Chapter 447: Scott Apartment

Tuesday, February 14th, Early Morning

The movement in the bed forced her awake; rolling on her back, she sat up. With her left hand, she rubbed her face and massaged her right shoulder. In the dark, her eyes scanned the room for what caused the movement that woke her up.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you," a female voice said in the dark.

The woman in the bed, Karen "Kay" Scott, looked to where the voice came from. "Are you heading to work?" Kay asked.

"Yes, have an early shift today," the female voice, belonging to Ivy Kowalski, said.

Kay stretched out and yawned, "You usually work mids," she said.

"I swapped for the shift today," Ivy said.

"Why?" Kay asked.

Ivy came over to the bed, half-dressed, and kneeled on the edge of the bed. Slowly, Ivy inched over to Kay as they were mere inches away from each other. "It's Valentine's Day," Ivy said.

"It is?" Kay asked.

"Yeah, it is. Don't you celebrate?" Ivy asked.

"I don't keep track," Kay said.

"You've never gone out on Valentine's Day?" Ivy asked.

"I've probably, I don't recall, plus it's early," Kay said.

"Well, Karen, I'll be the one taking you out tonight, so pick out something presentable," Ivy said and kissed Kay.

When they separated, Kay looked at Ivy. "What would you do if I didn't and wasn't when you got home?" she asked.

Ivy kissed Kay again. "In that case, I'll punish you," she said.

"Awe, don't tease," Kay said and kissed Ivy.

"Oh, it isn't a tease; it's a promise," Ivy said, "I have to go to work."

"Tease," Kay said as Ivy slid off the bed.

Ivy walked halfway across the room and grabbed her work shirt; she slipped it halfway on, then looked over her shoulder at Kay. Ivy gave Kay a wicked smile. "That's not a tease, but a preview," Ivy said.

"I can't wait," Kay said.

Ivy winked and finished getting dressed; Kay watched as Ivy left the bedroom. Kay laid back down and looked at the ceiling with a sigh. Kay put her arms behind her head and just daydreamed.

The ring of her smartphone broke her daydreams. Kay threw the covers off when she recognized the ring tone. Climbing out of bed, Kay pulled down her UCONN sweatshirt as she crossed into the kitchenette. Kay had a rule about no phones in her bedroom. Picking up the phone, she looked at the screen to confirm who was calling. Shaking her head, she picked up her phone.

"Tin hats our us," Kay said.

"Not funny, Kay," Clay Evans, Kay's agent that she got as part of a family deal, said.

"Well, you're the paranoid one," Kay said.

"This business is all about secrets at this time of year," Clay said.

"So, what's your point, Clay, it's early, and I have to rehab for my shoulder," Kay said.

"You're always rehabbing your shoulder," Clay said.

"As you know, as my agent, I nearly had my arm violently removed," Kay said.

"Yeah, well, you keep going, and your shoulder was fucked," Clay said.

"I did get the comeback player of the year," Kay said.

"That was then; this is now; what have you done for me lately, league," Clay said.

"I've been leading with points off the bench for the past couple of seasons," Kay said.

"On a shit team," Clay said.

"All three of your Scott clients are all on shit teams, as you put it," Kay said.

"I guess you've not followed the news," Clay said.

"Umm, Clay, you know I don't have a TV," Kay said.

"Your aunt signed with Connecticut," Clay said.

"I guess that's good for her, and Connecticut is an up-and-coming team," Kay said.

"With a new coach," Clay said.

"That's what I heard," Kay said.

"Yes, Paula McMichael," Clay said.

"I've heard she's a good coach, glad she's getting a chance to be a head coach," Kay said.

"I guess that's good to hear," Clay said.

"Yeah, well, it's Valentine's Day, and my girlfriend is taking me out tonight, so I have the stuff to do," Kay said.

"Well, how do you like Chicago?" Clay asked.

"It's okay, especially for someone who doesn't drive," Kay said.

"Okay, if I remember, you went to the University of Connecticut, right?" Clay asked.

"Yes, I went to UCONN and won the national title there my freshman year," Kay said.

"How did you like Connecticut?" Clay asked.

"The campus was nice but isolated," Kay said.

"Never mind the campus; how about the state?" Clay asked.

"I guess it's okay," Kay said.

"Don't your grandparents live there?" Clay asked.

"My grandma and yeah, her husband live in Greenwich, as do Angela and her daughter," Kay said, looking at her phone in confusion.

"That's good to know," Clay said.

"Clay, it's early, I just watched my girlfriend's hot ass walk out the door, and I'm in no mood for twenty questions. What is this all about?" Kay asked.

"Just getting a forecast," Clay said.

"A forecast for what, Clay?" Kay asked.

"There are trade talks between Connecticut and Chicago," Clay said.

"So?" Kay asked.

"You're the subject of the trade talks," Clay said.

"What? Clay, I have a life here, a girlfriend, she's not going to relocate to the backwaters of Connecticut, I'm blocking the trade," Kay said.

"Kay," Clay said.

"Clay, don't talk me out of it," Kay said.

"Kay," Clay said.

"What?" Kay asked.

"Do you want to stay in the league?" Clay asked.

"Yes," Kay said.

"You can't block the trade; you don't have that in your contract. Chicago was the only one that took a chance with you after your accident; now, they want to move on with someone younger. Connecticut wants you, and it's frankly your last chance," Clay said.

Kay sighed, "Why me?" she asked.

"You're cheap, available, and you have a history with their new key piece," Clay said.

"Clay, she's my aunt; of course, there's a relationship," Kay said.

"Yeah, so, this is just a warning; it's not a done deal," Clay said.

"What do I do?" Kay asked.

"Enjoy Valentine's Day and tell her about the trade," Clay said.

"Thanks, Clay," Kay said, ended the call, walked back to her bedroom, and fell on her bed. Kay buried her face in the pillow and started to cry.
