Chapter 1:The Beginning to all things

Why...

Blood dripped from his wound. Grunting in pain, he attempted to lessen the flow of blood from his body. Instead, a disgusting squelching sound was made as blood gushed out, further staining his clothes.

What did we do...

Desperately, the boy looked around his surroundings. All he could see was rusted metal pipes, crumbling walls and a faded painting of sorts. Nothing he could use to help bind up wounds.

Why is God so cruel?

Despair nearly engulfed him, but he willed himself to stay strong. Checking his body, he made sure that he was fine, before he stood up. Ignoring the stabs of pain he felt when he walked, Kazuto walked to the corner of the church he was in, where a rusted pipe lay.

I swear. By the end of this, we would be fine. I swear it.

Flashback, 30 hours ago

"Huh?"

"Onii-chan…" Suguha Kirigaya, or as she is known in-game, Leafa, sighed in exasperation. "Like I just said, I am moving out."

"I got that part." Kazuto Kirigaya, or as he is commonly called by his friends, Kirito, managed to shake himself out of his shock. "I just don't understand why."

"Mou~" Pouting, Suguha paused in her packing to face her brother/cousin. Even after knowing that her 'brother' was actually her cousin 3 years ago, she still could not change her habit of calling him 'Onii-chan'. "Were you thinking about the Asuna-san again?"

"Maybe…"

"Alright, I will explain it to you again." Suguha sighed as she resumed her packing. "The school I want to go to is pretty far. It would take nearly one day to reach there from here, so it would be better for me to rent a place for me to stay in, or use one of their dorms. So, you are going to help me settle in at my new place!" Suguha cheerfully added as she spun around, packing tape held in her hand.

"I– Okay…" Kazuto sighed in resignation as he helped his 'sister' pack her things. One of the few things that the two cousins shared, besides their hair and eye colours, was their stubbornness, despite their almost polar attitudes towards people. When Suguha gets like that, there is no way to convince her.

*Ding*

"Oh?" Kirito set down the box of things he had just sealed up, reaching for his phone. "A message from…Asuna?" Blinking in surprise, he wordlessly left the room and headed out towards the front door. Suguha watched in surprise as he left the back room in a hurry, only to reappear a few minutes later with a few certain individuals… …

"Asuna-san! Yui-chan! And…Rika-san?"

"Ya-ho!" Shinozaki Rika, also known as Lisbeth, popped out from her place behind Asuna. "We were in the area, so we decided to pop by for some tea."

"Sorry…" Suguha apologetically clasped her hands together, pausing in her packing to face the two(three, if including the VR probe that Yui used). Kazuto had disappeared, probably to prepare some drinks for their unexpected guests. "I can't serve you guys right now. The moving vehicle is coming later today, so I need to have all the things I need ready by then. Have a seat first, I'll serve-"

"We heard from Kirito-kun." Asuna smiled. "So, we decided to help out as well. We can always have tea later on."

"It's fine Asuna-san." Suguha waved off Asuna and Rika. "I wil get some tea for you two, so make–"

"I said that we would help, Su-gu-ha-san"

HIIIIIIII!

Suguha quickly backed away from the chestnut haired girl, the air around her suddenly becoming denser. Rika also took a few small steps back, overwhelmed by her aura, even though she was not the target!

In the kitchen, Kazuto shivered a little at his girlfriend's dark aura. It can't be helped. Asuna is very scary when she is in mothering-hen mode.

It took a while, but the four teenagers managed to pack all the clothes and items that Suguha would need when she was in her new school.

Clothes, check. Augma, check. What else…Oh, and my kendo gear. Suguha picked up the boxes which she would need, labelling each one with a marker as she did so. Most of her personal items and clothes had already been packed into boxes, ready to be put away in her room. Seeing as she would not be back for a while, it would be better for her to pack them in boxes, instead of leaving them in her drawer so that when Kazuto needed to, he could just bring the box instead of rummaging through her drawers. Onii-chan might have learnt how to cook, and is great with electronics, but when it comes down to organisation, it's really sloppy.

Actually, Kazuto was not very sloppy. Just…unmotivated to keep things neat and tidy. That said, he does not leave everything everywhere. He just chooses to leave things he would commonly use lying about in a corner of his room. The rest would be packed away neatly.

"Onii-chan, please help him bring my bokuto with you!"

