Chapter 618: Queens
Thursday, March 9th, Evening
He sat on the bed with several large cases nearby him. Looking towards the room's bathroom door, he drummed his fingers. Finally, he let out a sigh.
"Alix, we don't want to miss our ride; I do have to work," Tucker said.
"I'll be right out," Alix said, and Tucker nodded. The bathroom knob rattled as Alix opened the door and stepped out. Tucker's eyes grew wide as Alix wore a black pleated skirt, a red tank top, and black knee socks. "What do you think?" she asked.
"Are you dressed to fill someone's fantasy?" Tucker asked.
Alix shrugged, "This was one of my stage outfits for Tacit Blue; Katrina wanted me to wear it tonight," she said.
"That's right, you're doing a duet tonight," Tucker said.
"Again, Katrina's idea," Alix said, "I wore this only once for one song and video." She flopped onto the bed and started to pull on her shoes.
"Keds, I figure you for Doc Martens," Tucker said.
"I'm not killing my feet," Alix said, got up, and grabbed her coat and a small backpack.
"What about the cases?" Tucker asked.
Alix shook her head, "No, I'm done with them," she said.
Tucker nodded, "Ready?" he asked.
Alix nodded, "Yeah, let's go," she said. She noted Tucker was dressed to work in a jumpsuit that looked right out of Ghost Busters.
The young couple went downstairs and joined the last of the people in the van. They headed towards the venue. The bus would meet them there after the show. Alix curled up in the corner of the seat and hugged herself in her winter jacket. She wondered what her Babushka would say of what they were doing and them performing together. Her Babushka loved being a US Citizen, but her heart was always in Nizhny Novgorod. Babushka was a strong woman, but her heart was broken by the actions that took place involving her homeland.
As Alix hugged herself, she reached into her jacket and found her Welsh Dragon Charm. She was merely days old when her mom died, a painful way to die as well, complications from giving birth to her. Her dad disappeared soon after that; it has almost always been Opa, Babushka, Katrina, and herself. Now it was just Opa, Katrina, and herself. Opa once commented how Alix and Katrina both looked like their mom. Alix once looked at a picture of her mom and agreed.
"Do you know what song you're duetting on?" Tucker asked.
"What?" Alix said, shaken from her thoughts.
"Do you know what song you're duetting on?" Tucker asked again.
"We're doing what we call her song," Alix said.
"Her song?" Tucker asked.
"Yeah, it's a song Babushka taught us," Alix said.
"I see," Tucker said, "So, everything will be PG13 with your outfit?"
"Yeah, I have bike shorts on underneath," Alix said.
"Why would she ask for you to wear that outfit?" Tucker asked.
"I blame Casey," Alix said, "He always likes this outfit."
"Yeah, sounds like him," Tucker said.
"I think it contrasts what Katrina wears," Alix said.
"I always wondered, why do you always call her Katrina?" Tucker asked.
"Always have, and she knows I'm teasing her or mad when I use a nickname," Alix said.
Tucker nodded and looked out the window; Alix closed her eyes and leaned back. She pressed her chin into her chest and just took in the rest of the ride. The tires on the road sang Alix a song.
Finally, they arrived at the venue, and everyone piled out. Tucker kissed Alix and went about getting ready to film the show tonight. Alix nodded and headed towards the dressing rooms. She found the dressing room and knocked on the door.
"Come in," someone said.
Alix opened the door and found most of Nordwind in the room. She looked around and focused on the guitarist, Dallas Barnes.
"Where's Katrina?" Alix asked.
"Next door, she has her own space," Dallas said.
"It must be nice," Alix said.
"You'll get there someday," Dallas said.
"Thanks," Alix said and left the dressing room. She walked over to the next door and knocked.
"Yes?" Kat's voice called out.
"It's me, Katrina," Alix said.
"Come in," Kat said.
Alix opened the door and stepped in. Once the door closed behind her, Alix looked around. Kat sat at a dressing table doing her makeup. Alix sighed and saw a platter of food.
Katrina turned towards Alix. "Thanks for doing this," Kat said.
"You're welcome," Alix said.
"If you want, eat," Kat said.
Alix nodded, "Thanks," she said, put her bag down, and slipped off her jacket. Alix sat down in a chair, looking in the mirror. Standing back up, she started going through her bag. Alix returned to the table and spread out her stuff.
"Why did you pick this outfit?" Alix asked as she started to look for particular makeup.
"That was Arne's idea," Kat said.
"Arne?" Alix asked.
"Yeah, he thought you in that outfit looked like a dark and twisted fantasy," Kat said.
"I see," Alix said, "Are we doing your song?"
"I'm thinking something different," Kat said, got up, and stood behind her sister. Kat leaned forward and whispered in her ear.
Once Kat stood up and looked in the mirror. Alix glanced at Kat. "Really? That song?" Alix asked.
Kat nodded, "Yeah," Kat said.
"I've not sung it in a while," Alix said.
"I know you can do it," Kat said.
"Okay," Alix said.
"Eat, and we'll talk more," Kat said.
"Okay," Alix said.
"Also, I think you should go full goth," Kat said.
"I usually do when I wear this outfit," Alix said, "That one time."
"Good," Kat said and returned to her seat. Alix nodded, got up, and went to the platter. Alix poked at it for a minute or two, then picked a few pieces of food. She returned to the table and started to eat.
