Hello just before the comments, this isn't a sponsor from the site but if you have an account please use it so that when I respond the comments in following chapters I can let you know to who I am replying, or maybe some kind of identifying mark or number before your review it gets tougher as the story grows and more guest accounts post reviews. Cheers
Guest A-Fan - While I do know that RvB is hardly touched in both the game, book and film series I can tell you with certainty that they will not be in this story mainly because I want it to be a proper serious mainline crossover and the Characters from Red v Blue just don't really fit into it. There are some crossover stories that do feature it though, I am pretty certain The Bitter Wars crossover does.
Guest - I do sort of agree but they are not causing harm with intent and also it is out of UNSC jurisdiction as well as the Republic not doing it not to mention that arresting the rebels that technically got rid of the separatists would not look good on the republic from a PR/face point of view.
Guest L - That is an area i hadn't actually thought of yet since I do want to include the siege of Mandalore (Drafts in progress) but it'd be very hard to work out if Ahsoka didn't leave or did and decided to join the UNSC instead plus that has been done and I don't want this story to seem to copied or mimicked of others either. 'I'll have to give it a real thought.
Guest - Yeah, that's a tricky subject and one I admit I have tried to avoid because I have no way of justifying it for either side, I can't even say that the Spartans were created as a defence against the covenant since they were "created" before the invasion of harvest in late 2525.
Guest - When I read through that scene with the Arbiter and Truth did enter my mind I won't deny.
Guest L - I definitely did think about that when writing which clones would join Fire squadron resolute, without any spoilers. It too is something I have yet to fully make a decision on but I believe they will become closer, all of them and we'll see. I don't care if this counts as a spoiler I am going to try and get Commander Fox offed if you want to look for loyalty in a clone look towards Rex or Colt. Originally I still wanted Order 66 to happen as it did but all of you have convinced me to change that, I'll twist it but you'll have to wait to see what happens.
Guest - Ok, kind of a case similar to fragging I guess you mean and also I have never actually seen Warhammer 40k apart from some ship specifications it is one of the few Sci-Fi universes i have not witnessed and explored.
Guest - Me too
Guest - Yes, I apologize for some of the spelling errors especially with Grievous and Ahsoka names as I was in a rush to get it out and stupidly did not think to check. I write with Grammarly on and it did not detect it so that is on me for not checking it as a whole.
Shaddowninja10 - Thanks, I Will.
Guest DCDGojira - Cheers, it was only a small illness.
Edeath756 - I do have a vague plan for how it will end regarding order 66, fall of the Republic, Extinction of the Jedi, etc. i don't want to give it away just yet though and also thank you, I wanted to create a story people actually wanted to read to the end.
Shadefyre - Thanks I agree as well that was part of my choice to write one and I have not watched Stargate in a very long time so if i did decide to do one I'd have to re-watch it a bunch, I mean I play, watch and read Halo and Star Wars material pretty much all the time and when I write these chapters I still have a second monitor with tabs open to check my research, especially since they are science fiction and I have to check my facts (MAC velocity and friction, Plasma containment, etc.)
LadyKDQ - Thanks for understanding
Guest - Still, the UNSC will never submit to a foreign rule, in this case, the Republic. The only reason the Alliance really exists is that despite their overwhelming military power, knowledge and capabilities there are millions of systems in the Galaxy (Star Wars) and thousands involved in the war.
AdmiralFolfe377 - Cheers, I'll look at those mistakes and any others I made when I do the re-writes but thanks for pointing them out, I am also a Halo nut and can't believe I made that error.
Guest DCDGojira - Neither can I as well
Shadowninja10 - Glad to hear that
Guest (The very long 3-split comment) - You are right in that perspective, it is strangely a lot harder to do the crossover the other way around and though there are a good couple ones that do it that way the rest is not usually a good read. After 10 years the Mantle of Responsibility is almost law to the UNSC and Swords of Sanghelios and no it isn't limited to the Milky Way but just to clear up something those that are responsible for what causes the intervention are not protected by the MOR.
It's a great concept but I don't want to intervene too much in the way of the force or its origin, seriously though it's a good idea.
