For Him

This goes hand in hand with 'Worth It', my first fic ever.

She wondered why she still hung around with him. Hearing Kankuro taunt her about going out with a child grated her nerves so much, that she nearly smashed Karasu in rage.

She didn't know what was so good about him. Sure, he had intelligence, he knew how to cook, he smelt of pines and wet grass, her favorite scent. But as far as looks went…

Of course, he wasn't ugly. But he wasn't Sasuke, or Neji, or even Gaara, her handsome younger brother. Shikamaru sported a strange hairstyle, and while she could hack it off herself, she didn't; she loved playing with it.

She hated his sexist remarks, and his catch-phrase ("How troublesome"), and he wasn't even talkative. Apparently, it was too much work. She stomped him flat for that.

She tried going out with other men who were strong, good-looking, and intelligent. But at the end of the date, when they would usually try to kiss her, she found herself wishing it was Shikamaru's thin lips, rather than full ones every other guys had.

Maybe it was because he was different from everyone else. Never did he try to get into her bed, never did he hit on her. He respected her as a woman.

"Going to see the child?" Kankuro taunted as she was about to leave for a trip to Konoha.

An hour later when Gaara returned from a grueling meeting, the first thing he saw was a broken Karasu, and a sobbing Kankuro.

Eh, didn't turn out how I wanted it to, but I like it :3