"Hai." Kazuto responded in a weary tone. Suguha had run him ragged. She had got him to bring the boxes up and down the house, clean up her room while she prepared the biscuits, and made him promise to follow her later to Kuoh. As the driver of the moving company would need directions, she would have to sit with the driver. Her bokuto was too cumbersome to carry with her AmuSphere(she wanted to carry the box it was in by hand. It was one of the few devices that would allow her to see Yui, and she saw no reason to stop playing ALO when she arrived in Kuoh), so she needed another way to bring the practice tool. And the solution: Kazuto.

"Suguha-san, why do you need to bring your kendo things? Wouldn't it be better to leave them here?" Rika asked as she took a sip from the tea Asuna brewed. Despite her insistence at making tea for them, Asuna strong-armed her way into making the pot of tea. Knowing when she was beat, Suguha gave it up, opting instead to prepare the cups and biscuits.

"Suguha needs them for her new school. Apparently, they have a kendo club there as well, so she would need her kendo gear for practice. Plus, it would remind her of home, so she would not get homesick." Kazuto explained to the two, teasing his cousin at the end.

"Onii-chan~"

"Geh!" Kazuto quickly placed the cup of tea to his mouth, facing away from his cousin in order to avoid the glare she was currently giving him. After all was said and done, even though he had faced through many troubles, most of them life-threatening, he was still weak against the females close in his life.

Suguha, Liz, Asada, just to name a few. And most importantly, Asuna.

Suguha continued to stare at Kazuto for a few minutes, before she turned away, allowing Kazuto to breathe a sigh of relief.

"So, which school is it that you are going to, Suguha-san?" Yui asked from her probe.

"Mmmm" Suguha thought about it for a moment, setting down her cup of tea. "Wait a minute, I have the school's name somewhere on me..."

Sticking her hands into her pockets, she pulled out a crumpled piece of paper. From its layout and color, it was obviously the receipt for the moving company. "Got it! Now, let's see..."

"Its called Kuoh Academy"

Kazuto wanted to sleep.

He was tired from the 15 hour drive(Including toilet and food breaks), and wanted to have a nice, cool shower. And his passenger agreed.

"Kirito-kun, how we going back? By bike later? Or are we going to stay in Suguha-san's place for the night before we leave in the morning?" Asuna yawned(rather cutely, in Kirito's humble perspective), before she snuggled into his back. So warm… she thought, blushing just a tad bit

"Hmm." Kazuto pondered that. He had forgotten that he would have to drive back. Or rather, he had just chosen to ignore that little fact. Initially, he had planned to help Sugu move her stuff, and then ask. If she said yes, he would take a nap, look around the neighbourhood and the school where Suguha would be going to in the morning, then leave. If some circumstances had said that he could not, like, for example, a roommate, or a rule stating 'No boys allowed' , he would have just gone back. He was, after all, used to staying up for a few days straight back in Aincard. The only difference between then and now would that he would also have to remember to eat. But now…

"If its just Sugu, I bet she would allow us to. But, if we can't for some reason or the other, we could just rent a room from a hotel or something." Kazuto told Asuna as they stopped at a traffic light. It was a pretty quiet night in Kuoh. Looking to his left, he could see his cousin waving at him and Asuna. Waving back, he looked forward once more, paying attention to the traffic light ahead. "Do you want to see what Kuoh Academy looks like in the morning?"

"Why not tonight?" Asuna asked Kazuto. "We could look at it at night, and in the morning. See how they look at different times of the day."

"Have you been talking to Liz recently about these type of things?"

"Its a secret~"

"The Asuna I know would have never done something like sneaking into school at night." Kazuto grinned as he teased his girlfriend.

"That was then. This is now." Despite her tone, Kazuto felt her arms tighten around his waist, indicating that she was embarrassed. She is becoming a little less like what a person would expect from living inside of a large room and being the daughter of the CEO of a large company. Kazuto thought in amusement. I guess Liz is rubbing off on her.

The light turned green. Allowing the truck to move first, he attempted to follow, only to stop as he found his way blocked by another vehicle that was behind the moving truck. Damn! Guess I would have to wait for the next chance.

..

..

...turns out, that was a mistake.

After the car passed, he followed the truck behind the car. Thankfully, the car was following the truck as well, so he did not have to worry too much about losing his way in this new area. At least, that was what he thought. The next thing he knew, the truck had disappeared, the only vehicles around being his motorbike and the car he had followed. What?

Asuna, also having noticed that they had lost the truck, waited until Kazuto had pulled over, before she took off her helmet and placed on her Augma. "Yui, where are we?"