MystiYew - I'll work on the quality and yeah I have now changed it, thanks for pointing it out I would have doubted the story if I had read it and seen a writing error like that. Also, I will put this in the re-write because it is important, it is the nearby Andromeda Galaxy I decided to put the star wars one in this time, putting a lot of risk in that. Also, don't forget it has been ten years of cooperation between the UNSC and Swords of Sanghelios and research into forerunner technology.
SilverExcel115 - I can't tell if that was sarcasm or not but I have tried to be as accurate as I can with weapon damage since plated metal wouldn't stand up to a 143 grain 7.62x51mm travelling at Mach 5 but I have no idea how the duranium and phrik frames of the different battle droids would hold up to such an impact.
Guest - Why is it upsetting, it is an improvement
Wow, so many of you are now leaving comments. It took up a page and a half before I even wrote the title, Amazing as well as the now 115+ reviews the story now has a combined 387 favourites/follows and over Thirty Three Thousand views. Absolutely incredible let's keep it up guys I know there are only around 40 Clone Wars/Halo crossovers in the labelled section but this one is now roughly 5/6th most popular.
Chapter Twelve: Military Intelligence
Still the height of night and the Rebellion forces as well as the guests of Resolute attempt to get what rest they can in what could barely be called a barracks but the team had clearly slept through and on worse at some point since they did not make any objections. Spartan Jack accompanied by Fives were awake and in the command centre with Ahsoka Tano and Steela going over what little plans and schematics they had for the Palace.
"What if we used ascension cables to get to this balcony? it has direct access to the throne room". Fives suggested, gesturing to the blue hologram they all stood around.
Steela pointed towards the balcony "Can't, there are sensors on the platform that alerts the security force, besides you'd still have to get past the electrified outer wall to get a clear shot at it". she said frustratedly
They went back and forth for nearly an hour attempting to formulate different plans for finding and interrogating the puppet king Rash on Grievous's location. Ahsoka had suggested that they find a way to take out the generator powering the palace's defences and scale the wall up to the south balcony instead but the insides were too complex to navigate without proper maps. Spartan Jack had briefly suggested a full-frontal assault to serve as a distraction for a smaller team to slip by and obtain a schematic through an information terminal. which seemed plausible.
Their analysis was interrupted in a flash though as a woman in what could be assumed was scouting attire ran into the room out of breath, grasping hold of the side of the wall for a brief second before using what little energy she had regained to approach Steela and Lux. "Saw was captured!". She instantly grabbed the attention of the entire room.
"How? did he leave the base?" Lux questioned
"I was scouting the streets and saw him climb the walls of the prison, he got in but then alarms went off and the energy shield over the roof activated," She told them
Steela throws her arms up, "That fool, he's trying to rescue Dendup on his own and got himself caught".
"Dendup, that's the king you mentioned. The one from before the separatist placed that puppet in power". Jack mentioned
Before anyone else spoke though, one of the rebels that were sitting at what looked like a makeshift radio monitor spoke up towards them. "Ma'am there was a public announcement made from the palace. It's about Saw and Dendub". He finished and the group gathered around as he played the public transmission. There was no hologram or video appearance, only the audio of the fake king's voice.
"My loyal citizens, I speak to you all this night with glorious news, one of the terrorists responsible for the recent attacks on our capital was captured trying to break free the treasonous and deceitful Dendup and will face the same punishment as the rest of these insurrectionists tomorrow morning when he is executed alongside Dendup". The voice ended.
There was a short-lived pause as some of the rough soldiers behind looked to each other, some looked down in defeat.
"I thought you were in charge here, didn't he follow your orders? you didn't order this did you?" Fives asked, very rarely did Fives disobey an order from a superior and couldn't fathom good, disciplined soldiers doing so, though these were not disciplined soldiers.
"No, I didn't order it and Saw listens to nobody but himself" She responded
"No doubt they'll be expecting you to try and rescue them". Jack told her as he took off his helmet and held it in his left hand against his hip.
"Saw couldn't get out of that place and they will have increased security after his little stunt, our only window is tomorrow, at the execution". Steela said, pinching her temple in frustration.
