Chapter 570: Tree Hill High School
Wednesday, March 1st, Afternoon
She walked down the high school hall towards the commons for lunch. She took a different route than usual because her class was suddenly moved. After all, some issue in the class's ordinary room was being fixed. She turned around the corner to leave the stairwell and entered the hallway.
Not even two steps from the stairwell, Brett stopped dead in her place. Her eyes, finely tuned from playing basketball, locked onto her boyfriend, Garvan Muir. Brett was pretty tall and could see over the crowd. Garvan was leaning on a locker, looking down at this blonde junior girl. Brett knew who it was, Felicia Watt. Brett snorted; that girl could even light up a light bulb if it used brain power for energy.
Garvan had an easy-going stance as he talked to Felicia. Brett noticed Felicia looked up adoringly at Garvan and would even giggle at things he would say. Every so often, Felicia would cant her head, and Brett wanderers what the fuck was going on here. Why was Garvan talking up this blonde girl that had trouble stringing letters together to spell a word?
Brett screwed up her lips in thought. Garvan next leaned forward and kissed Felicia. Brett's eyes shot open, and it took all her power to keep her mouth shut. Her hands initially shot straight open but soon curled up into fists.
Shaking her head, Brett kept to herself, despite her Irish Blood and feeling the inner bear awaking, not to make a scene. Slowly, she turned around and walked up the stairs. Once she was on top of the stairs, she took a deep breath and tried to center herself. Brett settled her game face on and walked towards the commons. She climbed down the stairs there and looked for her friends.
Brett walked over to the table where Baylee and Avril sat. She took a seat and started to unpack her lunch. Baylee and Avril looked at each other, then at Brett.
"What's wrong, B?" Baylee asked.
"Nothing, my class got moved, and it has me a little out of sorts," Brett said.
"You know you were never good at lying," Avril said.
"It's not something I won't want to deal with," Brett said.
"It's better to deal with it now; we have our gaming coming up, the final-four game," Avril said.
"I'll take it out on our opponents," Brett said.
"That's not the answer, B; anyways, you got to meet Anya Wolfle, so jelly," Baylee said.
"Bay, can't you see she's hurting," Avril said, "Is it your momma?"
"No, it's not my mom," Brett said.
"Then who is it, B?" Baylee asked.
"It's nothing, and I don't want to make a scene," Brett said.
Baylee canted her head, "Why don't you want to cause a scene?" she asked.
"Because, Bay, she wants to play against Millbrook Saturday," Avril said.
"Oh yeah, so please don't cause a scene," Baylee said.
"That's the plan," Brett said.
"But you need to let it out, B," Baylee said.
"Why do I have to let it out, Bay?" Brett asked.
"She does have a point, B, and you know that's tough for me to say," Avril said.
"Yeah, B, let it out, so it doesn't fester and cause a scene," Baylee said.
"You better not start singing. Let it go, Bay," Avril said.
"Avril?" Brett asked.
"I agree; get it out," Avril said.
"Well, I said my class was moved," Brett said.
"Yeah," Baylee said.
"So, I came down the stairs, and who do I see leaning on a locker talking up and putting moves on Felicia Watt," Brett said.
"That could be half the school," Avril said.
"This is getting juicy," Baylee said.
Avril elbowed Baylee, "Let her tell the story, Bay," she said.
"Okay," Baylee said and rubbed her ribs, "So who was kissing Felicia?" Baylee asked.
"The better question is who hasn't," Avril said.
"What about supporting other women, Av?" Baylee asked.
"I think I know where this is going," Avril said.
"Don't spoil it, Av," Baylee said and turned to Brett, "Please continue."
"It was Garvan," Brett said.
"Excuse me?" Baylee asked, "Garvan, as in Garvan Muir, you said?"
"Yes," Brett said.
"As in your Garvan?" Baylee asked.
"Yes, Bay, how many Garvans are in this school?" Brett asked.
"Only Garvan Muir," Baylee said.
"Exactly," Brett said.
Baylee stood up, "I'm going to kill him for you," she said.
Avril grabbed Baylee and pulled her back down. "You're going to kill him?" she said.
"Yes, I am," Baylee said.
"You're not going to kill him," Avril said.
"I'm not?" Baylee asked.
"No, because I am," Avril said.
"Neither of you are going to do anything," Brett said.
"Of course, that's your daddy's job, with his shotgun," Baylee said.
"He's not either," Brett said.
"Why not, B?" Baylee asked.
"Because, A, the team needs you both for Saturday. B, it's my responsibility to deal with this situation. Finally, C, what about Nessa?" Brett said.
"Nessa?" Baylee asked.
"Yeah, Nessa," Brett said.
"Why, Nessa?" Baylee asked.
"Nessa is dating Forest, and he's Garvan's best friend," Avril said.
"Yeah," Baylee said.
"I need Nessa to keep my grades up," Brett said.
"Fuck you, Garvan," Avril said.
"Yeah, fuck you, Garvan," Baylee said.
"Not anymore," Brett said.
"Damn straight," Avril said.
"So, what do I do?" Brett asked.
"Well, I have an idea," Avril said.
"Okay, what is it, Av?" Brett asked.
"There's a rumor your Aunt Bobbi and her friend Jackie took care of your aunt's cheating boyfriend," Avril said.
"My Aunt Bobbi? The shut-in cat lady?" Brett asked.
"From what I understand, she wasn't always shut into her house," Avril said, "But yeah."
"That's your advice; talk to my Aunt Bobbi?" Brett asked.
"Yes," Avril said.
Brett shrugged, "What else do I have to lose," she said, and they nodded.
AN: I will be on hiatus for about a week for some personal time.
