Chapter 438: Seaview Parlor
Monday, February 13th, Afternoon
Lucas knocked on the front door of Seaview Manor. A few minutes later, the door opened, and Dr. Meggy Reuter stood there. She studied Sawyer, then looked at Lucas. He shivered, feeling Meggy's eyes study him from bottom to top.
"Lucas, Sawyer, what a nice surprise," Meggy said, almost purring Lucas's name.
"Doctor Reuter, is Gar home?" Sawyer asked.
"Yes, Gareth is home; he better be for getting suspended," Meggy said.
"Can I see him?" Sawyer asked.
"Yes, please come in," Meggy said, focusing on Lucas, almost with a purr in her voice, as she let Lucas and Sawyer in.
Sawyer ran right upstairs; Lucas watched his daughter take off. His eyes followed his daughter, out of habit, always worried about his kids. Lucas turned and looked at Meggy. The other woman looked at him, and Lucas wondered if there was hunger in her eyes.
"I wonder what that's about," Meggy said.
"Sawyer has always followed Sawyer," Lucas said.
"She's always been the unique one among your kids," Meggy said.
Lucas nodded, "She's been, I don't know, different," he said.
"So like her mom," Meggy said.
Lucas nodded, "Yes, she is," he said.
"She seems more spoiled than the other girls," Meggy said.
Lucas shrugged, "She's the baby of the family," he said.
Meggy nodded, "I see Brooke's influence on her," she said.
"Well, she's one of Brooke's girls," Lucas said.
Meggy walked over to Lucas. She ran a finger over his arm. "You're a good dad," Meggy said.
Lucas nodded, "Yeah, thanks," he said and looked around.
"I wish Gareth had a strong male role model in his life," Meggy said.
"What about his dad?" Lucas asked.
"He took off years ago, and is not in our lives," Meggy said.
Lucas nodded, "I feel for Gareth," he said.
"That's right, you didn't have a dad," Meggy said.
Lucas shook his head, "I had a dad, but my father wasn't part of my life," he said.
Meggy nodded and looked upstairs. "I've always wondered about those two," she said.
Lucas nodded, "Hmm," he muttered.
"What's that about?" Meggy asked.
"Brooke wonders about Sawyer and Keni," Lucas said.
"Don't you have any feelings about this?" Meggy asked.
Lucas shrugged, "I just want Sawyer happy and safe," he said.
"Sawyer and Gareth; they'd make a cute couple," Meggy whispered.
"That's for them to decide and not to interfere," Lucas said.
"It wouldn't be interfering, but we could push them in the right direction," Meggy said.
"That's still interfering," Lucas said.
"It would be good for Gareth, it would be good for Sawyer, for you and me," Meggy said.
"Meggy, no," Lucas said.
"No?" Meggy asked.
"No, to any of it," Lucas said.
"Why Lucas?" Meggy asked.
"Meggy, the kids have to forge their own path. You have to have your happiness," Lucas said.
"What about you, Lucas?" Meggy asked.
"I have two girls. I have to show what a real man acts to women. I have to teach them, so they know, so they don't get hurt," Lucas said.
"Hurt? Lucas, who's going to hurt Sawyer?" Meggy asked.
"My only duty now is to protect my children," Lucas said.
"You said two girls; who else other than Sawyer?" Meggy asked.
Lucas shook his head, "No, Meggy, everything is for Sawyer and Gareth to figure out," he said.
"They're fifteen," Meggy said.
"It could be simply a schoolboy teenage crush on Gareth's part," Lucas said.
"It's also possible to meet a future happily ever after in high school," Meggy said.
"I know; I met my wife at sixteen, knew of her for years though," Lucas said.
"It could be an endgame up there," Meggy said.
"It has to play out," Lucas said.
"All it takes is a nudge," Meggy said.
"The nudge could push them apart," Lucas said.
"But we could get them together," Meggy said.
"What would the result be?" Lucas asked.
"She could be here, Gareth's wife with her own establishment, and taken care of," Meggy said.
"An arranged marriage, what is this the Regency England?" Lucas asked.
"Lucas, you have five kids; most of them are girls. I know Keith will get Leighton, Ellie will probably get your New York place, Candi is successful, as is Kay, but what does that leave Sawyer?" Meggy asked.
"That's a lot of assumptions, Meggy," Lucas said.
"I love Sawyer like a daughter I never had; I just want her to be taken care of," Meggy said.
"Sawyer has her own goals and ambitions, and I'm pretty sure it's more than marrying and pushing out grandbabies," Lucas said.
"You said it yourself you found end game in high school," Meggy said.
"We needed to chase our dreams before Keith brought us together," Lucas said.
"Oh!" Meggy said.
Lucas nodded, "Yeah," he said.
"I always thought it was Candi," Meggy said.
"Candi is a whole another story," Lucas said.
"I didn't know; I always saw her with Peyton when she was home," Meggy said.
"She worked for Peyton," Lucas said, "It took years, but they eventually got along."
"Sawyer was close to Candi and Keith," Meggy said.
"Still is," Lucas said, "The twins had each other, and I think Sawyer helped Keith and Candi through tough times."
"So, Sawyer was hardcore into basketball, I don't get it, but suddenly she's a cheerleader?" Meggy asked.
"That's a personal reason for Sawyer and not my place to tell," Lucas said.
"You Scotts have your secrets," Meggy said.
"Well, I'm still meeting all the skeletons," Lucas said.
Meggy shook her head, "Still meeting them?" Meggy asked.
"Every family has them," Lucas said.
Sawyer came down the stairs; Lucas noticed her eyes were red and puffy from crying.
"Is everything…." Lucas began.
"It's been worked out," Sawyer said.
"Are you sure?" Lucas asked.
"Dad, I've said it's been worked out. Let's just go home," Sawyer said and went out the front door.
"Thank you for your hospitality," Lucas said and followed after Sawyer.
