DISCLAIMER! (I DO NOT OWN BLUE BLOODS)

A story version of Joe Hill's life if his father had been around.

Joseph; Joe Hill - Joe; Joe Reagan.

"Dad, we can't be late!" thirteen year old Joseph Hill Reagan complained. His father Joe took his eyes off the road, looking at his son.

"We won't, we still have another hour and a half to get you on your bus, grandpa and pops just wanted to say bye, you're going to camp for three weeks, that's a big deal!" Joe ruffled his son's hair.

"Ahh." Joseph complained, fixing his hair back, when the two arrived at Frank's home, Joseph was more observant than ever, noticing the same amount of cars present for family dinner but it was a friday afternoon. "Everyone is here?" Joseph asked.

"Okay I lied." He put the car in park once again taking a look over at his son. "Everyone wanted to say goodbye."

"You guys act like I'm moving across the country!" Joe laughed at his kids words.

"We all just love you and we've never been apart from you for so long or so far a distance, Connecticut is a long drive." Joseph's facial expressions changed, he looked down about something. "What's wrong kid."

"I wish mom cared." Joseph said sadly not wanting to look at his father while tears welled in his eyes.

"Kid, mom does care about you… she's just going through things." Joe did his best to categorize Joseph's mother in a nice way, in reality Paula was a terrible mother, who puts everything of her own selfishness first besides her own son, last time Joe heard from her was three years ago when she was moving to Europe.

"Right."

"Listen let's go inside and have a great time." He tried to perk his son up. "We only have an hour left together for the next month."

"You're right dad." The two made their way into the home spotting a face they haven't seen in four months.

"Uncle Jamie!" Joseph smiled running to his uncle.

"How's it going kid?" Jamie smiled, giving him a hug. "Look at you getting bigger." Jamie laughed.

"I've missed you uncle Jamie! what are you doing home from college so early!?"

"Well, I finished my exams early. I had to come all the way back to New York to see you off."

"I've missed you brother." Joe walked up to Jamie giving him a big hug. Joseph stood there watching the two, he'd always admired their relationship, being an only child and all, the closest thing he has to a sibling is twelve year old Nikki.

"Are you ready for camp?" Frank asked. Joe nodded, just like his father he'd always put on a brave face, he definitely is nervous.

"Now that you're leaving can I borrow your Nintendo?" twelve year old Nikki chimed in. Joseph looked at her like she was completely crazy.

"Keep dreaming." He replied back to her, the two of them made their way into the living room to hang out with eight year old Jack and six year old Sean. They all enjoyed lunch later, all Reagan siblings hanging out on the back patio.

"You're gonna miss him." Danny observed that worried father look in Joe's eyes.

"Of course." Joe replied, although the worried look had not disappeared from Joe's face.

"You can talk to us." Jamie all too well knows the look when Joe is thinking about something serious.

"Just nervous for my first day as a homicide detective tomorrow." Joe lied, definitely catching Jamie's curiosity, he was the only sibling that hadn't learned too much about Joe's abrupt transfer.

"Why'd you switch anyway." The guilt ate at him even more than when his father, Danny and Erin had asked, he hated lying, especially to Jamie.

"Warrant squad just wasn't for me." Joe replied withholding his true reasons. He looked at his watch. "I have to take Joe." He stood up, "I'll see you guys?" They all nodded saying goodbye to their brother and nephew. Making their way to the meeting and drop off area for the kids, Joe grabbed his son's duffle bag carrying all he will need for the next three weeks.

"Everyone is here it looks like." Joe kneeled down to his son's height.

"I love you kiddo." Joseph rolled his eyes at being called kiddo, Joe knows how much he hates it but still can't resist it. "Alright, I'm going to miss you and when you get back i'll have us two Mets tickets." Joseph's eyes beamed.

"No way dad! you're lying!" Joe shook his head no, he was very serious. "I can't wait to come back then, i'll see you in three weeks." Joseph hugged his father Joe made sure the hug lasted a little longer than they usually do.

"Love you kid, see you in three weeks." Joe watched him load onto the bus with the rest of the campers, he and others. Stayed watching the bus disappearing into the distance.

When Joe arrived back to his apartment his phone was filled with missed calls, he had been ignoring all day, scrolling through the list another call interrupted him, he growled extremely irritated.

"Yes Anderson." Joe's tone was obvious, he was annoyed.

"Why have you been ignoring us? we were worried!" Anderson replied. Joe rolled his eyes, the FBI is a federal unit and yet they need his help in taking down corrupt cops.

"Like I told you two weeks ago… I'm out." They seemed to not take his no for an answer.

"I already transferred, ask Gonzalez." Joe was just about to hang up.

"Lydia is dead." Anderson deadpanned. definitely catching all of Joe's attention.

"No… she's.. she's not-" denial definitely speaking for him.

"She was killed two hours ago... A bust gone bad."

"Where was Sonny and Cameia." Joe gritted his teeth.

"Where do you think?" She replied, Joe sunk into his couch.

"They said she was ambushed, they killed the perp." Joe closed his eyes, not believing it. Joe shook his head.

"I'm sorry Lydia is dead but… I'm still out." Anderson couldn't believe it, a cop was killed in cold blood and Joe seemed to not care.

"You're kidding." Anderson fumed.

