Chapter 450: WDM Field House

Tuesday, February 14th, Morning

The two young women walked into the Whitey Durham Memorial Field House. They looked around the walls at the banners, posters, and several retired jerseys hanging on the wall. Their heads looked around the vast room and found a group of people sitting on the bleachers.

The two young women shrugged; the taller one elbowed the shorter one; they looked at each other, and the taller one pointed to the group on the bleachers with her chin. The small one shrugged, and they nodded, starting towards the group on the bleachers.

The taller of the two young women, Sawyer Scott, was the first to step on the bleachers. The shorter young woman, Kendall "Keni" Stafford, followed behind and took a seat on the bleachers. Sawyer looked over the group and took a seat.

"What's up?" Dex Matthews, the largest, youngest, and the only guy in the group, asked.

"Just missing Gar," Sawyer said.

"Why are you missing him?" Wendy Kilpatrick asked, from her position, laying on the bleachers with her head on Dex's lap.

"Nah!" Sawyer said, "Nothing like you're thinking, just we've always hung out before school."

"Always?" Wendy asked.

"Yeah, since grade school," Sawyer said.

"We've been friends since we were three," Keni said.

"I just turned four," Sawyer said.

"So, what got into him?" Wendy asked.

"I think I know," Keni said.

"I don't know," Sawyer said.

Wendy shook her head. "It's usually that you two disagree," she said.

"Yeah, that's true," Dex said.

"We disagree sometimes," Sawyer said.

"I find that unlikely," Wendy said.

Someone walked across the gym and took a seat on the bleachers; it was Lydia Karen "LK" Scott.

"You didn't wait for me," LK said as she sat down.

"Sorry, LK," Keni said.

"We got called in by the cheer coach," Sawyer said.

LK shook her head, "Doesn't she know you wait for me every day?" she said.

"I mentioned that," Keni said.

"No, excuses," LK said, her voice agitated.

Sawyer walked down to her and ribbed her arms. "It's okay, LK," she said.

"You left me out there," LK said.

"We didn't want to," Sawyer said.

LK started to calm down and leaned against Sawyer. "When is Gareth coming back?" she asked.

"Next week," Sawyer said.

"I miss Gareth," LK said.

"So, do I," Sawyer said.

"LK," Wendy said.

"Yes, Wendy," LK said.

"How often do Sawyer and Keni disagree?" Wendy asked.

LK titled her head. "I believe they disagree three times," she said.

"Three times?" Wendy asked.

"Since they were three years old, they only disagreed three times," LK said.

"They disagreed with each other today," Wendy said.

"That's interesting," LK said.

Another young woman would come up to the bleachers. She sat down, placing her bag down next to her. "What does LK find interesting?" Alesha Gregg asked.

"That Sawyer and Keni only disagreed four times in their life so far," Wendy said.

"Wow, Sawyer, Keni, only disagreed four times," Alesha said, "Is that true?"

"I'm not sure if it is," Sawyer said.

"Never kept track," Keni said.

"So, what did they disagree about?" Alesha asked.

"Gareth and his meltdown," Wendy said.

"It's because Gareth has a crush on Sawyer," Alesha said.

"Whatever, Alesha," Sawyer said.

"Gareth was jealous of Jackin, and that's why he did it," Alesha said.

"No," Sawyer said.

"Honestly, why would he be jealous of Jackin?" Alesha asked.

"Yeah, there are better guys than Jackin," Wendy said and patted Dex's arm.

Sawyer leaned back and looked around the gym. She played with her nails and looked up to see the basketball jersey twenty-three retired, her uncle Nathan's jersey, LK's dad.

"LK, are you coming over tonight?" Sawyer asked.

"What is tonight?" LK asked.

"It's Valentine's Day, LK," Sawyer said.

LK nodded, "You're get-together," she said.

"Yeah, my Anti-Valentine's day thing," Sawyer said.

"I'll be there too," Keni said.

LK nodded, "But not Gareth," she said.

"He's grounded," Keni said.

"Because of the fight with Jackin which violated the student code of conduct policy for Tree Hill High School," LK said.

"Yeah, t's not a Sawyer Anti-Valentine's Day Party without Gareth," Keni said.

"Speaking of which, are you two coming?" Sawyer asked Dex and Wendy.

Dex shook his head, "No, my uncle and I have plans," he said.

"No, I have to be at the farm tonight," Wendy said.

"Okay," Sawyer said and looked to Alesha, "Do you have plans tonight?"

"I don't think so; why?" Alesha asked.

"Well, I was going to invite you to my party," Sawyer said.

"What does this entail?" Alesha asked.

"It's fun," Keni said.

"You come over my place; we take over the media room, watch movies, and eat junk food," Sawyer said, "The movies are usually not romance-themed."

Keni nodded, "Yeah, we usually have a theme that runs through the night," she said.

"Why do you do this?" Alesha asked.

"Our parents don't allow us to date until we're sixteen," Keni said.

"It's a whole family thing," Sawyer said.

"We could go out in a group, though," Keni said.

"Well, my sister suggested we just hang out and watch movies, and it grew from there," Sawyer said.

"What will happen when you turn sixteen?" Alesha asked.

"Why mess with tradition?" Sawyer asked.

"I'll have to ask my mom," Alesha said.

"That's all I ask," Sawyer said.

The group of friends all nodded and relaxed before school.