"In Public, there'll be civilians crowded there for sure, we'll need to be careful," Jack said pointing to the open square in front of the palace.
Steela gave a questioning glance followed vaguely by Lux, "We?" she asked
"Yes, you're going to rescue one of your friends and a former king, we're going for the current one, we work together on this, we both get what we want. Your comrades and our intel It's a Win-Win" Jack told them
She looked down for a second "Even if I wanted to do I don't have the luxury of turning down help"
Jack gave a stern smile "So what's your plan?" he asked her as she pulled a larger map of the square.
"We can blend in well enough with the crowd but your team stands out too much to remain undetected so I recommend that you use these alleyways along the main road to conceal your approach" Steela began motioning to the narrow pass that ran almost parallel to the main road which would be full of people the next day.
Ahsoka looked at Fives and walked forward
"What about the clones?, their armour is too conspicuous and even though they are part of this Team they are still Republic soldiers and the republic can't be known to have a presence here let alone funded a rebellion on Onderon," she told them.
Fives seemed to agree with Ahsoka "Sir what if we stayed with the ship and if things don't go to plan Cadmon can fly us in and we'll provide sniper support to cover your retreat".
Jack nodded slightly thinking about it for a brief moment "Good idea, hopefully, it won't come to that"
"Back to the plan, when they bring out Saw and Ramsis for execution we wait until their close enough then I'll eliminate the executioners and we use that moment to grab them and fall back, I'll leave getting Rash to you Spartan" Steela finished
"As you said we can use the path behind these buildings and follow it up to were it ends, once there we'll use our suits active camouflage and walk right onto the platform and once you take your shot we'll use the confusion to get the king and our intel" Jack replied
"It's settled then, it's not the best plan but we don't have much time to work with" Lux commented.
"You got that right, I'll inform the rest of my team," Spartan Jack said as he left the room followed by Fives.
Jack used his comm system to patch into the rest of the comms the squad had. "Alright Squad tomorrow morning these rebels are planning to rescue one of their captured soldiers and the former king of Onderon from public execution, we'll use this moment to capture Rash and interrogate him on Grievous's location, I've sent you a schematic of our path to follow" Jack gave them a minute to look over the plan back at the ship
Fives spoke a few seconds after "Kix, Jesse, we will be on the ship in case they need sniper support for a retreat, Cadmon recommend you focus repair efforts on the ships flight capabilities before weapons" he suggested to Lasky
"Why are we the only ones providing covering fire?" Jesse asked
"Commander Tano says the Republic's presence on Onderon can't be discovered so even if we need to provide fire it will be in prone positions with helmets off to minimise our signature". Fives replied
Cadmon got Jack's attention "Sir, I'm looking over the plans. Is it correct that there will be a large civilian presence?" the strain in his voice was clear.
"I don't like it any more than you Lasky but there should only be two shots to take down the executioners and they will only be using non-explosive ordinates on any other droids there. Keep your fingers off the trigger and double-check your targets though". Spartan Jack reminded all of them even though it wasn't them he was concerned about.
It was already early morning by the time that Cadmon had finished the makeshift repairs to the ship using the materials that they were provided with and though it was noticeably still damaged managed to fly and it headed to the rebels base. They all regrouped and went over the plan once more.
Firesquadren Resolute stood around the command centre as well as the freedom fighters taking part in the operation. Jun pulled up a large hologram on the floor display of the city square in front of the Palace where the execution would take place. It had all of the surrounding streets and buildings marked with their paths and locations highlighted.
Jun spoke up to all of them "We'll go over it once more, once Gerrera and her fighters are in position we use our armours concealment cloaking to go around the square emerging from this ally exit point, vault the stone railing and when the droids go down we move, I've already checked their stun grenades and they shouldn't affect our armour". Jun finished as Cadmon introduced the Condor to the map.
It appeared directly overhead "I'll be piloting the Condor but our cloaking tech can't stop the engines form producing noise so I'll have to keep at high enough altitude that they can't hear us but if I receive the go-ahead from Captain Jack I'll descend and allow Kix, Jesse and Fives to provide sniper support. I can't guarantee sustained cover though, with the materials I had to make repairs the shields are only at 50 percent capacity" Cadmon explained.