"I'm not, we've been at this for five months and we've gotten no closer to catching any of them, but in the meantime they've grown suspicious of Lydia and I." Joe tried to calm down. "I have a son and I'm the only parent he has." Anderson stayed quiet for a while.

"I understand you have a son but Lydia had a family too, so did the countless others Sonny and his gang of thieves and murders killed,." She reasoned with him. "Thanks for your help Joe, she ended the call before he could get a word in, Joe leaned further into the couch, his thoughts eating him alive, he took an oath to protect this city. He wanted Sonny and Camia to pay for what they did, but at what cost? there's no evidence, they clean up after themselves leaving no clues on the scene. He knows he's doing the right thing by getting out of the mess for him and his son's sake but what would his father think of his actions? a cop died and Joe was sure he knows who the killers are but he's not doing a damn thing.

Joe had fallen asleep, he woke up to knocks at his door, scaring him half to death, Angela was in Chicago for work plus she has a house key considering she lives with him and Joe Jr, he grabbed his service weapon off the coffee table slowing creeping to the door, looking at the peephole eyeing his two brothers. he sighed opening the door.

"What the Joe!?, we've called you a bunch!" Danny skipped formula greetings.

"I just woke up." Joe replied upset, his off duty gun still in hand.

"You sleep with your gun." Jamie observed the gun in his hand. Joe snapped back into reality placing the weapon on the counter. "Are you good?" Jamie worried.

"I'm fine kid." Joe answered tensely.

"We'll sure you've heard." Danny looked at him, Joe immediately understanding what she was talking about.

"Lydia." Joe said her name gathering a knot in the back of his throat.

"I'm sorry for your loss."

"We were worried you weren't answering so we came over to check in on you." Danny sympathized.

"Thank you, I mean that." He hugged his brothers.

ONE WEEK LATER

Joe's been pretty busy with work at his new precinct, his partner on the other hand, was a veteran homicide detective, unlike Joe being a rookie homicide detective. Joe tried to keep his and his partner's relationship strictly professional not speaking of anything remotely close to personal, Joe wasn't sure of his loyalties, for all he knew he could be in the templar he couldn't risk anything slipping out especially without his own family knowing. Joe grabbed their radios and made their way to their patrol cars.

"Wanna drive?" Capaldi offered in a whisper noticing Joe on the phone.

"You go ahead." Joe tossed him the keys, returning to his phone call. "Okay kid, I'm so happy you're having fun, I'll see you in two weeks, I love you." Joe smiled, hanging up the phone. While in the car Joe removed his hat exposing the phone inside his cap showing his son's 8th grade school picture.

"You definitely have a clone," Joe looked up confused, seeing Capaldi's eyes on his hat.

"Oh yeah." Joe laughed, placing his hat back on his head. "That kid is my world."

"I bet, my wife is pregnant so you could imagine my nerves," Joe laughed thinking about the time he first found out he was going to be a father.

"It's the greatest thing in the world, no words can explain." Joe responded.

"So Reagan, I've been meaning to ask? why homicide?" he was well knowledged in the fact of Joe's transfer.

"My brother is a homicide detective, i know there's no beauty to it, but I've definitely been drawn into it for a while." Joe honesty admitted. "What about you?"

"Honestly, I was promoted to detective and got my choice of assignment, this was all that really interested me." Joe nodded. "You're not much of a talker are you?" Joe looked over at him. "Listen, we're out here together, whether it's for 6 hours or 12, I just want to let you know I've got you back, regardless of what happens." His words seem very genuine.

"Same here." They nodded in agreeance, a radio call came up on the radio the two hurried to their next scene.

Two days later.

Another one of Joe's excruciatingly long tours finally ended he was unlocking his front door sensing a presence behind him, he turned around seeing the love of his life.

"Babe you scared the hell out of me." Joe spoke she had no idea how close she came to getting shot.

"Hey sorry I know I said I wasn't going to be back until tomorrow but I had to surprise you." She held up Joe's favorite food. She smiled at him and he returned it. "Sorry I didn't see Joe off, I miss him already." She adored his son almost as much as he did himself.

"It's alright he understood." He grabbed her hand and brought her closer. "Only thing i can think of his having 'i miss you sex." He said, smiling and kissing her passionately, the two made their way into the apartment, he gently fell onto the couch with Joe on top of her kissing her neck, Joe's phone was buzzing obnoxiously, killing the mood. Angela broke the kiss.

"You should get that and while you do, I'll be in the shower, long flight. We'll pick this up when I'm out." She smirked walking off disappearing into the bedroom. Joe finally had enough picking up his phone seeing a phone number he doesn't recognize with missing calls and now an income call from this exact number.

"Hello?" Joe answered the phone completely annoyed.

"It's about time Mr. Reagan." A robot voice spoke to him, the person had to be using a voice jammer.

"Who is this?" Joe heart skipped a few beats.

"That's not for you to worry about right now okay?" The voice demanded. "Your going to meet me at this real address-"

"Why the hell would I meet you anywhere?" Joe spat, he couldn't believe he was playing alone with this madness!

"I thought you would say that." Joe's phone vibrated. "You might want to take a look at that." Joe removed the phone from his ear checking the notification. His face went blank, his skin cold, his heart nearly stopped all in moments of seeing a photo of his son playing at camp.
