CHAPTER ONE

THE CONCEPT OF WAITING

824.M30

LOCHOS, OLYMPIA

Five men, Five bodies, Five assassins tried an attempt on his life, all but failed as their bodies were scattered all around. Perturabo was standing In the once dormitory of his sister, Calliphone, and outside he could still hear the cheering of the crowd.

The boy who was once discovered climbing the Phrygean cliffs was now a man. Dressed in Lochos finest plate Armor, his hammer, his shield, and his helmet that was shaped to that of an Iron skull. He was the mere spitting image of war. Outside, his war machines were prepared, his soldiers were standing at the ready, and all that was missing.

Was a single solitude of praise from the so-called family of his. He scowled one last time at the bodies, before walking outside to the balcony. The mere sight of his army was a pleasant reminder of his hard work he had been doing for years.

Even though Dammekos never actually praised his work, he didn't care. He only had done it for himself, and his eternal goal of reuniting with the one family member who actually cared about him.

The thought of his sister came rushing in like a thunderous storm. In all the years he felt the guiltiness for sending the one person, the one ally he had Into the unknown dangers of the world. The mere thought of finding her rotting body somewhere in the side of a clearing, or near a lake was more perplexing than ever.

Perturabo reached for his necklace, and as he looked deeply in the emerald, he noticed the slight stain of blood being under the gemstone. As he wiped it away, he looked deeply in it once more into the light of the stone, and as it shined. It indicated the slight heartbeat of its other bearer.

A small relief, and yet the feeling didn't go away, as he thought deeply of rebuilding the machine that teleported his sister away. But the notion of being followed by Dammekos' men, would be unwise, as he would always put men to spy on him.

He sighed 'What am I to do sister, as the years pass, I do little but uphold our promise' He thought, as his eyes narrowed 'But I will find you, no matter what It takes' He gripped the marble railings harder, as a small cracking sound was heard from under his hands.

As he ignored It, he refocused his attention on the years that have gone through, and the constant rejection of his work, by Dammekos. He remembered how he would call his designs, and drawings as "Follies" and nothing more. It angered him not to be appreciated of his work, or his talent.

He even remembered the day of how he had to impress the Tyrant-Prince Adophus of Kardia. From a painting, to an argument with a priest, and to wrestling with his so-called best warrior, and yet he had won. All that for the mere depiction of his talent, knowledge, and strength.

He was tired of being used as a glorified puppet, and now he had the chance of showing his true nature to the world. To a world filled with conspicuous tyrants whose only wish was to show their power to the weak. Not anymore, as of today his newest inventions were about to be used for only one singular purpose.

"War" Perturabo mumbled as a small grin appeared on his face, and his eyes blazed with fire as he looked to the horizon with a determined look. War, it was a word that made him feel comfortable, no matter how disturbing it would seem to others. They would discourage it as nothing more than a thought, and yet It was inevitable for them.

For the prospect of peace, there must be a unified faction ruled by one voice. Chaos must come first, before Order can be settled, and no matter how long it would take he will find Calliphone in the midst of this chaos. Even if it takes him his entire life, even if he has to wait for a millennia.

The Sun started to settle down behind the mountains, the sky turning to that of fire, and the Moon starting to take its place above. As the cheering continued, so did the march of his army, making its way outside the gates of Lochos. Behind him, he heard the doors to Calliphone's room open, as the sound of footsteps approaching him.

But the person who entered halted half away, as he saw the bodies, and a loud gasp came from behind him.

"By the Gods" Perturabo recognized the voice, as it belonged to the grumpiest of men.

"What has happened here?" said Miltiades, as he approached, he turned to look at him.

"Assassin's" He merely said, as he glanced one more time at the endless horizon. At the same time Miltiades stood beside him taking the pleasure of doing the same.

"You could have called the guards to come, and aid you" Miltiades said with his gruff of a voice.

"I didn't need the aid of no one, and the guards you talk about weren't there to begin with" Perturabo said with a hint of annoyance.

"What are you talking about" Miltiades turned, and pointed to the doors "They were there the whole time, you could-".