"Hopefully we won't need to call in air support, it's a last resort. Any questions?" Jack asked the room
Lux raised his arm "You've said that you require intelligence from Rash but you can't get him away from the droids without being hunted down so how are you going to get what you need?" He asked the Spartan
"I studied what I could of him earlier and considering how rarely he leaves the safety of that palace I doubt he'll care much about keeping Grievous's secrets when he has a weapon pointed at him," Jun told him
Lux didn't express any thought to it apart from slight confusion as to how they would be able to do what they were saying.
Briefing over they made their way out of the cave side command centre and made their way to the ground, with most of their faces known they would have to sneak into the city using a hidden tunnel that extended from a half kilometre from the city into an apartment within the city itself, one of the ones previously used by the loyalists. The Spartans and Rookie boarded the transport they were using to get to the tunnel entrance, a large rectangular speeder but with no engines being pulled along by two large creatures none of the UNSC and clone troops had seen before.
The clones and Cadmon boarded the Condor with the clones opening the armoury to retrieve an SRS90 Anti-Material rifle each with attached suppressor and enhanced optical scope to temporarily replace their DC-15A and DC-15S rifles which were not suitable for long-range accurate fire. As the other half of their team set off Cadmon fired up the bird. Its repairs had been a quick patch job but nevertheless, it was holding up well and he immediately activated the Condors active camouflage and gained a large amount of altitude before heading into the city.
They remained undetected as they passed over the walls and did not seem to attract any attention from ground forces either, once they reached and started circling overhead the square Fives contacted Jack from the Co-pilot seat. "Captain, we've reached the mission point, fuel is good and camouflage systems are fully operational. What's your position?". Fives asked Jack
Jack responded to him "Copy that Fives, we're emerging from the past now, we weren't spotted and the mission is still a go".
"Understood, we're awaiting your signal" Fives confirmed before ending the open comm.
In the building that used to be used for the loyalist's operations in the city, the group made their way out of the tunnel through a wooden hatch in the floor of the building. Jack and Ahsoka climbed up first and gave hand to the rest of them as they too emerged from the passage. Lux came last and made his way to the door of the building opening it partly. From the building, he could just make out the palace and the square at the end of the street. He quickly closed it.
Lux turned back to them "It's crowded but we should be able to make our way through, Captain use that door behind you, it leads directly into the ally you'll want to take to the edge of the square" He told the Spartan captain, he nodded thankfully as the Two Spartans and ODST made their way to the back and left at the same time as the other group did at the front.
Ahsoka and the rebels concealed with cloaks and partial civilian clothing made their way through the streets until they reached the beginning of the large gathering of citizens and carefully started to push their way through. Meanwhile, in the back streets behind the large buildings and in the shadows Captain Jack took point with Jun providing rear security and Corporal JD in the middle covering the cross-sections they came to and scanning the area for any hostile activity.
The three of them moved swiftly from cover to cover, always making sure they had every angle covered, their weapons would be aimed high and low making sure that there weren't any droids on the rooftops looking down or hiding in the backstreets of the city. Voices became louder and a source of light was becoming more clear. They made their way around one more corner and could see the large group of civilians to their left and the square to their right with the king Rash speaking to the people with Saw and Dendup behind him on their knees.
He took a bite of a piece of fruit and discarded it to a device that seemed to contain red beams that held in in place when it fell into it. It was a display of what was to happen as when Rash lifted his hand and dropped it the two executioner droids used their staffs to send energy directly into the beam and it cut the fruit in two. Looks of fear were spread across the people.
Jack pulled back "Activate cloaking and form a defensive prong manoeuvre when we vault onto the platform" Jack ordered as he and the other two activated their armour's active camouflage so they were completely hidden from view both the eye and any scanners the droids might use. Running right up to the stone railing they pushed and swung themselves over it onto the solid platform and managed to dash right past the droids that were also there.
When they got into position with Spartan Jack being right behind the king by a few meters the first captive, Dendup, had his head put through.
