Chapter 573: Manhattan

Wednesday, March 1st, Evening

The moonlight drifted through the bedroom. She sat on her bed with her back against the headboard. A book was on her lap; she looked down and slimmed lines. After finishing the page, she started down another. The words streamed into her head; the description was vivid and painted pictures.

Her smartphone rang, and she reached over for it. Fallon nodded and looked at the screen; her eyes opened with surprise, then returned to normal. Fallon marked her position in the book and answered the phone.

"Privet, kak dela, K·et?" Fallon asked.

"Tvoy russkiy stanovit·sya luchshe, F·ellon," Kat said.

"That's about it for me," Fallon said.

"Better than last time we talked," Kat said.

"So, what is going on?" Fallon asked.

"I'm in town and wanted to check in, see how things are going," Kat said.

Fallon laughed, "RBR already has me on the list," Fallon said.

"Cool," Kat said, "I need some input from my most connected friend in the city."

Fallon laughed again, "So, what do you need?" she asked.

"I'm interested in the Alex Grasland exhibit at the Knight Gallery," Kat said.

"The Knight Gallery, you don't say," Fallon said, with a smile on her face.

"Yes, I've seen a few Grasland's paintings online, but I never saw one up close," Kat said.

"It's a great show; I've been to it," Fallon said.

"Thanks for the heads up," Kat said.

"You're welcome; anything else?" Fallon asked.

"No, you answered the few questions I had," Kat said and disconnected.

Fallon put the phone down and went to pick up her book. She sighed and looked at the clock on the side table. Fallon nodded, picked up her smartphone, and dialed a number.

"What's up, Fallon?" Grant asked.

"I got an interesting call tonight," Fallon said.

"So, you had to share?" Grant asked.

"Well, it involves the Knight Gallery," Fallon said.

"What about the gallery?" Grant asked.

"One of my friends is in town and asked about the Alex Grasland exhibit," Fallon said.

"Okay, what about Alex's exhibit?" Grant asked.

"My friend Kat mentioned she wanted to see the exhibit," Fallon said.

"So, a friend of yours wants to see the exhibit. Is she one of your country club friends?" Garnet asked.

"No, a high school friend," Fallon said.

"Which high school?" Also, you called me about this?" Grant asked.

"Tree Hill," Fallon said.

"Okay, so a friend is coming up for a girl's weekend?" Grant asked.

"No, she's in town on business," Fallon said.

"Okay, so what business is she in?" Grant asked.

"Music, she's on tour with a band," Fallon said.

"What does she do?" Grant asked.

"Vocalist is how she would put it," Fallon said.

"So, she's a backing vocalist or a session vocalist, right?" Grant asked.

"No, she's a lead vocalist," Fallon said.

"Oh really? What band?" Grant asked.

"Nordwind," Fallon said.

"So, let me get this straight, your friend from high school is Kat Hartmann," Grant said.

"Yeah," Fallon said.

"So, Kat Hartmann wants to come to my gallery?" Grant asked.

"Yes, she does, and her husband too," Fallon said.

"Okay," Grant said.

"Yeah, so expect to see them sometime this week," Fallon said.

"Okay, but I never thought Kat Hartmann was much into art," Grant said.

"Kat is, well, an interesting person," Fallon said.

"Would they be interested in a private show?" Grant asked.

"You can arrange that?" Fallon asked.

"Yes, I can, and even if they want, I can have Alex there," Grant said.

"That's right, you know the artist personally," Fallon said.

"I can do it," Grant said.

"That would be a great surprise for both of them," Fallon said.

"Yes, it would, and you're good," Grant said.

"What are you talking about?" Fallon asked.

"You called me specifically to see what I could do for your friend," Grant said.

"I did no such thing. I was just sharing an interesting conversation with a friend that involved your job and exhibit," Fallon said, "But hypothetically, it's good to keep your talent happy."

"Talent?" Grant asked.

"Long story," Fallon said.

"I feel most of your stories are long," Grant said.

"I'll let Kat and Arne know so we can set a time," Fallon said.

"I'll check with Alex," Grant said.

"Alright, I'll talk to you soon," Fallon said.

"Okay," Grant said, "Again, you're good at this."

"Why do you think Kat called me?" Fallon asked.

"Do you do this for all your friends?" Grant asked.

"More," Fallon said.

"Alright, I'll talk to you soon," Grant said.

"Talk to you soon, Grant," Fallon said and hung up. She smiled and dialed another number. "Kat, I got you and Arne a private showing of the exhibit."

"Fallon, how did you do that?" Kat asked.

Fallon smiled, "I have my ways," she said.
