Chapter Two

Arrival at Resort Town

[This chapter has a cameo from Superman and Lex Luthor.]

A gust of wind blew through the desert and clouds of dust rose into the air, made by a massive breeze as a loud whooshing noise sounded across the landscape.

Dozens of birds flew into the bright-blue daytime sky as the deep blue speck raced over the canyon's cliff-peaks and dashed madly through the desert; letting out a thrilled whoop of exuberance without a care in this bright blue world.

Sonic the Hedgehog, the world's fastest hero, ran as fast as his quick little legs could carry him. Nothing stood a chance against him; no rough terrain and no cacti could halt his movements. He leaped over a gap and spun in the air, then he landed on the other side and took off in a mad dash again.

He was looking forward to this vacation, getting plenty of rest and being with her the whole time without a worry in the world.

After defeating the dreaded Doctor Eggman again and after facing various other villains aside from the villainous scientist on multiple occasions, Sonic looked forward to some well-needed R and R, even if a crisis arose and the speedster had to put down the threat as quickly as possible.

"YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Sonic hollered.

He raced down a cliff, seeing the town in the distance; his awaited destination. The speedster smacked his lips; taking a minute to savor the thought of eating a yummy chili-dog. The place had an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet, just the restaurant with anything you wanted on the menu.

Chili-dogs were no exception to that menu; the hedgehog could never get enough of those.

Sonic looked at his watch and picked up speed, racing down the mountainside and zipping across the desert terrain, whizzing past rocks and cacti as fast as a lightning bolt.

A roadrunner ran alongside Sonic at one point, crowing at the speedster. Then it ran off, heading somewhere else. For a minute, the intrepid hedgehog was glad that he did not have to deal with any coyotes or any other wacky creatures that were eager to be as fast as him.

ZOOM! Sonic made it to the proximity of the city limits, stopping near the sign with the words that read; 'Welcome to Resort Town.'

Sonic leaned against the support beam, tapping his foot casually. He checked his watch and peered out at the horizon, keeping an eye out for her ride. He'd made it on time, a lot really could be done with someone like Sonic going on foot while she rode an automobile.

He didn't have to wait long, Sonic had slowed down at various points during the journey to let her ride catch up, then he raced on ahead towards the town. There was no harm in doing that.

Sonic spotted a rising dust trail in the distance, accompanied by the faint sound of car engines. A black speck appeared on the horizon, coming towards the town. A snarky grin took shape upon Sonic's face, no words could be expressed aloud. But the sentiment was obvious; 'Just made it.'

The limo rumbled closer and Sonic stepped aside, allowing it to pull up. The car doors unlocked and a window on the left rolled down, revealing the green-eyed face of the hedgehog's girlfriend Amy Rose. Sonic opened the door and offered his hand to the red dress wearing pink hedgehog.

"Welcome, Miss Rose." Sonic said courteously, "I hope we had a pleasant experience."

Amy took Sonic's hand and stepped out of the limo, carrying her suitcase and purse. "I did, Mr. Hedgehog." The speedster's girlfriend replied, "Lex was generous enough and didn't pull anything."

Sonic kissed Amy's hand and flashed a thumbs up towards the driver's front of the limo. "Not too bad, Mr. Luthor." The hedgehog commented.

The window rolled down, revealing the face of Lex Luthor himself. While Lex was... a controversial businessman, especially in regards to his relationship with a certain caped alien super-being, the man did have some good qualities and had often proven to be a trustworthy person.

"As promised, Mr. Hedgehog, my limo service is safe for use and your girlfriend was not harmed during the ride in any way, shape or form." Lex said, "You see? I can be trusted... for a price."

"Oh, I haven't given Lex some money yet!" Amy exclaimed.

She reached into her purse and pulled out nine quarters, Lex Luthor's limo service was said to cost $2.25. Luckily, Amy was good with her money and knew what she was doing. She gave Lex his payment.

"Your customer service is very valuable to Lexcorp and Lex Luthor's Limo Service." Lex said as he accepted Amy's payment, "Farewell, Sonic the Hedgehog. May you two have a pleasant vacation."

With that, the man closed the window and the limo drove off through the desert with Sonic and Amy waving farewell to Lex Luthor. However, they knew they would run into him again sometime down the line.

"Just like that, our first cameo of the story's out of the way." Sonic quipped, casually breaking the fourth wall.

"We live in quite the universe, don't we, Sonikku?" Amy asked dreamily.

"Heh, we sure do, Ames." Sonic nodded, "And the fact the limo driver didn't pull any tricks, it's almost as if a certain someone was keeping tabs on him the whole time and Lex boy knew he was going to be on to him."

"You got that right, fellow defender of justice."

Sonic and his pink girlfriend turned around in the direction of the voice, the sound of a cape flapping in the breeze perking their attention further. A minute later, the heroic Man of Steel and the last son of Krypton himself made his full appearance in his blue-red outfit with his bright red cape.

"Hey, Superman." Amy said in a bubbly manner.

"Yeah, how's it goin'?" Sonic quipped.

"You know me..." Superman replied, "Keeping an eye out for trouble, patrolling the skies, protecting people and keeping an eye on Luthor with his limo business if he pulls a fast one."

"Well, he didn't, that's what counts."

"Solar straight." Superman nodded, "I must be off now, someone made a diner next to a volcano that's now about to become active again for the first time in years. Who does that? You two take care of yourselves, I'll pick up the slack for the hedgehog of the wind."

Sonic grinned, "Thanks, Clark."

Amy gasped, "Clark? As in the Daily Globe reporter Clark Kent?"

"Yeah, glasses can't fool me. C'mon, Superman and Clark Kent share the same face."

"Quite an observant fellow, Sonic." The Man of Steel remarked casually, "But please don't speak of that to anybody, alright? Thank you, fellow hero."

With that, the Kryptonian hero known to some as Clark Kent flew off into the sky, setting out to help people and protect the innocent wherever he could. Sonic and Amy watched as the last son of Krypton vanished from sight, then they held hands and walked into Resort Town together, ready to finally start their well-deserved vacation...