"Mama!" Appearing out of the corner of her eye, her daughter appeared in pixie form. Flying for a few seconds around her field of vision, she returned and reported to Asuna. "Mama, we are quite a distance away from Suguha-san's living area."

"Why did I lose track of the truck, Yui?" Kazuto joined in on the now family discussion, slipping on his Augma as he spoke. I might need to experiment with making a AR helmet for me and Asuna to converse with Yui. This is kind of unsafe for the both of us if we use the bike.

"Papa, you lost the truck because your mind subconsciously switched the target of your tailing from Suguha-san's truck to the car that was in-front of you." Yui flew to Kazuto's direct line of sight. Hands on her hips, Yui turned into her 10-year old form, switching her pixie flower petal outfit for her usual plain white cotton dress. "Bad papa! You lost track of Suguha-san's truck, and made mama lost!"

"Kirito-kun, how could you…" Asuna faked a sniff, a smile hidde beneath her hand. "You made us lost. Now you would have to make your poor girlfriend sleep under the stars, in the open night sky, without something over her head…"

"Urk!" Two imaginary arrows pierced Kazuto's body, located around where his heart would be. Being lectured by his girlfriend is one thing, especially in when she was speaking in a teasing tone, but when he was lectured by his A.I. daughter, that would deal quite a bit of damage to him. And if Asuna strikes at him, teasing tone or not, immediately after being lectured by his daughter, he would receive even more damage. "Yui…Asuna…please forgive this useless boyfriend…"

Giggling at the sight of Kazuto, Asuna turned her attention back to Yui. ("Please, forgive me…" Kazuto cried in the background) "Yui, how long would it take if we were to go by the usual roads?"

"Erm…mama, it would take about 30 minutes to get to our destination if we go by the main roads." Yui turned back into her pixie form, landing onto Asuna's outstretched palm. "But, if you take multiple shortcuts, it would be 10 minutes instead."

"Thank you Yui." Asuna attempted to pat her daughter's head, only for her finger to pass through her body, eliciting a cry from her daughter. "Ah! Sorry Yui, did that hurt you?"

"No mama, it was just ticklish." Yui giggled. "See you at home!" She gave a parting wave before she flew out of her vision, most likely back to the small log house on floor 22.

"See you." Asuna whispered, before she took off her Augma. Turning back to her boyfriend, she was a little shocked to see him whispering to himself. "Kirito-kun?"

"I'm sorry that I am such a bad boyfriend, Asuna." Kazuto muttered in a small voice. He was currently leaning against a lamppost that was near his bike. "I'm sorry that I am such a ba–Yeouch!"

Unable to stand seeing her boyfriend in such a state, Asuna used her fingers to pinch his cheek. Rubbing his cheek, he looked at his girlfriend, who was smirking a little. "Glad that you are paying attention. Yui found us an alternative way. I looked memorized the way there, so let's go."

"Hai."

"Hee hee hee heee!" A shadowy figure sprinted under the cover of darkness. He was moving at fast speeds. So fast that humans would be unable to track their movements by eyesight alone. "Another devil bites the dust~ You take one bullet, pass it around, shoot it into a shitty devil, and do it again~ Take two bullets, pass it around, shoot it into two shitty devils, and do it again~…Oh?"

Something glinted out of the corner of his eye. He tried to stop his body, only to slip on a puddle of water. "Gah!"

Steadying himself, the figure backtracked, his little slip-up having caused him to slide a few meters ahead of his intended stopping point.

A shadow of a leathery wing was plastered across an alley wall, before it disappeared, the light that was casting it having moved off the person with the wing. He pondered for a minute. It could be a person cosplaying. Or…

"He he he ha ha ha!" Giggling like a madman, the man pulled out a pistol from his coat. "Is God looking out for one of his shepherds? Hmm, I wonder, I wonder. Oh wait, He is dead. Ku ha ha ha ha!" Bringing it close to his face, he used his tongue to lick it, barrel first. "Either way, that is another shitty devil for this Freed Sellzen to kill! Ka ka ka ka ka!"

"Kirito-kun?"

"Yeah?"

"You remember when we first found Yui?"

"Yeah…"

"I have the same feeling when they appeared." Kazuto immediately understood

"Get on." With a swift movement, she climbed onto the bike. Revving the engine, he accelerated.

"Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Shitty devils, it's time for you to die~"

Kirito!"

Timeskip(actually, a few seconds, but meh)

Urg… Kazuto groggily opened his eyes.

