Vic was happy, she was definitely happy, she'd told Lucas this wasn't just sex for her and it wasn't for him either, that between them was going somewhere.
" Why are you smiling? Travis asked."
Vic hadn't realized she was smiling until she was snapped out of her thoughts by Travis.
"Does this have anything to do with your naked friend?"
"What?" Vic's eyes widened.
"You know, the chief," he said the last part in a whisper.
"I know Travis, it's just that I think this is working out, I mean we admit it's not just sex." She gave a shy smile.
"Oh my god you're in love."
"I don't know…I…I think so."
"Sorry but did that move?" he said pointing to a black bag that was in the middle of the reception.
"What? No." the moment she turned to look at something moved inside the bag.
"Should we call animal control?"
"No." Vic crouched down and unzipped it revealing an adorable little baby with a pair of blue eyes staring back at her. "Oh Travis"
Vic picked up the baby carefully while Travis grabbed some gloves to examine him. At that moment Lucas entered the reception.
"Wow is that?* He asked confused as he looked at the baby on his girlfriend's lap.
"A baby sir." Travis finished the sentence for him.
"We don't get many." he said smiling at the baby on Vic's lap. "Hey." The baby stretched out his little arm to Lucas and Vic looked at him with sparkling eyes, seeing Lucas with a baby awakened something inside her.A van had crashed into the station 19, half of the wall had collapsed, no one was hurt except the woman inside the van, luckily her daughter managed to get help in time.
That wasn't the problem, Lucas was weird, she tried to talk to him several times and he ignored her, Vic thought he was upset about something work related but when she finally got through to him.
He said she shouldn't inform everyone of everything, Vic didn't understand what he had said, she hadn't done anything why he was so upset?
Vic went to her room and quickly texted Lucas to meet her there.
She impatiently paced back and forth, she needed to know what had happened why he was like this with her.
Lucas entered the room several minutes later, Vic was starting to lose hope. He closed the door behind him keeping his eyes on the floor without at her.
"Why are you upset? I did something?"
Lucas sighed heavily before answering.
"You told Montgomery."
"Yes…hum…he's my best friend." Vic couldn't believe he was upset with her over this.
"You can't tell people at Station Victoria." He raised his voice.
"I don't have friends outside of the station and I trust him." Vic yelled back.
"Does anyone else know?"
" Gibson." she muttered.
"Damn Vic." He rubbed his beard visibly annoyed.
"Why are you acting like this? Like you're ashamed of me?" Vic blinked several times to push back the tears that were trying to fall from her eyes. "We didn't do anything wrong."
"We broke the rules."
"The rules you created?" She replied upset, in a few seconds the sadness had given way to anger.
"I can't break the rules for myself, I can't break the rules for you Victoria."
"They are my friends." she yelled angrily.
"They are my subordinates."
"As your subordinate I say this conversation needs to end."
"I'm leaving before I say something I regret."
He left, he opened the door and left without even looking back. Vic sat down on the bed and once she was alone she allowed herself to cry, several tears rolling freely down her cheeks, she buried her head in her hands to stop the sobs. Vic knew dating Lucas wasn't going to be easy because of their positions, but she didn't know it would be that hard.Vic was a little better, she had stopped crying but she was still sad, she had seen Lucas a few more times but he didn't look at her once.
She was sitting at the reception when Travis walked in holding the baby.
"Hey Vic could you hold him?" Travis studied her face, she was clearly thinking about something else. "Vic?"
"Um...yes of course, I'm sorry." Vic took the baby from his lap.
"Everything is okay?" he asked frowning.
" No, it's not, Lucas and I fought because I told you." she said in a tearful voice.
"Oh Vic, I'm sorry, it's going to be okay, I'm sure, he just needs to calm down." He squeezed her hand affectionately.
"Thanks." Vic forced a smile and Travis walked back to the beanery.
She held the baby in her lap trying to think of something other than the fight. The baby's eyes started to close, he was getting sleepy but seemed to be fighting it because he started crying.
"Shhhh, don't cry please." Vic cradled him gently in her arms but it didn't seem to be helping until she remembered her childhood song.
I'm a little teapot
Short and stout.
Here is my handle,
Here is my spout.
Vic sang softly as she continued rocking the baby who quickly calmed down.
Lucas, who was passing in the reception at the time, stopped at the side of the stairs so she couldn't see him but he stood there watching her sing to the little baby. Lucas' heart broke when he heard Vic's tearful voice and he saw in her face that she was clearly suffering from the fight but he was still upset with her, yet in that moment he was sure he wanted Victoria Hughes as the mother of his children. Vic was terribly sick, her nose was stuffy and running, her eyes were burning and watering , and to get better she was still upset with Lucas and hadn't talked to him in two days, Vic missed him but was too proud to call him.
But spending a few hours in the pouring rain delivering a baby wasn't going to improve her cold it was going to make it worse. Lucas was there when her team arrived, he was the first to jump off the truck and go to her, Vic could tell from his voice and the way he ran to her that he was worried.
She couldn't remember the rest, her head was throbbing too much for that, but she heard the sound of the shower, she opened one eye and looked at the clock that said midnight and then she remembered coming home with Lucas in the aid car and him saying that he didn't want to leave, but the most important he told her that he loved her, Vic was so happy.
Lucas opened the door and walked out of the bathroom wearing his pajamas.
"Hey, you're awake."
"Hum..." she just mumbled.
"How are you feeling?" Lucas sat on the edge of the bed next to her.
" Terrible." She replied coughing.
"Your temperature is still high." He said placing a hand on her forehead. "Take off your robe."
"As much as I wanted to have sex with you, I can barely breathe." she said, sniffling.
"Vic." Lucas let out a laugh. "It's to lower your fever"
Vic took off her robe and threw it on the bottom of the bed, leaving only a blouse and her panties on, Lucas climbed on the other side of the bed and pulled her to lie on his chest, Vic kept coughing and sniffling, so he rubbed her back gently with a hand while the other rested on her waist.
"Do you want me to sing the teapot song for you?"
"How did you?..." She lifted her head to look at him.
"I heard you singing to the baby, it was adorable." He smiled caressing her cheek
"Aren't you upset with me anymore?"
"Of course not Victoria, now go to sleep you'll feel better when you wake up." Vic laid her head back on Lucas's chest and he pressed a kiss to her forehead. "I love you."
Vic smiled, she found out that Lucas saying he loved her was her new favorite thing.
"I love you too." she replied almost asleep and Lucas held her tighter in his arms and pressed more soft kisses to her forehead.
