Chapter 463: RBR

Tuesday, February 14th, Afternoon

The receptionist had just left her office. The girl dropped off a flower delivery. The woman behind the desk looked at the flowers; she picked them up and took a deep breath. The scent of her favorite flowers filled her nose and brought back memories. With a small smile, she put the flower on a credenza. Looking it over once more, she found a card was included.

She removed the card and looked it over. After a deep breath, Kayla opened the envelope and pulled out the card. Flipping it over, she read the note and smiled.

Kayla,

I'm sorry about tonight. I owe you big. Check your phone and choose what you want for next weekend.

Love,

Chris

Kayla put the small card back into the envelope and put it down by the flowers. She turned away and walked back behind her desk, retaking her seat. Kayla contoured her lips as she studied her smartphone sitting in the corner. Suddenly, she turned away, spinning her chair to look out the large industrial windows. Her office, along the executive row, overlooked the river.

After a long look, Kayla contoured her lips again. Her left arm started to reach out for the corner of her desk. While part of her brain wanted to see Christian's message, another part of her wanted to delay the disclosure. Make Christian suffer from curiosity, also anticipation for her. Knowing Christian, it was super thoughtful and maybe even sexy.

Kayla must have had a dumb smile on her face. Because when she heard someone at the door, she turned around. Haley stood in the doorway and just gave Kayla a look.

"What's that look for?" Kayla asked.

"Well, it looks like Chris sent you something to think about," Haley said.

"What? Oh! Just my favorite flowers," Kayla said.

Haley smiled, "That's a sweet thing to do on Valentine's Day," she said.

"Did Nathan send you flowers for Valentine's Day?" Kayla asked.

Haley laughed, "Of course," she said, drifted into the office over to the credenza, and looked at the flowers.

"What did he get you?" Kayla asked.

"Four dozen of the usual," Haley said.

"Four dozen?" Kayla asked.

"Yeah, one for the kids, one for the grandkids, and two for us," Haley said.

"Awe!" Kayla said.

"That's what he compromised on; one year, he bought a dozen for each year we were together," Haley said and laughed.

"What year did he do that?" Kayla asked.

"Let's just say I had no dining table, and that was after I gave some away," Haley said.

"Wow! I can see why he changed," Kayla said.

"Yeah," Haley said, laughed, and looked out the window. Haley got a distant look.

"Are you okay?" Kayla asked.

Haley nodded, "Yeah, just remembering, that's the problem with being old, you remember," she said.

Kayla nodded, "So, what's up, Haley?" she asked.

"Nordwind will be in New York City for the next few weeks," Haley said.

"I believe so. They are doing a few shows in the area, and they're staging from there," Kayla said.

"Yeah, they'll have a few days off, I believe," Haley said.

"Yeah, and Brooke invited them to my sister's show," Kayla said.

"Do you want to be there?" Haley asked.

"It's tomorrow, and I don't have a ticket," Kayla said.

"I'm sure if Chris wanted to, he could get you on a flight," Haley said.

"That would solve only half the issues," Kayla said.

"You don't think Brooke would get you in for your sister's big show?" Haley asked.

"I don't think so," Kayla said.

"Would you like to go?" Haley asked.

"Of course," Kayla said.

"Talk to Chris, and I'll see what I can do," Haley said.

"Thank you," Kayla said.

"You're welcome, now what you have to do," Haley said.

"What do I have to do?" Kayla asked.

"Kat wants to go to a show at a specific art gallery," Haley said.

"I have to get Kat access to the show?" Kayla asked.

"Yes," Haley said.

"What gallery?" Kayla asked.

"The Knight Gallery, she wants to see the Alex Grasland exhibit," Haley said.

"When's Keith getting back, he's so good at this," Kayla said.

"Keith's not here, so as he says, suck it up, buttercup," Haley said.

"Yeah," Kayla said and took notes.

"So, what's Chris have planned for tonight?" Haley asked.

'Something I'm pissed about," Kayla said.

"What?" Haley asked.

"The Fantasy Hall Valentine's Ball," Kayla said.

Haley looked at Kayla. "I thought those ended when your father-in-law got too sick to put them on," Haley said.

Kayla nodded, "It did about five years ago; two years ago, Barnett brought it back," she said.

"Maybe he wanted it to be eyes wide shut," Haley said.

"No, many people there are related," Kayla said.

"So, why did Barnett bring it back?" Haley asked.

"Carrie loved it, and since Connie's been how she is, well, Carrie's been depressed," Kayla said.

"So, it's a big brother looking after his sister," Haley said.

"It's sad," Kayla said.

"Connie hasn't changed?" Haley asked.

Kayla shook her head, "No, and doesn't look like it either," she said.

"What does Dean think?" Haley asked.

"Dean is lost in his tablet most of the time. Carrie won't end life support," Kayla said.

"Yeah," Haley said and looked back out the window, "Please make sure you get Kat to that show at the Knight Gallery."

"The Alex Grasland show at the Knight Gallery while they are in NYC," Kayla said.

"Yes," Haley said.

"I'll be right on it," Kayla said.

"Good," Haley said, turned away from the window, and left the office.

Kayla started to do a google search for the Knight Gallery NYC.
