Chapter 487: Georgetown
Tuesday, February 14th, Late Evening
She stood out on the balcony, looking out upon the Georgetown night, leaning on the rail, breathing in the chilly air. She hugged herself and nodded. She pulled the oversized jacket close to her. Looking down, she smiled to see the patches on it. She turned around, opened the door, and stepped in with a final nod.
Closing the door behind her, she slipped off the jacket. Her husband's old jacket wasn't useful to him anymore, but she liked to wear it. Putting the jacket on the chain, she walked to her closet and opened it. Izzy slipped out of her blazer and hung it up. Nodding, she removed her skirt and hung it up as well. Eventually, she finished undressing; she found something to change into. Once settled into it, she smiled and looked at herself in the full-length mirror behind the door.
Izzy closed the closet doors and walked over to the bed. She turned down the bed and looked around. Izzy slipped into the bed, pulled the covers up to her waist, and leaned against the headboard. Reaching over, Izzy picked up her laptop and set it on the bed.
Opening one of the apps, she adjusted the screen until she liked how she looked in the camera. Izzy took a deep breath and adjusted her hair; she ran her hand over the necklace that Keith had given her.
Finally, the call popped up in the app, and Izzy answered it. Keith's tired face appeared on the screen, and his eyes moved up and down, then smiled slightly. Izzy smiled back at Keith.
"Hey, baby," Keith said in a tired voice.
"Hey, how are you?" Izzy asked.
"Tired, they've kept us busy," Keith said.
"The same here," Izzy said.
"Hopefully, soon, I'll be seeing your lovely eyes in person soon," Keith said.
Izzy sighed, "Soon, and I want more than looking into your eyes," she said.
"I noticed," Keith said.
"This old thing," Izzy said.
"Doesn't look that old," Keith said.
Izzy smiled, "I was wondering how long before you noticed," Izzy said.
Keith smiled, "Of course I noticed; that's my favorite style," he said.
Izzy smiled, more prominent, "Yes, yes it is," she said.
"Is that necklace the one I gave you for our fifth anniversary?" Keith asked.
"Of course," Izzy said.
Keith smiled, "How are you holding up?" he asked.
"Good and you?" Izzy asked and gave Keith a look.
"Not alone," Keith said.
"I see," Izzy said.
"Yeah, I missed seeing you," Keith said.
"I miss seeing you," Izzy said.
"What I really want is to hold you," Keith said.
"That's what I want," Izzy said.
Keith smiled and ran a hand through his hair. Izzy noted it had grown a bit long, and he'd probably be cutting it soon. She noticed some stress lines around Keith's eyes. His mouth twitched a bit like he was waiting to say something.
"What do you want to say?" Izzy asked.
"Well, I'm thinking about that crazy time when I flew up to New Haven," Keith said.
Izzy smiled, "That was a great time," she said.
"I have two things that come to mind. When I look at pictures of the kids, I know we had a great weekend," Keith said.
"The other is Nomi," Izzy said with a laugh.
"That was a great memento," Keith said.
"Yes, she's great; I think she's going to be my Scott," Izzy said.
"Why do you say that?" Keith asked.
"I just see it in her," Izzy said.
"Your mom has eyes on PJ and Nomi," Keith said.
"My mom has eyes on every girl in the family," Izzy said.
"Yeah, why is that?" Keith asked.
"She wants to give us all the same opportunity," Izzy said.
Keith nodded, "Nomi has a good head on her shoulder," he said.
Izzy smiled, "She reminds me of her grandma," she said.
"Which one?" Keith asked.
"If you don't know, well, I'm not going to tell," Izzy said.
"Okay," Keith said.
"You know, something," Izzy said.
"What?" Keith asked.
"You know, I love you," Izzy said.
"I do," Keith said, "and I love you."
"I was thinking about one of our trips," Izzy said.
"Which one?" Keith asked.
"There's one that really sticks out in my mind," Izzy said and discreetly pulled down her neckline slightly.
"Do tell," Keith said.
"Remember when we had your parents watch the kids, and I joined you on your trip to Europe for work," Izzy said.
"Yeah, Paris, then we took the train to London," Keith said.
"That night on the balcony overlooking the lights of Paris," Izzy said.
"Yeah, that was fun," Keith said.
"Cold, though," Izzy said.
Keith smiled, "But we kept each other warm that night," he said.
"That we did," Izzy said.
"Several fun nights in London as well," Keith said.
Izzy nodded, "We decided many things that week," she said.
"Yeah, you and I agreed you'll run for congress, and I'd stay in the guard," Keith said.
"I just want to be in your arms," Izzy said.
"I want that too," Keith said.
Izzy nodded, "Happy Valentine's Day, Babe," she said.
"Happy Valentine's Day," Keith said.
"The hour is almost over," Izzy said.
"If they don't extend us," Keith said.
"Think positive," Izzy said.
"I'll try my best," Keith said.
Izzy smiled and watched as Keith said goodbye. They blew each other a kiss and disconnected the call. Izzy closed her laptop and put the computer on her night table. She turned off the light and got comfortable in bed. Finally, she fell asleep.
