Chapter 453: Upper East Side
Tuesday, February 14th, Morning
The sun poured through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Splayed out before her like a lover was the Upper East Side of Manhattan. From the halfway, she studied the light reflecting over the glass of the nearby buildings. Taking a deep breath, she headed over to the kitchenette.
Trinity "Trin" Adams started pulling stuff out of the cabinets, drawers, and refrigerator. Carefully, Trin made breakfast for her and her son. During her bouncing around, she turned on the coffee machine. After the frenetic action, Trin stood there for a moment, taking it all in.
Once her coffee finished, she grabbed her mug, mixed it to her liking, and took her first sip of the day. As the warm liquid warmed her body, she reached for her smartphone and checked her agenda for today. After a few moments and a couple more sips of coffee, she opened her text messenger.
Trin: Are you free tonight?
Zav: Yeah, I was just going to stay home and watch The Beatles: Get Back.
Trin: Want to hook up?
Zav: Are you serious?
Trin: Have you ever known me not to be serious?
Zav: No, but do you know what day it is?
Trin: Tuesday. No, what day is it?
Zav: Valentine's Day.
Trin: No shit!
Zav: Serious?
Trin: Works for me. 😉
Zav: Okay, what, where, and when?
Trin: I'll text you the details later.
Trin put her phone down and picked up a piece of her toast. After a quick bite, she looked towards the hallway. Trin sighed as she saw her eleven-year-old son, Wyatt Scott, standing there dressed in his school uniform.
"Morning," Trin said.
"Good morning, Mom," Wyatt said.
"Breakfast is ready," Trin said.
Wyatt nodded and walked over to the breakfast bar. He hopped onto one of the stools and attacked his breakfast. Trin looked at her son and smiled.
"Eat up; I'm taking you over to Madam Legrand's," Trin said.
"Again?" Wyatt asked.
"You know it's fashion week," Trin said.
Wyatt sighed, "Yes, I do," he said.
"Also, I'm working late again, so you'll probably be staying with Madam Legrand tonight," Trin said.
Wyatt nodded, "Okay, Mom," he said.
Trin finished her piece of toast and chased it down with her coffee. She looked over at her son and smiled. Wyatt has been her life since that snowy day when he was handed to her in the maternity room.
"Eat up, so you can pack a bag," Trin said.
Wyatt took a bite of his toast and nodded, "Okay, Mom," he said.
Trin grabbed another piece of toast. She watched as Wyatt finished his breakfast. As he was about to clean up his dishes, Trin stopped him.
"I'll handle the dishes; go pack a bag," Trin said.
"Why, Mom?" Wyatt asked.
"You might be staying at Madam Legrand's tonight," Trin said.
Wyatt nodded, "Yes, Mom," he said, got off the stool, and headed toward his room.
Trin finished her toast and coffee. Slowly, Trin collected the dirty breakfast dishes and washed them off. Once finished, Trin loaded them into the small dishwasher. Shaking her head, she started assembling her stuff together so she could get ready to leave.
Finally, Wyatt came out of the hall, carrying a backpack. Trin watched as Wyatt got his stuff together.
"Are you ready?" Trin asked.
Wyatt nodded, "Yes," he said.
Trin grabbed her stuff with her briefcase and draped her coat over her arm. Wyatt grabbed his stuff and followed Trin out to the hallway; mother and son walked through the hall to the Legrand's apartment door.
Trin took a breath and knocked on the door. The door opened after a few minutes, and Madam Clair Anne-Sophie Legrand stood in the doorway.
Looking at the woman standing in the door, Trin smiled. Even this early in the morning, Madam Legrand in just her housecoat looked more elegant than Trin. Madam Legrand looked at Trin with her blue eyes.
"Trinity, you're here early," Madam Legrand said.
"I wanted to get a jump on work today," Trin said.
Madam Legrand looked down at Wyatt. "Good morning, Wyatt," she said.
"Morning, Madam Legrand," Wyatt said.
"Please, come in; the girls are in the back," Madam Legrand said.
"Thank you, Madam Legrand," Wyatt said and wondered in the back.
Madam Legrand looked at Trin and nodded. "So, you have a hookup tonight?" she asked.
"What makes you say that?" Trin asked.
"Trinity, I know the blush of a woman in a new relationship," Madam Legrand said.
"I wouldn't exactly call it a relationship," Trin said.
"It's a relationship; be it a hookup relationship, it is one," Madam Legrand said.
Trin nodded, "Yeah, well, I don't know," she said.
"Trinity, you should be happy; you're young, unattached, and have the means, so enjoy," Madam Legrand said.
"I still have to worry about Wyatt," Trin said.
"Wyatt is a good boy, and you're doing a good job keeping him away from your fun," Madam Legrand said.
Trin nodded, "So, are you going to be able to take Wyatt to the tennis club?" she asked.
Madam Legrand nodded, "I will. Are you sure you want him to play a sport?" she asked.
"I want him to be involved in something active," Trin said.
Madam Legrand nodded and then laughed, "Well, he will have no trouble finding a partner for mixed doubles," she said.
"What do you mean?" Trin asked.
"Both Marguerite and Léa have both volunteered to be his partner," Madam Legrand said.
"I see; I'm glad the girls get along so much with Wyatt," Trin said.
"They seem to like him too much," Madam Legrand said.
"They're kids; it's just a harmless crush," Trin said.
"How old were you when you met Wyatt's father?" Madam Legrand asked.
"I was fourteen as well as was Wyatt's dad," Trin said.
"Two years older than Marguerite, and four years older than Léa. Wyatt is three years younger as well," Madam Legrand said.
"I'm aware of this," Trin said.
Madam Legrand nodded, "As long as you are," she said.
"What are you getting at, Madam Legrand?" Trin asked.
"Clair, please call me Clair, Trinity," Madam Legrand said.
"What are you getting at?" Trin asked.
"Let's hope history doesn't repeat itself," Madam Legrand said.
"That I can agree," Trin said.
Madam Legrand nodded, "In this, we can agree. Am I to be prepared to send Wyatt to school in the morning?" she said.
Trin's phone chimed; she checked it to see her car had arrived. "That will be a safe bet. I have to go; my car is here," Trin said.
"I will see you tomorrow. Have fun tonight," Madam Legrand said.
"Thank you," Trin said.
"You're welcome," Madam Legrand said.
Trin nodded and walked towards the elevator.