Rash rose his hand and Jack nor the others could see the other group in the large crowd and was wondering when they would engage. Just as he was about to drop his hand though from the crowd Steela and the other loyalists revealed themselves and with her macroscoped blaster rifle and the assistance of two soldiers holding her up she expertly dispatched the two droid guards that were about to kill Dendup.
That was it, in the chaos Jack ordered them to rid their camo and when they did the crowd gasped loudly more than when Steela fired on the droids as the three large armoured soldiers appeared out of thin air right behind the king. Spartan Jack pulled the king around facing him and using one hand pushed him to the floor. He looked towards Jun as the droids around them aimed their weapons at them. "Jun Globe shield!"
Jun instantly complied and deployed a small ball that landed on the ground and opened at the top, a large physical barrier in the form of a perfect share appeared right as the droids opened fire but their blaster fire was absorbed by the shield. "Shield isn't going to last forever, you've got maybe a minute before enough forces show up to take it down," Rookie told him.
The droids firing on them stopped though when the rebel forces threw stun grenades and disabled them. But more enemy divisions would be there soon.
Rash was on the floor pinned under Jacks arm with his hand up in defence sputtering questions angrily.
"Grievous shipped a small army of droids to you less than a week ago, tell me where he has gone now!" Jack quickly demanded from him.
"What, who are you, people?" he questioned, ignoring what the Spartan had demanded
Jack pulled out his sidearm and racked the top-loading a round into the chamber and pointed the barrel at his head. Rash's demeanour changed
"I don't know where he is I just took the droids and he left" He shouted trying to tell him anything
While he was interrogating Rash the loyalists had managed to free the prisoners and were about to make a successful getaway when one of their troops leading it was shot point-blank by a super battle droid and before they could raise their weapons to shoot back and avenge their fallen friend groups of more and more hostels emerged cutting off their escape and forcing them back. They were surrounded.
Jack meanwhile disabled the safety on his pistol with a loud click, "last chance if I don't hear something satisfactory in fifteen seconds those droids will be dragging a body out of here and it won't by any of ours" Jack warned gesturing to Jun and Rook who still had their weapons raised for when the shield ran out of energy.
"OK! OK! Wait, he didn't tell me where he went but as I was leaving I overheard him tell a droid to prep the ship's navigation to some shipyard then to the Florrum system!" Rash gave in.
Spartan Jack stood, dropping Rash to the ground hitting his head causing him to go into a semi-unconscious state.
He contacted Cadmon and the clones who were still in the hidden Condor with the waiting to provide covering sniper fire. "Cadmon, drop altitude and open the rear door, we're going to need that air cover, focus fire on the droids to the south of the complex to cover our escape". He ordered and then went back to focusing on his surroundings.
Soon after though their shield lost all power and fell, the rebels and fire squadron resolute stood together. Rash stood up and looked at them about to say something, most likely an order for the droids to fire on them but he didn't get to as in the sky above them decloaked a massive ship that was lowering in altitude as a rear door quickly opened and three troopers started opening fire on the droids.
When the projectiles hit the droids they instantly fell to the ground with sparks flying out of them as the tungsten rounds struck their metal exterior and internal workings, some of the massive 14.5×114mm rounds fired from the long-distance split of large pieces of the droids. They were fired on almost as soon as the first shots left the barrel of the clone's rifles and Cadmon struggled to avoid the fire and keep the ship steady enough for them to keep up the effective sniper fire.
Civilians had started to back away and ducked when they started shooting large rounds at the droids. That was their opening, Jack ordered them to move out using the crowd to conceal their movement as some of them started to revolt against the droid forces, eventually, they made it back to the apartment building with the tunnel and escaped back out.
Luckily Cadmon had managed to cloak the ship in time and flee the area before scrambled vulture droids were able to catch it. Fives walked through the hanger and into the co-pilot's seat putting his SRS90 to one side as he attempted to contact the other half of resolute.
Fives opened the comm through the ship's console "Captain, do you read me?" he asked
Jacks voice came through "Affirmative Fives, Good shooting back there" he thanked
"No problem sir, those rifles pack a punch for sure" Fives commented, giving his shoulder a slight rub after the continued fire of the large weapon.
