt Brooke is going to be too busy," Brett said.

"You have a good point there," Ashlyn said.

"That's not to say Aunt Brooke hasn't planned that far out," Brett said.

Ashlyn shook her head, "That sounds like Brooke. You figured that out already?" she said.

Brett shrugged, "I've spent a lot of time with her," she said.

"Yeah, so, anyway," Ashlyn said, "I came to see if you were all set."

Brett nodded, "I'm all set," she said.

"Which bags are going to your dad's?" Ashlyn asked.

Brett turned to look at several bags sitting in the corner of the room. "They're in the corner," she said.

Ashlyn nodded, "I'll run them over to your dad's tomorrow," she said.

"Thanks," Brett said.

"You're welcome," Ashlyn said, sighed, and looked over Brett's room before setting eyes back on Brett, "Which bags are you taking?"

Brett nodded, "On the bed," she said.

"I'll help you carry them down," Ashlyn said.

"Thanks," Brett said.

"You're welcome," Ashlyn said and grabbed a bag.

Brett nodded and grabbed the other bag. Mother and daughter went downstairs together. When they arrived in the foyer, there was a knock on the door. Ashlyn put the bag she was carrying down and answered the door.

At the door was an averaged sized man in his late thirties who stood there.

"May I help you?" Ashlyn asked.

"Yes, I'm here for Ms. Pierce-Burke," he said.

Brett nodded, "That's me," she said.

"Ma'am, my name is Burton; I'll be taking you to Ms. Davis' plane," he said.

"Thank you," Brett said, unsure of herself.

"May I take your bags, Ms. Pierce-Burke?" Burton asked.

Brett nodded, "Yes, you may," she said and put the bag she was carrying down. Burton took that bag, and the one Ashlyn carried out to the waiting limo.

Brett turned to Ashlyn, "I guess it's time for me to go," she said.

Ashlyn nodded, "Yeah, don't keep Brooke waiting," she said.

"I won't," Brett said, and the two women nodded.

Brett walked out the door and paused. The door closed behind her; Brett looked back and shrugged. After a deep breath, to screw up her courage, she walked to the limo. Burton held the door open for her.

After the door closed, Brett leaned back and looked out the tinted window. Burton put the limo in gear and drove off. Brett watched as Jamlyn slowly faded away.

The ride was quiet as Brett put in her earbuds and listened to her playlist. She hardly noticed the passing scenery around her as Brett stared blankly out the window. Burton had stopped trying to engage Brett with any sort of questions.

Eventually, they made it to the airport. Brett watched, blankly, as they drove to the private airplane terminal. Once the limo stopped, Burton got out and unloaded Brett's bags. Once he finished, he opened the door to let Brett out.

Brett sighed and watched the skycap took Brett's bags. Brett looked around, and someone walked over to Brett.

"Ms. Pierce-Burke?" The person asked.

"Yes," Brett said.

"Please, follow me; Ms. Davis is waiting for you," the person said.

Brett nodded and followed the person into the terminal building. Looking around the inside of the terminal, finally, they arrived where the rest of the party was.

"Brett," Bobbi-Lee said and stood up.

"Aunt Bobbi," Brett said, walked over to Bobbi-Lee, and hugged her. Brooke and Sam looked at the two redheads. After the two redheads separated, they looked each other over.

"Are you excited?" Bobbi-Lee asked.

"Nervous," Brett said.

Bobbi-Lee nodded, "You'll do fine," she said.

"Thanks," Brett said.

Bobbi-Lee rested a hand on her niece's shoulder. "I wanted you to be in my show," she said.

"Thanks," Brett said quietly.

Ellie joined the group and looked around. "So, everyone is here?" Ellie asked.

"Yes," Sam said.

Brooke nodded, "Let's go then," she said.

Bobbi-Lee nodded and smiled, "It's time to go," she said.

The five women walked to the door and out to the waiting Gulfstream. The boarding steps were built into the hatch. Brooke led them up into the waiting aircraft. Brett watched as Brooke found her seat in one of the captain's chairs.

Sam took a seat across from Brooke in another captain's chair. Brett sighed and found a seat on one of the bench seats, while Bobbi-Lee and Ellie found seats in another captain's chair.

Brett watched as the host walked through the cabin. The hatch was pulled closed and sealed. The host walked through the cabin and made sure everyone was buckled up. The host found their seat and buckled themselves in.

The engine revved up, and eventually, the Gulfstream started to taxi to the runway. Brett looked out the window as the plane taxied. The aircraft waited in line as it sat on the taxiway. Eventually, the Gulfstream got to the head of the line. Brett braced herself as the engines revved up and started rolling down the runway. Picking up speed, it soon overcame the grip of gravity. The private jet climbed into the air as Brett began to breathe again, watching Brooke and Sam work. Brett shook her head as they were off to New York City.