"No, they weren't" Perturabo Interrupted "The moment they tried to ambush me, the guards were gone. I have a suspicion as to who had bribed them to leave".

"Who" asked Miltiades, Perturabo remained silent as he continued to stare in the distance.

Miltiades sighed "Very well, keep your secrets boy, but I am here to tell you that we are In need to move on with our army".

"Very well, I'll join you soon enough" Perturabo said, as the old man marched towards the exit.

"Don't keep us waiting" the old man said one last time before he disappeared. Perturabo didn't spare a glance to him as he left, he continued watching the stars coming into view, and before long, he said "Wherever you are little sister, I am coming, hold on"

Pluto III

Five men, Five bodies, Five soldiers laying on the ground. Calliphone remembered fondly of her first kill, or first five kills as she would put it. She would have constant dreams about the five men who came clashing with one another, before realizing that they weren't alone.

She recalled how they turned to her, their eyes widened, their muskets at the ready, and the arrows that pierced through their bodies. That image would forever haunt her for eternity.

They were just men, young and old, wearing the uniforms of their factions. Some were a mixture of brown, and blue, while others wore red coats. But she will remember the horror in their eyes, the blood trailing from their mouths as their last breath was taken from them, before joining the afterlife.

That was one of many trials she had to go through, as a Hunter of Lady Artemis. For the past Eighteen years since she joined the Hunters, her life has changed since then. She could still remember her oath.

"I pledge myself to the Goddess Artemis. I turn my back on the company of men, accept eternal maidenhood, and join the hunt".

Those words were forever her eternal bond to the Hunters, as she had embarked on a new world, a world that she didn't belong to. Not a moment sooner when she had arrived in the camp, Lady Artemis had explained to her where she was, who they were, and the location they were in. To her surprise she didn't recognize or remember the name of the location they were, Arizona. A name she didn't recall from her books, or maps or even the gossip from the court of such a place.

That was until she mentioned her birthplace Lochos, and Olympia, and to her great discomfort, the Goddess of the Hunt looked at her with a huge amount of doubt. Her Lady told her that there is indeed a place called Olympia, but that was far away from where they were, and as to the name of Lochos. It was a word used to describe a band of warriors, who were trained in the art of ambush, and warfare.

It's then she realized that she wasn't on Olympia anymore, but somewhere else on a different planet. Her thoughts drifted to the necklace that was hanging around her neck, and the deep voice of her brother. Promising to find her no matter where she was.

Her thoughts however were interrupted when a clear voice was heard from behind her.

"May I sit with thee" said the gentle voice. As she turned to look at the person. She immediately recognized her as being the First Lieutenant of the Hunters, and the first person who ever shouted at her.

"Of course, Lieutenant" Calliphone said, as she scooped a bit further from the tree trunk she was sitting on. With one hand she lifted her blanket to her shoulders, and with the other she gripped her notebook while looking at her with amusement.

"What brings you here so far from your duties" The woman she was talking to was perhaps one of the most dangerous people in the world. Not only could she shoot an arrow from a far distance, but she was also Two Thousand years old.

The first time she had met her wasn't the greatest of impressions. Afterwards the constant glaring wouldn't stop, and lastly the overwhelming duty of doing chores. That is whenever she disobeyed the Lieutenant's orders. But after some time of getting to know each other, she had opened up towards her, as she would do to most of the newly Hunters.

Zoë Nightshade gave her an irritating look, as she sat beside her.

"My duty is to keep the Hunters at check, and make sure that each, and every one of thee is to be kept at bay" she said with a slight annoyance.

"Even to the new ones" Calliphone said with a smirk. Zoë rolled her eyes, but she noticed the small smile on her face.

"Even to the new ones" Zoë replied as she extended her hands to the campfire that was in front of them. Before turning to her, and looking at her hands.

"Reading again" Zoë asked. Callophone's cheeks reddened as she gripped her notebook harder.

"No" she replied weakly, which in return was met with a small chuckle from her Lieutenant.