Cadmon came over the conversation "Did you get the intel?" he asked
Jun activated his helmet's comm, "Affirmative, Grievous's is believed to be headed for the Florum system, we'll regroup back up at the rebels base and we'll make a report once we clear the planet's atmosphere". Jun told them
"Understood heading there now," Cadmon said as he increased the ship's speed and adjusted the heading.
Once they reached the base they deactivated their camouflage and set down on the rocky ground in front of the cliff that held the command centre within it. They waited for the others to trek their way back through the tunnel and make their way back to the base which happened quicker then they thought as they arrived a half-hour later and met up with them. The three soldiers jumped off of the beast drawn cart and Jack approached the other half of his team.
Captain Jack gave a quick handshake to Cadmon "Again, appreciate the air cover and I hope those rifles didn't break anything the recoil is something to get used to" He said eyeing Fives and the SRS90 next to him.
Jesse snickers "Don't worry about us Sir, we can handle them" He said confidently
Ahsoka and Steela came up to the group "Your reputation proceeds you Spartan, I'll admit it, I wasn't sure if we would have gotten out of there if it weren't for that sniper support, Once this is over I imagine the UNSC might find itself welcome here, despite their original refusal ". Steela thanked extending her hand to the Captain who gladly shook it.
Steela left and Ahsoka lowered her hood "Your team did a good job, I thought I almost had to step in. Do you know where you're going after this?" She asked
"No idea, I assume they'll send us after the General and his fleet" Jack replied
Ahoksas eyes widened "Just you seven, that's suicide!" she shouted
Jack just grinned "So is most of the other stuff we do, What about you once this insurrection is over?" He asked
"I don't know either, I'll find out eventually" She casually remarked
Jun tapped his shoulder from behind and needed his head towards the ship. "That's my cue, I'll see you around Ahsoka Tano," Jack said receiving a nod from her.
"May the force be with you Captain Jack," Ahsoka said as he started walking towards the ship
He turned his head back to her "And May the Mantle guide you, Commander Tano" Jack said sincerely as he boarded through the rear of the ship and closed the hatch.
A few around watched as the ship powered up and hastily took off from the ground and adjusted its heading to the sky, the engines bellowed as their speed increased in an instant and gained altitude very quickly engaging its clock just before disappearing from the sky altogether. Just like before they made it past the enemy fleet above the planet undetected and commenced a stealth slipspace jump to a nearby and uninhabited system.
When they did make their jump Cadmon scanned for any nearby life signs or ship signatures just be sure and after confirming the desolate system was in-fact empty they made their way to the middle of the ship and stood around the holotank, "Corsair, Contact the Infinity"
Rookie said as a large rectangular window manifested. "Attempting to contact INF-101, estimated time to contact... 5 seconds" Corsair said
Five seconds passed and the connection was established with the window changing form to a 3-dimensional view of the Infinity bridge with Commander Palma answering to them. "Spartan Jack A-127 reporting," he said with a salute to the Commander as did his team around him.
"Captain, what do you have to report?" She asked crisply
"At 01:00 hours we arrived at the Onderon System and descended to the planet undetected and attempted to land but were mistakenly attacked by the Republic backed rebels, we managed to deescalate the situation before any casualties accrued, Once we arrived at their command we received information on a Separatist puppet king who might have had intel on Grievous location and we formed a temporary Alliance with the loyalists to help them free two of theirs and at the same time extract any information relating to General Grievous location". Jack reported
Palmer looked over the mission report draft Jack had sent "Is this information correct?" She asked
"We can't tell if the source is reliable but it is likely to be accurate" Jun told her
Palmer put down the pad she was reading "Good work Resolute"
Fives picked up his helmet from the chair behind "Commander, are our orders to pursue?"
He received a quick response "No, the 40th assault fleet is estimated to arrive in the galaxy in two days they'll now be hunting Grievous, you are to return to Infinity at Lucazec for debriefing and your new mission assignment" She finished
Jack nodded in acknowledgement "Understood, we'll rendezvous with the Infinity" Jack said as the connection was terminated.
"Corsair, plot a slipspace jump to the Lucazec system and notify me before we come out of slipspace, Rest of you get some rest, we don't know what our next mission is and we might not get any for a while".
