Chapter 599: The Field House
Monday, March 6th, Afternoon
Everything broke up a long while ago, and she was one of the first out of the locker room. She waited for someone, and she couldn't hide, with her height approaching 6ft 3in tall and bright ginger red hair, so people knew something was up. She watched the locker room door, and waited to see who came out and if it was the person she was waiting for.
The door opened, and two young women walked out. One was short, around 5ft 2in tall, with brunette hair. The other was tall, 5ft 9in tall, blonde was with her. The two were chatting and then looked at the tall redhead.
"Brett," Kendall "Keni" Stafford said; she is the short brunette.
"Brett," Sawyer Scott said; she is the tall blonde.
"Sawyer, Keni," Brett Pierce-Burke said; she's the tall redhead.
"What's up?" Sawyer asked.
"I'd like to talk to Keni alone," Brett said.
"Sure, I'll be in the commons," Sawyer said and walked away.
"What's with her?" Brett asked.
"She's going through things," Keni said.
"Aren't we all?" Brett asked.
"So, what's this about? You don't want quality aunt and niece time, do you?" Keni asked.
"Would you stop saying that," Brett said.
"It's true," Keni said.
"Only because your sister married my dad?" Brett said.
"Yeah, well, it is what it is," Keni said, "What do you want to talk about? I don't think it's to talk about the chemtrails."
"Keni, I do need to talk to you about a conspiracy," Brett said.
"Oh! Which one?" Keni asked.
"The one where Garvan is making time with Felicia Watt and does anyone know," Brett said.
"I've not heard that one," Keni said.
"Well, I saw Garvan kissing Felicia in the halls last week," Brett said.
"I see; tell me more," Keni said.
"That's all I know, but it seems like it's been going on a while," Brett said.
"Well, from my understanding, Felicia doesn't take that long," Keni said.
"That's rather rude," Brett said.
"A spade is a spade, and the sky is blue," Keni said.
"Sometimes," Brett said.
"Sometimes?" Keni asked.
"Sometimes the sky is blue," Brett said.
"Okay," Keni said, "So, what are you asking?"
"Did you know about Garvan and Felicia?" Brett asked.
"Only what you told me," Keni said.
"I thought you cheerleaders liked to gossip," Brett said.
"Some do, but not me," Keni said.
"Sawyer?" Brett asked.
"Sometimes, but she's been distracted," Keni said.
"What's happening?" Brett asked.
"Gareth ended his friendship with Sawyer," Keni said.
"What? Gareth always simped for Sawyer," Brett said.
"Well, not anymore; I guess he tired of being friend zone," Keni said.
"So, back to my problem," Brett said.
"What about your problem?" Keni asked.
"Did you know?" Brett asked.
"I told you, Brett, I didn't. Wouldn't you think I would've told you if I did?" Keni said.
"You would've?" Brett asked.
"Yes, you know my mom, your grandma," Keni said; Brett cringed slightly at the statement.
"Yes, I do," Brett said.
"As much as it pains you to admit we're family and under the House of Davis, we have each other's back," Keni said.
"Where does that come from?" Brett asked.
"Her history," Keni said.
"So, you truly knew nothing?" Brett asked.
"No, I didn't, but I've tuned out most of the static involving Felicia, so it's possible someone else would," Keni said.
"Thank you, Keni," Brett said.
"For what?" Keni asked.
"For being honest with me," Brett said.
"You're family," Keni said.
Brett nodded, "Family, that's a funny thing," she said.
"How so?" Keni asked.
"I have two of them, and they are different," Brett said.
"I have four sisters and a brother, and I only share a single parent with any of them; a family has no definition," Keni said.
"Yeah," Brett said.
"Sawyer and I consider ourselves family," Keni said.
"You are family," Brett said, "Your sister is married to her brother."
"We were family before that," Keni said.
Brett nodded.
"Don't worry, things will work themselves out," Keni said.
"How do you know?" Brett asked.
"Just a feeling," Keni said.
"You've always had these feelings," Brett said.
Keni shrugged, "The doors of perception," she said.
"Are you reading Blake too?" Brett asked.
"No, I'm more into Huxley; his observations make things so clear," Keni said.
"I see," Brett said.
"Open your eyes, and you will," Keni said.
"What?" Brett asked.
"I have to go meet Sawyer," Keni said and walked away. Brett nodded and looked at Keni as she walked towards the commons.