One moment, he was riding his bike. The next thing he knew, he was lying on the ground, Asuna beside him. A flaming wreck laid a dozen meters in-front of him, the wall against it a total wreck. What happened? All he recalled was a burning pain in his side, and–

A wet feeling spread in his pants. Placing his hand there, he drew it to his face to see a red substance. Blood.

Instinct took over. He did not know what to do. Who attacked, or even why. All he knew was that he had to hide out somewhere, and bring Asuna to safety. Looking back on it now, Kirito would only recall flashes of what he had done that fateful night.

He salvaged what he could from his now totalled bike to use as a weapon. Not much he could use, as most of it was in the burning wreckage of a bike. A tailpipe was left, as was the remains of his spare jacket.

He had carried Asuna, bridal style, to a location that he knew would be safe. One where he could tell that there would be no danger to him or Asuna whatsoever.

He vaguely recalled hearing someone shout out "Shitty devils", "game", and "last legs." But none of that mattered to him at that current moment. All he had on his mind was to keep Asuna safe.

He managed to make his way to an abandoned church. Despite its sorry state, it would at least give them some shelter from the elements. Entering the church, he quickly set down Asuna, checking her over for her wounds. Blood was pouring from Asuna's head. She had not been wearing her helmet. And right now, he was a little thankful for that. Her helmet was a bright colour, white. Which would have most likely meant a headshot. Thankfully, it looked to be a just a graze. What really worried him was the spreading stain on her blouse.

Ripping it off with a jagged piece of the wreckage, he paled in horror at seeing the wound.

Blood was pouring from her hip, as well as her left shoulder and thigh.

Ripping the plain, but (thankfully, in Kazuto's mind) baggy blouse into strips, he created tourniquets for her thigh and shoulder. Her hip was harder, but he managed.

Now, he looked over his own body. He fared no better. His thigh, as well as his shoulder, were hit. He realized a few things in that space of a few seconds. Asuna was injured heavier because she took the hits for him. She had forcefully braked the vehicle, using the bokuto she had been carrying to jam the motor. Then pushed him off the bike with some moves he had learned from Sinon(It was meant to be used in GGO to deal damage, but could also be very effective in throwing people off their bikes, as she had discovered by accident during one of their rides with the 'ancient relics', as Sinon once called them). And, whoever had shot them was still chasing after them.

"HEEEEEEYYYY, SHITTTY DEVILS! WHERE ARE YOU! THE LORD IS WAITING FOR YOUR DEATHS, SO PLEASE DIE PAINFULLY! KU HA HA HA HA"

Why…

Blood dripped from his wound. Grunting in pain, he attempted to lessen the flow of blood from his body. Instead, a disgusting squelching sound was made as blood gushed out, further staining his clothes.

What did we do…

Desperately, the boy looked around his surroundings. All he could see was rusted metal pipes, crumbling walls and a faded painting of sorts. Nothing he could use to help bind up wounds.

Why is God so cruel?

Despair nearly engulfed him, but he willed himself to stay strong. Checking his body, he made sure that he was fine, before he stood up. Ignoring the stabs of pain he felt when he walked, Kazuto walked to the corner of the church he was in, where a rusted pipe lay.

I swear. By the end of this, we would be fine. I swear it.

Freed was having a bad time.

Sure, he was initially excited with the prospect of killing more shitty devils, but with all that was said and done, he was actually getting irritated with this little game of hide-and-kill.

"HEEEEEEYYYY, SHITTTY DEVILS! WHERE ARE YOU! THE LORD IS WAITING FOR YOUR DEATHS, SO PLEASE DIE PAINFULLY! KU HA HA HA HA"

"No response, eh?" Freed muttered after a while. "Eh. It would be boring of they suddenly scream and cry-Oh?" He had noticed the church. Smiling, he put away his gun, instead reaching for his light sword. "Ke ke ke ke. Since I shot them pretty good, they must be in super agony right now. I would like to torture them more, but they could have already called for reinforcements. Guess I should just decapitate them and call it a day."

..

..

"Heeeeyy devil-kuns! This Freed has come to end your miserable lives!" Freed shouted as he practically waltzed into the broken down church.

The minute Kazuto saw the man waltz into the 'room', he carried out his plan.

"Hey nut-job!" Kazuto swung down the makeshift sword he created, expecting it to come into contact with the silver-hared teen's body. "Eat this shit!"

…only to see the top half get sliced into bits with a few swings of– Is that a photon blade?!

"Ka ka ka! shitty devil, you would have to try harder than that!" Freed gloated in-front of the black haired teen.