Corsair bleeped in acknowledgement as the team retired to their quarters.
Overall the Journey to Infinity was mostly uneventful and took several hours which the team took to get some sleep. When they were five minutes out from emerging Corsair awoke them and they put on and checked their armour before convening in the cockpit with Kix, Rookie and Jesse in the main room next to the armoury mounts on the walls.
The ships AI gave the five-second countdown as they started to come out of slipspace and they emerged instantly decloaked. In-front of them by several thousand metres was the combined 7th and 11th flees above the planet as well as many Super Mac platform defences but what stood out most was the ship in the centre front of the formation, the Infinity. Jesse and Kix walked up to the cockpit entrance and were visibly shocked seeing the massive Supercarrier. "Look at the size of that thing," Fives said in awe.
Around them, the other troopers grinned "Yeah, she's one of the toughest ships in the navy"
Fives spoke as he looked at his brothers "Only the second time I've seen it, still doesn't get old"
Jack transmitted the landing codes to the ship and was directed to one of the hangers-on the port side. Once they arrived they were greeted in the hanger by Captain Ajex. "Resolute, welcome to and in some cases back to the Infinity, Admiral Lasky is in a meeting with the joint chiefs so I'll be debriefing you" Ajex finished as he walked towards one of the hangers elevator exits.
They followed him onto it and it quickly went downwards with them passing several decks before it stopped off at one of the many interior tram systems across the Infinity used for travel across the nearly 6-kilometre long vessel. The journey was short and they arrived at the Science deck as Ajex stepped off followed by the others in slight confusion.
Jun voiced his confusion "Sir, I thought we were being debriefed, why are we on the science deck?" He asked as they walked past several labs and science staff wearing white lab coats.
"There's a debriefing room on the other side of the development department and you'll see why after" Ajex responded. Jack just shrugged at Jun
After a few minutes of walking past several sealed laboratories and personnel, they reached a set of double doors that opened vertically with a hydraulic wheeze. Inside it was a large circular room almost like a theatre with the centre containing a very large holotank. "Gather round, Roland bring up file Romeo-Echo 11732," Ajex said as Roland figure appeared on the and pulled up a series of images and documents.
"Once you reported the possible location of the Separatist fleet and General the necessary information was relayed to the 40th assault fleet who have been tasked with scouting and then assaulting them once they've assessed the risk" Alex briefed as to the details
Holo images of the fleet schematics appeared. The 40th assault fleet consisted of five Ragnarök-class Dreadnaughts, several Andraste-class Strike Cruisers serving as the escort and two newly developed prototype Winter-Class supercarriers that were designed to replace the partially outdated Thermopylae-class Supercarriers, they held double the amount of aircraft due to extra hangers and better storage bays. Dozens of smaller corvettes, destroyers and frigates also accompanied the fleet to deal with smaller craft as the massive warships did not have great manoeuvrability or speed. The lead ship though was much more magnificent.
Completed in 2567 the Infinity-class Supercarrier UNSC Eternity was the sister ship for the Infinity and was fitted more towards battle then exploration with more space devoted to MAC and Missle storage then labs. It was still a ship to fear.
Fives looked at the fleet then at Ajex "So if the 40th is going after the fleet, whats our mission Sir? Some kind of infiltration on a Sepe world?" he asked the Captain
Captain snickers slightly "Not a bad guess trooper you're pretty close, your team has been assigned to clear the way for a ground invasion on the North of Kessel, Illegal slave labour is being used for spice mining and the head of it is believed to be a King Yaruba but your mission is not an assassination," He said as he pulled up more details
"While there is only a small fleet protecting the planet made up of mostly stolen and older vessels on the ground there is a sensor array that monitors all sublight and FTL travel within the region, you'll be inserted two-point-five clicks away from the facility from where you'll bypass security eliminate them if need be and scramble the array to show false readings". Ajex explained
Kix lifted his hand forward partly "Sir if the fleet protecting the planet is outmatched then why can't we assault it even if they know where coming" he asked
Roland answered "Because there's a strong possibility that if they know we are going to invade they'll use the slaves as human shields, this way we get the drop on them and the risk of innocent casualties is greatly reduced"
"How exactly are we going to scramble their systems, sir? we aren't technicians or engineers" Cadmon brought up
"You won't be doing it," Ajex said as Rolands yellow figure disappeared and behind them, a still Promethean soldier awoke and had a dark yellow glow running across its components its limbs were a dark alloy material but looked like a human prosthetic. All of them were startled when it moved towards them a couple even instinctively moving their hands to their holsters until Roland's voice was heard from it.
