Chapter 616: Bobbi-Lee's Cottage
Thursday, March 9th, Afternoon
(Song lyrics in italics)
The afternoon sun hung progressively lower and lower in the sky. She parked her car on the street and got out of the car. The person she wanted to visit was home and looked like they had company. Shaking her head, she started walking down the front walk to the small cottage.
Brett paused before the stoop. She looked around the cottage and saw a few lights on. Brett sighed, stepped onto the stoop, and knocked on the door. After a long moment, the door opened, and Jackie Gregory stood at the door.
"Brett, how are you?" Jackie asked.
"I'm doing okay, I guess. Is my Aunt Bobbi in?" Brett asked.
Jackie nodded, "Yeah, in the kitchen, let me check," she said, "Bobbi!"
"What?" another woman's voice called back.
"Brett's here asking after you," Jackie said.
"Let her in; I'll be with you in a sec," the voice called back.
"Alright," Jackie said, turning to Brett, "You heard her."
"Thanks, Jackie," Brett said.
I don't like your little games
Don't like your tilted stage
The role you made me play of the fool
No, I don't like you
I don't like your perfect crime
How you laugh when you lie
You said the gun was mine
Isn't cool, no, I don't like you (oh!)
Jackie stepped aside, and Brett stepped inside. The great room was part of an open floor plan. Brett looked up to the loft where her Aunt Bobbi worked. Slowly, Brett found a place on the couch next to a big lazy blue and white bi-colored cat. Brett reached over and petted the cat.
"Meow!" the cat said.
"Missed you too, Custis," Brett said.
A tall, ginger redhead, drying her hands, appeared out of the kitchen. Jackie sat in an upholstered chair; Brett looked at the redhead and forced a smile.
"Brett, what do I owe the pleasure?" Bobbi-Lee Burke asked Brett's paternal aunt.
"I wanted to hang out with my cool aunt," Brett said.
"Yeah," Bobbi-Lee said and sat down on the nearby love seat, "So, what's bothering you?"
"What makes you ask something is bothering me?" Brett asked.
"I know you and that fake smile of yours," Bobbi-Lee said.
Brett released her forced smile and sighed, "Yeah, something is bothering me," Brett said.
Bobbi-Lee nodded, "So, what is bothering you that you had to come all the way out here to talk to your Aunt Bobbi?" she asked.
"Well, I was walking through the high school hall…." Brett started to say.
"I remember and miss those days," Jackie said.
Bobbi-Lee looked over to Jackie and gave her a look. Finally, Bobbi-Lee turned back to Brett. "Go on," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Basically, I saw Garvan kissing another girl," Brett said.
But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time
Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time
I got a list of names, and yours is in red, underlined
I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!
"I see," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Are you sure?" Jackie asked.
"Yes, I am," Brett said.
"Did you confirm it?" Jackie asked.
"I've been doing my best to," Brett said.
"Good, find out, and well, get rid of him," Jackie said.
"Why did you come and talk to me about this, not your Momma or Momma Chase?" Bobbi-Lee asked.
Brett nodded and sighed. "I've been told to talk to you about this," she said.
"Why me?" Bobbi-Lee asked.
"Because you're reputed to have taken some action against a cheating boyfriend," Brett said.
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me...
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do
"I see; what did you hear?" Bobbi-Lee asked.
"Nothing specific, but I heard the terms, Carrie and Miranda," Brett said.
"I see," Bobbi-Lee said.
Jackie smiled, "Yeah," she said, "Bobbi-Lee shot Jackie a look then turned back to Brett.
"You've not heard those terms?" Brett asked.
Bobbi-Lee shook her head, "No, I've heard the terms," she said.
"Why are you so silent about it?" Brett asked.
I (I) don't (don't) like your kingdom keys (keys)
They (they) once belonged to me (me)
You (you) asked me for a place to sleep
Locked me out and threw a feast (what?)
The world moves on, another day another drama, drama
But not for me, not for me, all I think about is karma
And then the world moves on, but one thing's for sure
Maybe I got mine, but you'll all get yours
"Thinking," Bobbi-Lee said.
"About?" Brett asked.
"A story that needs to die," Bobbi-Lee said.
"What story is that?" Brett asked.
"How a cheating boyfriend had his truck wrecked in the parking lot of Club TRIC," Bobbi-Lee said.
"I see," Brett said.
"Just remember when heading out on vengeance, dig two graves," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Also, confirm it is happening, or you're the asshole," Jackie said.
"Okay, but what is a Miranda and a Carrie?" Brett asked.
But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time (nick of time)
Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time (I do it all the time)
I got a list of names, and yours is in red, underlined
I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me...
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do
"Never pull a Miranda," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Why?" Jackie and Brett asked in unison.
"You have too much going for you," Bobbi-Lee said.
"What do you mean?" Brett asked.
"You're almost out of high school, you have a free ride to Norte Dame, you have the chance to play professional basketball, don't screw up your life," Bobbi-Lee said.
Brett nodded.
I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams
I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams
I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams
I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams
I'm sorry
But the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now
Why? Oh, 'cause she's dead (oh)
"Maybe, a Lindsey?" Jackie asked.
"Maybe, she needs to not screw up her life," Bobbi-Lee said.
"But she's probably being humiliated by her cheating boyfriend," Jackie said.
"It's high school; it won't matter," Bobbi-Lee said.
"I want to make sure he's taken care of," Brett said.
Bobbi-Lee nodded, "Well, make sure he is cheating on you," she said.
"We'll be here for you, Brett," Jackie said.
"What will we do?" Brett asked.
"Confirm he is cheating," Jackie said.
"Also, after the championship game," Bobbi-Lee said.
"We'll talk then," Jackie said.
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me...
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do
A timer rang in the kitchen. "Dinner is ready; come join us, Brett," Bobbi-Lee said as she looked at Brett.
"Okay," Aunt Bobbi," Brett said.
The three women stood up and headed toward the kitchen
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me...
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do
