Chapter 520: Raven Hill
Monday, February 19th, Afternoon
The doorbell rang, and he walked, better described as hobbled, towards the front door. Opening the door, he smiled at the blonde woman, about his age, standing at the door. She looked to be in good shape, dressed for business, and carried her briefcase. They looked at each other, and the blonde removed her sunglasses.
"Hello, Nathan," Bevin Mirskey said.
"Bevin," Nathan Scott said.
"So, what's got your heckles so up that you dragged me down here from Raleigh? On President's Day no less," Bevin said.
"No, hi Nathan, how are you and the family?" Nathan asked.
"It's President's Day, a day off for me, so this better be good," Bevin said.
Nathan nodded, "Please, come in," he said and stepped aside.
Bevin stepped into the house, and Nathan closed the door behind them. They went to Nathan's small office. Nathan took a seat behind the desk, and Bevin sat across from Nathan. She looked around the room at the various pictures, plaques, and trophies. Finally, Bevin leveled her eyes at Nathan.
"A lot of achievements to brag about and relive," Bevin said.
"It's more for the rare guest that comes here for an interview or a business proposal pitch," Nathan said.
"Nothing sticks?" Bevin asked.
"I'm selective about my business, as you know," Nathan said.
"I always thought the basketball camp was a good idea," Bevin said.
"I like the informal thing I do here," Nathan said.
"You've developed quite a reputation for developing girl players," Bevin said.
Nathan shrugged, "It's what I've been given, and anyways they generally play the same game I had," he said.
"Could you imagine the students you would get? The top candidates for college would flock here to pay for your guidance," Bevin said.
"I'm sure," Nathan said.
"You're usually direct about why you would call me here," Bevin said.
"Because I'm waiting," Nathan said.
"For?" Bevin asked.
"James and Haley," Nathan said.
"James and Haley? This is big," Bevin said.
"It could be," Nathan said.
"Anyway, congratulations on making the Hall of Fame list," Bevin said.
"I'm just on the list to be voted on," Nathan said.
"You'll get in, I'm sure," Bevin said.
Nathan shook his head, "from your lips," he said.
"The big question is who will present you," Bevin said.
"Back in my youth, I would've picked Kobe," Nathan said.
"But that's another story," Bevin said.
"Yeah," Nathan said.
The office door opened, and both Nathan and Bevin looked towards it. Haley James-Scott walked into the room, and James followed behind. Bevin stood up and greeted Haley. They hugged, and once separated, Haley took her place behind the desk, standing next to Nathan. Bevin greeted James next. After they exchanged pleasantries, James leaned against the wall.
"So, everyone is here, now. So, shall we begin?" Bevin asked.
"Yes, let us," Nathan said.
"So, what is this about?" Bevin asked, gesturing between her and Nathan.
"You've set up all the trusts for our grandchildren," Haley said.
"Yes, I have," Bevin said.
"I've been reviewing them, and I would like to make some changes," Nathan said.
"Some changes," Haley said.
"Okay, to which one?" Bevin asked.
"All of them," Nathan said.
"All of them?" Bevin asked.
"Yes, all of them," Nathan said.
"That's extensive," Bevin said.
"We just want everything to be equal across the board," Haley said.
"I can see that," Bevin said.
"Thank you," Haley said.
"Anything else?" Bevin asked.
"We want this discreet," Haley said.
Nathan picked up a file and handed it to Bevin. "That should contain all the information you need, plus something else we need to be done," he said.
Bevin picked up the file and opened it. She looked over the paperwork within. Most of the paperwork was just the trust documents, at least copies of them, for her to review and alter. There was a list of people that were going to need to sign. The changes made sense to Bevin due to the events in the intervening years since the trusts were established.
It all looked straightforward until she came to the last package in the folder. Looking over the papers, Bevin's eyes grew wide. Shaking her head, she closed the folder.
"Most of this is simple, I will have to get new signatures, but that's not a big deal," Bevin said.
"Which is to be expected," Haley said.
"The last thing will be a bit more complex; we shall say," Bevin said.
"Do you have the resources to do what we ask?" Haley asked.
"Resources can be acquired, as with anything, at a cost," Bevin said.
"That's what we expected," Haley said.
Bevin turned to look at James. "You've been rather quiet over there, James," Bevin said.
"I've not been directly involved, other than the trust changes," James said.
"So, what do you think of this all?" Bevin asked.
"It's not my money, but I find it fair," James said.
Bevin nodded, "Okay, is there anything else?" she asked.
"No," Nathan said.
"Bevin, would you like to say for lunch?" Haley asked.
"Thank you, but I should be going; it's a long ride back to Raleigh," Bevin said.
"I'll walk you out," James said.
Bevin nodded, opened her briefcase, and put the file into it. Bevin stood up upon closing the briefcase, "I'll get on this tomorrow," she said.
"Thank you," Nathan said.
"You're welcome," Bevin said and left the room with James following. Nathan and Haley just looked at each other and sighed.