…Only to scream in pain as his leg got severely cut with a rusted pipe.

"Gah!" Using his remaining, uninjured leg, he jumped back as far as possible, swing down his light blade in an attempt to cut of the leg that was attached to the pipe, or at the very least, the pipe itself to reduce the number of weapons the black haired person had by one, only to find his arm blocked by the remaining bottom half of the makeshift sword, preventing his arm from even moving, much less cut of anything. "Who are you, you shitty devil!"

"Go and repent for your sins!" Kazuto decided to throw in an insult at the exorcist, hoping it would at least faze him. "No, you shitty devil!"

…apparently not.

"Enough games. Die, you shitty devil." The silver haired teen declared coldly, his mood doing a total 180. Reaching into his coat, he pulled out a metal object.

"!"

Acting quickly, Kazuto dashed as fast as he could, his broken sword already in the position of Sonic Leap. But it was no use. He realised it was a feint the moment he saw the grin on the teen's face.

Next thing he knew, he was facing the starry night, a heavy rust smell in the air. Blood His head helpfully supplied. He heard footsteps, but he could not move his head. Freed had appeared in his field of vision.

"Tut tut, shitty devil. Did you really think you could stop me without help?" He shook his head in mock disappointment, before he gave a large grin. "To make up for the earlier trouble you gave me, perhaps you could pay me back by dying in despair!" He activated his light blade, its edge humming faintly. "Starting with the death of this shitty devil first!"

Asuna! Blood rushed to his head. "Don't you touch her!"

"Oh? So you shitty devils love each other? Well then, you can die together!" Cackling, he dragged Asuna's comatose body next to him. The perfect place for him to witness Asuna's death.

..No…No…NO…NONONONONONONONON!

All the times that Asuna was hurt rushed into his mind.

..

Heathcliff moving to finish him off, only for Asuna to take the blow, and disperse into polygons seconds later.

Oberon ripping off her clothes, still suspended by his admin privileges, as he prepared to rape her in-game.

Asuna losing her memories of Aincrad as she recalled the trauma of dying

..

"NOOOOOO!"

With a roar of pure willpower, Kazuto forced himself up, using the discarded pipe from his first move to impale the silver-haired teen's thigh.

"Gargh!" Shouting in pain, he kicked Kazuto off him. Rolling, he somehow managed to get close to Asuna. He realized the teen had kicked her to him as he dealt with the pain of having a rusted pipe impale his leg. Glaring at the fallen boy, he moved to slice his light sword down, only to hesitate. "...Shitty devil, you get to live after all. That is, if you can survive. I do hope we meet again, when you are full strength. This Freed Sellzen is very interested in you now."

That was all that Kazuto heard before he fainted from the pain that was coming from his stomach.

Where…am…I?

Opening his eyes slowly, the first thing he saw was an unfamiliar ceiling.

I remember our ride to Sugu's place, us getting lost, then…

The events from the previous night rushed into his head.

"Asuna!" Bolting upright, he looked frantically for his girlfriend, only sighing in relief when he realized her unconscious form next to him, in a separate bed.

"I see that you are awake."

Hearing the unfamiliar voice, he turned to look at the newcomer.

Brown hair, a slightly muscular body, and light brown eyes. He looked human, but Kazuto's senses were telling him otherwise.

"Who are you?" Urgh, his voice sudden hoarse. How long had he been out?

"You don't know, stray?'

Another new one. Kazuto looked at the other newcomer. Flaming red hair, blue-green eyes, and white skin. Looks to be of European descent. "Stray?"

"So you don't even know me?" The redhaired woman pondered a bit, before she held out her palm. Black energy swirled, forming a sphere.

"I am Rias Gremory. The one next to me is the Red Dragon Emperor, also known as the Sekiryuutei, Hyoudou Issei. And now, it's time for you to answer some questions."

"Mainly, who ARE you exactly, Strays?"

Author Notes

Happy April Fools! Hope you readers enjoyed this chapter. That said, it is pretty much just lots of questions and no answers, what with this being the first chapter. The next update would occur within a month's time, so please be patient. Check my bio if you really want to know. This is also my second fic that I planned to make, and the first one that I actually thought out. But, that was a year ago, so my style has changed quite a bit. Hence, it would go under a complete rewrite. Though, the framework is more or less the same. Please show support to other stories of this crossover below. 'Devils of Aincard', 'Devils Art Online' and 'Gamer's Guide to the Underworld'.

That's all folks, and remember to stay healthy and keep clean in these times!
