Mezame

Written by Warp "Ligia" Obscura

A/N: What to put here? Not an easy question to answer, you know. This takes place in Episode 23, when Miyu visits the lake. Although we never do hear Alyssa sing Mezame, let us just assume she can. :P

A chill wind blew. It should have bothered the solitary figure in the coat, since only shorts protected her legs from the gusts that accompanied the driving rain, but she only stood solemnly at attention before the body of water.

When Miyu Greer had been last here, up on this mountaintop, the surroundings had been snowed over and the lake had frozen. Back then, the ground had been stained red with blood. Miss Alyssa's blood. She had been quick to eliminate the assassin, even though the man had been her own "father", but that had done nothing to save young Searrs from the Grim Reaper.

The situation had changed since she had last been active. Based on the way the spiky-haired girl with the black claymore, named Mikoto Minagi according to her memory banks, had tried to attack her against the pleadings of the orange-haired Mai Tokiha and redhead teacher Midori Sugiura, the phase of HiME infighting had begun. Miyu knew about this phase, of course. It followed after the early Orphan-fighting, after the Valkyries had begun to develop friendly bonds. If Miyu was a sentimental person, she would have called it cruel, but she was not. None of the Valkyries had been on Miss Alyssa's side anyway.

Why was she still around? When she had walked into the lake, Miyu had wanted all of this to end, to experience the total loss of feeling that came with deactivation, yet it had not been permanent, for she had been revived by that kid Director Kazahana.

What did the little tyke want? Was she not useless? Searrs had been quick enough to dismiss Miss Alyssa after the loss of Artemis and Master Searrs. Based on what Miyu could recall, they were planning on falling back on the original Valkyrie prototype, one brunette by the name of Arika Yumemiya, who had had superior modifications but was kept back due to "instabilities". She pitied the tot's mother and head handler, Dr. Rena Yumemiya, for a bad fate would likely befall that one too. For better or worse, Miyu now knew the emotional effects of loss.

Miyu abruptly recalled a song that Miss Alyssa's teacher, Xukji Rayiaku, had been teaching her lately. It had been titled Mezame and was a faster thing than It's Only The Fairy Tale had been. What little decipherable content it boasted seemed to make sense now, in an odd way.

"Call me victory." Miss Alyssa had been meant to be Searrs' means of victory in the Valkyrie's Carnival, along with Artemis and Miyu's power, but they had been disowned now. "Remember me." Humans were fragile things with feeble memories, unable to recall anything perfectly, unlike Miyu's flawless memory banks. "For victory." Miss Alyssa had been the intended way to success. "Call me." Humans were beings that required affirmation from others, sometimes to ridiculous extents. Miss Alyssa was no exception, gaining care from Miyu herself where others had seen her as a mere tool. "Sorry." This was more confusing. Was it an apology for being unable to bring about the Golden Millennium or one for leaving Miyu behind and alone?

Miyu shook off the thoughts. The kid Director had not been kind enough to merely repair her and leave the rest well alone. Miyu was aware that some of her code had been altered, including the secret Vortex Mode, but she could not tell exactly what the changes had been. She would need to find the Gate of Valhalla, where something promised to give her answers. Where was it? Perhaps Tokiha would know.

She turned to leave and soon the lake was devoid of life once more.
