And Then There Was Light
It was all over.
All his hard effort, all his work, all gone.
Jet lay there on the stone, feeling his life ebb out of him painstakingly slowly. Smellerbee sobbed, and Longshot...
"Jet..." Smellerbee cried some more. "Please, live! You can get through this!"
Jet gave her a weak smile. Didn't she understand? Didn't she realize? It was over. He had put his best into it and in the end it had never been enough.
Maybe he could live through this. Maybe he had the will to live.
But he was too tired, too much in pain.
The last thing he saw before drifting off into the comforting blackness of the dreamworld was an angel, clad in brown with shaggy dark brown hair and golden eyes and that scar...
"Lee..." Jet whispered.
"Zuko, we must go."
The banished prince had hesitated outside the entrance to the large open room.
"I...can't." Zuko whispered, eyes fixated on the dying boy in the middle of the room. "I just can't."
Iroh gave him a pained look.
"Zuko, please." He pleaded. Zuko held up a hand.
"Go. I'll catch up with you." He ordered. And then he softened. "Please, uncle. This is something I just gotta do."
Iroh nearly sighed. Ah. Young love.
"Alright. One minute." And he went ahead.
Meanwhile, Zuko stepped inside the room.
Both Smellerbee and Longshot noticed him but none said a word. He walked closer and closer and saw that Smellerbee was clutching Jet to herself. Or rather, Jet's unconscious body.
Without a word, Zuko reached out and Smellerbee gently shifted Jet into his arms, understanding the feelings Zuko had for Jet - and the feelings Jet had had for Zuko but had given up on because he thought they were unrequited.
"Jet..." Zuko whispered. "Can you hear me? Don't give up."
Jet's eyes opened a crack.
Zuko held him closer.
Soft kisses were pressed to his hair, to his forehead, to his face.
"Lee..."
Zuko placed a soft kiss on Jet's lips.
"Don't die." He whispered, which was three-quarters to "I love you" when you were both warriors.
And then he was gone.
Jet found a new will to live.
He would live for his love, for the mysterious scarred Lee.
He would live for the man he loved.
Jet smiled and his eyes opened wide. Smellerbee was now crying tears of joy and even Longshot had a mild smile on his face.
And then there was light.
AN: I hate, hate, HATE Katara in this episode. Also, for those of you who read "I Plead Insanity", this is the same fic, however, I decided to just rewrite moments in each episode. These are not linked in any way.
Please review! (And write some too!)
