Chapter 470: Club TRIC

Tuesday, February 14th, Evening

The music was bouncing off the ducts and steel beams. From her perch, she overlooked the whole place. The bar was three people deep, people were drinking at the tables, a few couples were playing pool, and people were dancing on the dance floor.

Chase nodded; it's shaping up to be a good night. Her hands rested on the two bare spots on the railing. No matter how many times they primed and painted. Chase nodded and kept her watch, a TRIC tradition.

Every night, every hour, every week had its tide, the ebb, and flood of business. TRIC has been stable enough and evolved enough to survive these changes. Chase smiled; she was glad that Lucas picked her for TRIC after Mags moved to run the studio. Nights like tonight gave Chase so much joy.

"Chase," a young waitress said, coming up the steps to the catwalk where Chase stood.

"Yes, Danna," Chase said.

"Some gut sent you over your favorite drink," Danna said.

"Oh yeah?" Chase asked.

"Yes," Danna said.

"Describe him," Chase said, with a nod looking across the club.

"Tall, broad, muscular," Danna said.

"Red hair?" Chase asked, still looking out across the club.

"Yeah, I guess it was kind of dark," Danna said.

Chase took the drink and sipped it. She smiled and nodded; her face went neutral. "Have you ever met my husband?" she asked, as the corners of her mouth started to twitch upwards.

"No, I don't think I've ever met Mister Burke," Danna said.

"Well, what did this man say when he ordered my drink?" Chase asked.

"Bring her the drink as she looks thirty on her perch," Danna said.

Chase chuckled, "Yeah, I guess I am," she said and took another sip of her drink.

"I'm not sure what you mean," Danna said.

"You just met my husband," Chase said.

"I did?" Danna asked.

"Yes, he was the one who ordered my drinks," Chase said.

"Oh," Danna said and paused, "Oh!"

Chase chuckled, "Don't worry about it; he does stuff like that all the time," she said.

"Okay," Danna said, puzzled.

"Don't worry about it, Danna," Chase said, "Go, we have thirsty patrons."

"Okay," Danna said.

"Anyways, my husband is coming up here," Chase said.

"Sure," Danna said and walked away, passing Huck as he came to stand next to Chase.

"Still doing this trick to the staff," Chase said.

"Only the new staff, I can't get away with it with the older staff," Huck said.

"That's a good thing, considering several knew us when we were in high school," Chase said.

"Yet, they could blackmail us," Huck said.

Chase playfully slapped Huck, "You're bad, and we weren't that bad in high school," she said.

"You might not have been," Huck said.

"What? I was the girl that was in the cheerleader brawl," Chase said.

"Yeah, but you didn't go viral," Huck said.

"Your Steve-O Prank?" Chase asked.

Huck chuckled, "So, worth the suspension," he said.

"Well, I had footage removed from Pornhub," Chase said.

"The up the skirt shots?" Huck asked.

"Yeah, when I was sixteen," Chase said and shook her head.

Huck rested his hand on hers. "We were a wild pair," he said.

"I was wild; you were a goofball," Chase said.

"Yes, I was a goofball, and I'm proud of it," Huck said.

"We agree; you're a goofball," Chase said.

"Yes, I'm a goofball," Huck said.

"But you're my goofball," Chase said.

Huck and Chase looked eyes and smiled at each other. They leaned into each other and kissed Chase, and Huck was always physically affectionate to each other. His was the reason people would comment why they had four children together. Once they separated, they looked into each other's eyes. Chase tilted her head.

"You have something you want to tell me," Chase said.

"What?" Huck asked.

"I can see it in your eyes," Chase said.

"It's nothing we can't talk about later," Huck said.

"Let's talk about it now," Chase said.

"You're working," Huck said.

"It's early," Chase said.

Huck sighed, "I was called into the Chief's Office with my captain," he said.

"What did you do?" Chase asked.

"Nothing, they wanted to talk to me about the captain's test," Huck said.

"Not that again," Chase said, "I thought you said you weren't taking it."

"I wasn't planning on it," Huck said.

"So, why did they even bring it up?" Chase asked.

"They sweetened the deal," Huck said.

"How did they do that?" Chase asked.

"If I get in the top four, the Rescue Company is mine," Huck said.

"Isn't that what you want?" Chase asked.

"Yes," Huck said.

"I've been on record saying the promotion won't hurt us, but also it's up to you," Chase said.

"I know," Huck said.

"So, again, why bring this up?" Chase asked.

"Because I'm thinking about doing it," Huck said.

"So, do it," Chase said.

"Are you sure?" Huck asked.

"You know where I stand; it's up to you now," Chase said.

"Yeah, just want your opinion," Huck said.

"Brett's going to be in college with a full ride. Of the rest of the kids, only PJ cares, and she'll want you to have the second horn," Chase said and giggled, "She'll want you to go all the way to being the chief."

"I don't think that's going to happen," Huck said.

"You'll never know," Chase said.

"Yeah, well, who knows," Huck said.

"So, what are you saying?" Huck asked.

"Shit or get off the pot, Huck," Chase said.

Huck laughed, "I knew I love you for a reason," he said.

"I know," Chase said.

They laughed and kissed again.