"Learning a language is not a shame, even when thy improvement of learning more than one" Zoë said with a continuation of small laughter.

Calliphone blushed even more, as she remembered how she couldn't speak one of many languages that was used in this world. The first one was English, a weird, and a particular language. A language that needed to be learned if she had wished to communicate with the rest of the Hunters.

In the early years Lady Artemis was a great help on learning the basic principles of It. After that It was an easy way of making the words by herself, and for that she had to thank her brother for it. Every time she had to escape her captivity of staying with her boring teachers. She would always make her way to Perturabo's study room, where she knew that she could hide from anyone.

It was known that her brother's attic was a place of restriction, no one was to disturb him, when he was busy with his designs. Anyone, except her.

She smiled as she would remember the groaning of her brother, whenever she appeared In front of his door, and the small lecture that he would give her. Telling her that It was childish of her, for running away from her problems. Of course, that changed quickly when she pulled her secret weapon.

The puppy eyes would always work. It was a laughable situation when she could pull that kind of stunt on him. Knowing that Perturabo's stature was fierce, and known to all of Lochos.

Calliphone's smile faded, as she missed her interactions with her giant of a brother, and the moments they shared. When she grew bored, he would show her the mechanical birds he made. When she was tired, he would read her a book from his collection. An easy way for him to put her asleep. Though, to his irritation she would always remember the story, and the questions that were asked about it.

A small tear was making Its way down her cheek, and Zoë noticed it as her eyes widened.

"I-I apologize if I entered on thy personal matter" Calliphone wiped the tear away, as she shook her head slightly.

"No need to apologize, I-I thought back to the time with my brother" She said in a small whisper.

"The same brother who teleported you here" Asked Zoë, she nodded.

"Yes, the same, he was the only one who cared about my wellbeing"

"And the one who argued with thy father all the time" Zoë said as she was able to get Calliphone to smile, and laugh.

"Yes, He would always remark whenever our father wanted something to be done"

"And the promise he made to thee" Her smile faded again, as she reached her necklace.

"Yes, that too" Calliphone said with a hint of sadness, as she stared deeply at it.

Zoë was impressed by the design of the necklace, and the emerald that would glow every few seconds. At the beginning she wasn't sure what to make of Calliphone, a girl appearing out of the woods, and not knowing their language was but a high alert. But after her Lady had dimmed it worthy of being accepted as one of them, she didn't argue.

That didn't mean she was completely calm with the situation, as she would always stay on guard when she was around her. Sometimes, she would argue with her, especially in training.

But that changed one day. When she was passing by her tent, she heard sobbing, and the small mumble Inside Calliphone's tent. At first, she didn't want to interfere with someone else's life.

However, her duty to keep the Hunters at check was her first priority, and as she stepped inside, her eyes widened.

She thought back when she had seen Calliphone sleeping, and the tears that ran down from her closed eyes. As she shook her, she was able to wake her up, and ask her as to the reason as to why she was crying.

Calliphone had told her that It was one of many dreams, or visions she had for the past couple of days. That she could see certain scenes, such as fights, and arguments.

Zoë was hesitant to ask her as to where, and how would these scenes unfold. However, she knew that Calliphone would always change, or avert the topic into something else. She had done so for years, even averting to answer to Lady Artemis herself, which annoyed her. But If she wasn't ready to tell them, she knew better than to push things when It wasn't necessary.

She grabbed her hands, and said with a gentle voice.

"Do not worry, thy Brother Is going to come, and he will as he promised so".

Calliphone smiled, and nodded to her.

"I only wish, that he wouldn't take so long"

Zoë smiled.

"Be patient, for patience Is-" "One of many qualities that a Huntress needs to know before going into battle" Calliphone finished with a smirk.

"Show off" Zoë said, as they both giggled.

As they stopped, silence had fallen over them. But not an awkward one, but rather a comfortable one. As the campfire was still blazing, the gentle wind was hitting them on their faces. And as they both glanced above, they saw the stars shine, and the Moon looming over them. As they both thought at the same time how wonderful It would be, If they were amongst the stars.
