Chapter 528: Bobbi-Lee's Cottage
Tuesday, February 21st, Evening
After the basketball game, she drove home. On the way, she stopped off to get some coffee. It was a small local coffee shop that made good coffee. As she walked back to her car, she watched the parking lot.
Bobbi-Lee paused and sipped her coffee. She noticed a dad and daughter standing by an unscripted car. They were leaning against the car, drinking coffee. Bobbi-Lee studied the pair; both were tall, pale skin, and black-haired. After taking another sip of her coffee, Bobbi-Lee nodded and walked to her car.
After leaving the coffee shop, Bobbi-Lee drove straight back to her house. She walked into her house and hung up her coat. She headed up to her office loft, got in her desk chair, and opened her computer.
The large screens came to life, and she started to review some early concepts of some of her designs. Every so often, she would take a sip of her coffee. Using her mouse, she would rotate the virtual design. She put on headphones to listen to music.
The front door opened, and Bobbi-Lee stopped scrolling through her design. Leaning back, she removed her headphones and hung them around her neck. The soft sound of the music could still be heard.
Bobbi-Lee spun her desk chair to look at the stairs. A moment later, Brett appeared at the top of the stairs.
"Hell of a game tonight," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Thanks," Brett said.
"You're welcome," Bobbi-Lee said.
"So, already back to work?" Brett asked.
"Couldn't sleep, too keyed up, reviewing the designs help," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Drinking coffee doesn't help," Brett said.
"I bet you're keyed up," Bobbi-Lee said.
"A little," Brett said, "How do you know?"
"I remember standing on that baseline, cheering," Bobbi-Lee said.
"You and Jackie Gregory?" Brett asked.
"No, Jackie always worked at the restaurant," Bobbi-Lee said, "It was with Kate Sheridan."
"Who's Kate Sheridan?" Brett asked.
"A friend, an enemy, a frenemy, I guess you could say," Bobbi-Lee said.
"High school?" Brett asked.
"Yeah, I had a group of friends in high school much like yourself," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Who were they?" Brett asked.
"Myself, Jackie, Kate, DZ McMichael, and Johnny Mason," Bobbi-Lee said.
"DZ McMichael? Isn't that Uncle Andrew's brother?" Brett asked.
"Yes," Bobbi-Lee said.
Brett nodded, "What happened to everyone?" she asked.
"Oh boy," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Aunt Bobbi?" Brett asked.
"It's just been many years," Bobbi-Lee said, "You know the only one I'm in contact with is Jackie."
"What happened to the rest?" Brett asked.
Bobbi-Lee nodded, "When you were little, after college, I dated DZ. In high school and college, DZ and Kate dated. Right around when your granddad Cade died, DZ started cheating on me with Kate," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Oh shit, what happened?" Brett asked.
"I caught him; we broke up, never spoke to Kate again. I went away for a month; that's where I took up rock climbing. The last time I saw DZ was when your Aunt Kelly married your Uncle Andrew," Bobbi-Lee said.
"What about Johnny Mason?" Brett asked.
"He joined the army after high school and was killed in Afghanistan," Bobbi-Lee said.
"He's the flag downstairs?" Brett asked.
Bobbi-Lee nodded, "Yes," she said.
Brett nodded, "So, what are you looking at?" she asked.
"Some concepts for the Met Gala," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Oh, do you mind if I take a look?" Brett asked.
"Sure," Bobbi-Lee said and turned around.
Brett walked over and looked at the several large screens. Bobbi-Lee would pick a virtual model and move it around, showing off the details to Brett. The younger redhead looked over each design and took it all in.
"I like this one," Brett said.
"The mask is called a Colombina," Bobbi-Lee said.
"The outfits are something," Brett said.
"It's a thing," Bobbi-Lee said.
"I just can't see some of the designs being patriarchal for the Met Gala," Brett said.
Bobbi-Lee shook her head, "I'm trying to put a modern twist on it," she said.
Brett pointed to one of the designs. "Like the one I like," she said.
Bobbi-Lee looked at it. "Yeah," she said.
Brett looked it over. "I do like it," she said, "Really, like it."
Bobbi-Lee leaned forward, and with a few quick keystrokes, she smiled. Brett raised an eyebrow at her aunt. Bobbi-Lee leaned back.
"What did you do?" Brett asked.
"I sent that concept to Brooke for comment," Bobbi-Lee said.
"What are you, Batwoman?" Brett asked, chuckling.
"What?" Bobbi-Lee asked.
"You're hooked up and in," Brett said.
"It helps, with me working remotely," Bobbi-Lee said.
"So, what happens with that design?" Brett asked.
"Concept," Bobbi-Lee said.
"So, what happens with that concept?" Brett asked.
"Brooke will comment on it, and I'll adjust it, etc.," Bobbi-Lee said.
"How long will that take?" Brett asked.
"I don't know," Bobbi-Lee said.
Brett nodded and turned away. That was when a ding was heard over Bobbi-Lee's headphones.
"What was that?" Brett asked.
Bobbi-Lee leaned forward and clicked on a notification. The design came back with one adjustment and a few comments. Bobbi-Lee looked it over and nodded.
"Hmm," Bobbi-Lee said.
"What?" Brett asked.
"How would you like to model the design?" Bobbi-Lee asked.
"What?" Brett asked.
"Brooke wants to see it in real life, and I think it would look great on you," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Don't you have models on call for this?" Brett said.
"Yes, but I want you," Bobbi-Lee said.
Brett nodded, "Sure," she said.
"Okay, I have to get back to work, and I'll set up a time we can get you measured," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Really?" Brett asked.
"Yes, really," Bobbi-Lee said. With a laugh and pulled on her headphones.
Brett smiled and went downstairs to the guest bedroom.