"I'll be coming along for this mission, well a part of me anyway, Can't leave Infinity empty," He said his voice sounding almost more human.
"So Roland is coming with us" Jack summarised
"Unless you know anybody else that can hack into a completely alien system in a split second," Ajex remarked. "You'll enter the system and atmosphere in a modified prowler and commence an Orbital Drop to the landing zone, any questions" Ajex ordered
It took the clones a minute "Err, Orbital Drop, Sir?" Jesse asked hoping in the back of his mind it was a phrase or something.
Ajex pulled up footage of a SOEIV launch and landing as well as the ODST's inside leaping out and immediately firing on their enemy, "Feet First into Hell trooper" the Captain said with a smirk. With the Jesse, Kix and Fives looking at each other concerned
"When do we leave, Sir?" Rookie asked
"ETA to Prowler launch is 12 hours, for now though follow me," Captain Ajex said as he walked back towards the exit to the science labs. As they left they turned left instead of following the path back and they were led to a large room with open circular holes in the floor. "Research and Development started working on these before your team existed and now they're ready". He said as a Scientist in the room lowered a lever at the station he was at and the gaps in the floor were replaced by eight slowly rising panels that had Armour mounts on them.
They fully rose and each stand had a set of armour on them with each of their names and number engraved in white lettering on the left side and on the right, they all had a logo of a white eagle striking down a black hawk with its talons. The colours were all the same and hadn't been altered.
"Say hello to your new armour," The scientist said as he lowered the cylindrical glass surrounding the suits. "Shielding is the same as your current armour Spartans but now all of you have it, furthermore they are all equipped with micro rocket booster packs with 10 seconds of rechargeable energy, active camouflage and last but not least they have a locking mechanism designed to reduce kinetic energy from the incoming force". He finished
In the middle of all the armour stands though was metal and lit up weapons wall. "Armour isn't all either, these are top of the line experimental Hardlight weapons evolved from forerunner rifles. Right now we have four classes for your own choosing. First is the HLR, single fire semi-automatic rifle, effective range of 75 meters and an 18 round capacity. Secondly, is the SRR assault rifle, fully and semi-automatic fire, short to medium range and 36 round non-extended magazine capacity. Next is the CRW Bat Shotgun, 8 round capacity best effective range is up close and personal, Finally is the SPMA sidearm with attached sound suppressor, 12 round capacity best at short range with the suppressor" He closed
they all walked up to the armour. "They look incredible but too undistinguished, is personalisation permitted, Sir?" Fives aksed
"Under normal Uniform standards, no, but since this is a prototype project it doesn't fall under those codes so feel free to as long as it doesn't interfere with the systems or your mission efficiency". Ajex replied, "You've got twelve hours to get used to that armour soldiers, I'd head down to S-deck and get some practice, you too Roland, how longs it been since you fired a weapon anyway, after that the mission is a go, dismissed".
Well, so ends another chapter after nearly a month so sorry for those of you that really love the story and want it to come out faster trust me I have dozens of stories followed but they never get updated sadly so I'll make sure I don't do that to you guys. Anyway, what do you guys think of Fire Squad Resolute too much fan service of a brilliant combination?
Make sure you read the notices and notes though because some of the reviews questions and queries I have answered in them like the explanation for Plasma in the beginning which you can bet I'll change in the re-write.
If anybody wants to do concept art on the new team and their armour in the next chapter feel free to, don't forget I don't own Halo or Star wars so what am I gonna do, sue you? Also, the final time I am letting you guys know the next chapter to be released will be the re-write for the first and maybe second chapter and chapter 13 comes out after those are published.
Let me know if I made any obvious mistakes or errors
