Episode 16: That Nights
March 6th – March 10th
I noticed things tend to happen at night. Be it good or bad, when the clock changes from AM to PM or from 1100 to 1200, things change. We probably spend most of our lives awake in the PM. It's an amazing thing. Please, please, please, share some of your favorite stories about the night below.

Chapter 596: Queens
Monday, March 6th, Afternoon
The final interview took place in a hotel suite near LaGuardia Airport. That made it a challenge with the sound. That was fortunately worked out during the first and shorter interview. The second interview was more important anyways. She looked at her interviewer, who got comfortable in the chair, as the microphone was set up.
Katrina Jared, aka Kat Hartmann, looked across the table at Felicia VanAnkeren. Felicia was a tall woman, almost ten inches over five feet; Kat herself was tall, but not that tall. Both were also blonde. As similar as they were, they were very different. Kat knew that this was going to be about Brian Scott. Kat exhaled and tried to center herself for what was about to come.
"Katrina, or do you prefer Kat?" Felicia asked.
"Either or, but most people know me as Kat," Kat said.
"Kat, you know the drill; the difference here is that this is a conversation; you can take your time and take as many breaks as you need. Is that good?" Felicia said.
"Yes, I do," Kat said.
"Good, please give me a count down," Felicia said and started recording.
"One…two…three," Kat said, "Three…two…one."
"Good," Felicia said, "Please state your name and your relationship with Brian Scott and Gabi Vincent."
"My name is Kat Hartmann; currently, I am the lead singer of the band Nordwind. I was the bass player, co-songwriter, and co-founder of Mental Lapse, and I also played bass with Brian in High-Performance Heart Attack," Kat said.
"How did you meet Brian?" Felicia asked.
"I played bass in High-Performance Heart Attack, and we practiced in Hawley's garage. Brian just showed up. I'm not sure how it all went down, but Brian was joining us as a singer and sometimes guitar player," Kat said.
"It was said that you and Brian were musical soulmates. What does that mean? How did that happen?" Felicia asked.
"Brian and I got close; we bonded over our love of music. We had shared ideas about what we wanted to accomplish in music; that's where and how the musical soulmate thing came about," Kat said.
"How did Mental Lapse come about?" Felicia asked.
"It started as a side project for Brian and myself. We needed more creative outlets since High-Performance Heart Attack was Hawley's band," Kat said.
"It is true the story that Brian's cousin gave you the band's name?" Felicia asked.
"Yes, it was," Kat said.
"How about introducing Brian to the works of William Blake?" Felicia asked.
"Yes, she did at my instigation," Kat said.
"Why do you say that?" Felicia asked.
"Brian was having trouble coming up with ideas, so I asked Candi what she was reading, she was reading William Blake and Brian borrowed it," Kat said.
"So, that is where it started," Felicia said.
"It's where his mind began to expand," Kat said.
"You worked your way up, locally got noticed, and by the time you graduated high school, you were signed and touring Europe. What was that like for you and Brian?" Felicia asked.
"An eye-opener, he saw crowds at those festivals, and it just fed him," Kat said.
"Was that the beginning of the end for you and Brian?" Felicia asked.
"At the time, I was too busy taking it all in. In retrospect, you're probably right. That is where Brian's attitude started to change. There were days I half expected him to declare himself the Lizard King. I was boring, so I didn't party, but Brian indulged. I think his biggest vice was women. At first, it was cute, I guess, he was single and in theory an adult, but he went through them like Tic-Tacs," Kat said.
"How, as a woman, did it make you feel?" Felicia asked.
"Nothing; at the time, I felt nothing. Two Soviet-era Eastern Europeans raised me; as long as they were legal, it wasn't my business," Kat said.
"Did you play The Netherlands during this tour?" Felicia asked.
"It was my first time in Europe, so everything stood out," Kat said.
"My parents promoted that show," Felicia said.
"Oh! Wow! Small world," Kat said.
"There was a picture of you and Brian taken at that show that became well known," Felicia said.
"Yes, there was," Kat said.
"Can you describe it?" Felicia asked.
"We were on stage, it was hot, as it was a daytime slot, we were wearing shorts, and I think I either had a muscle shirt on or a t-shirt with cut-off sleeves. We had a song where Brian also played guitar. Gabi took the picture of Brian and me smiling at each other from the wings from the wings," Kat said.
"What was your relationship with Gabi?" Felicia asked.
Kat shrugged, "Not much of one; she was just there," she said.
"What made you leave Mental Lapse, a band you helped create?" Felicia asked.
"Brian's behavior was getting tiring, and how he wanted to live in a harem with two women," Kat said.
"But you ignored his womanizing before," Felicia said.
"Trin and I are friends, and it was how he reacted when Trin rejected him," Kat said.
"When you left Mental Lapse, you left one thing behind, the before mentioned picture. What was the significance of that?" Felicia asked.
"I wanted Brian to be reminded of better times and a better version of himself," Kat said.
"So, you and Brian parted ways and had no contact, then three years ago you did the Scott, Hartmann, and Jared tour, why?" Felicia asked.
"Out of the blue, Brian contacted me about doing a few dates, have fun like old times and help bust his flagging career," kat said.
"So, why did you also also do the tour with Arne?" Felicia asked.
"I felt I owed Brian for helping me break into the music business. Why include Arne? We discussed it, and he felt more comfortable if he was included," Kat said.
"Why did the tour fail?" Felicia asked.
"Brian was fine early on, then whatever daemon was inside him was awakened. Not so many women this time but trashing hotel rooms and drugs," Kat said.
"I have to ask this, and I'm sorry, were you and Brian ever intimate?" Felicia asked.
"No," Kat said, "Brian seemed to have a type."
"Anything else you want to say?" Felicia asked.
"Just this; Such wilt thou be to me, who must, Like th' other foot, obliquely run; Thy firmness makes my circle just, And makes me end where I begun," Kat said.
"Very profound," Felicia said.
"Thank you," Kat said.
"You're welcome," Felicia said and shut off the camera.
