Chapter 622: Reynolds Coliseum
Saturday, March 11th, Afternoon
The couple walked down the stairs to the row where their seats were. The woman leading the group looked down at the court, and her mind reflected on when she and her husband were in high school, he played on this court, and she cheered him on from the baseline. Once their row was located, they slid down the row to find their seats.
Upon finding their seats, she removed her sunglasses, a pair of Chastity Davis Specials and slipped them into her jacket pocket. Chastity "Chase" Burke unzipped her jacket and slid it off. Under the jacket, Chase wore a black t-shirt with white letters with a blue outline that said, "Proud mom of a Tree Hill Raven" Chase looked over to her left and smiled at her husband.
J.L. "Huck" Burke adjusted himself in his seat and looked down at the court. Sixteen years ago, he helped win a state championship on this court, but it wasn't his last time playing here, as he played several games in college. Now he got comfortable, getting ready to watch his oldest daughter play her final high school game. He stretched out, and his black t-shirt pulled tight across his chest. It had white letters outlined in blue, which said, "Proud dad of a Tree Hill Raven."
A person came up and sat down next to Chase. This woman pushed her dark brunette hair out of her eyes. Brooke Davis smiled at her oldest daughter. Surprisingly Brooke wore a black blouse and got comfortable in her seat.
"What took you so long?" Chase asked.
"Had to find parking space, and was on the opposite side of the building," Brooke said.
"Yeah, so, couldn't you wear a t-shirt?" Chase asked.
"I'm not wearing a t-shirt that says I'm a grandma," Brooke said.
"Well, you are; you have eight of them," Chase said.
"You don't have to broadcast it," Brooke said.
"Well, you are, and you have eight grandchildren," Chase said.
"So far, I didn't realize I'm tied with Queen Elizabeth; maybe I should get on someone's back about getting me another one, so I can beat her," Brooke said, "Anyway, you don't have to broadcast; I'm a grandma."
"Don't start sounding like Victoria," Chase said.
"Please, don't say that," Brooke said, "And you're not that proud."
"Why do you say that?" Chase asked.
"You don't have Brett's number on your shirt," Brooke said.
"I'm probably going to have at least one more playing basketball, so I don't want to hurt a child," Chase said.
"You tell her," a tall ginger redhead said as she came to her seat behind Chase.
"Hi, Bobbi," Chase said.
"Bobbi," Brooke said.
"What did I miss?" Bobbi-Lee Burke, Huck's older sister, asked. She also wore a black t-shirt.
"Just Chase and I are teasing each other," Brooke said.
"So, the usual," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Yes, the usual," Chase said.
"Is Izzy in town?" Bobbi-Lee asked.
"Yeah, but she'll be sitting with the Scotts," Chase said.
"Ah!" Bobbi-Lee said.
"Yeah, she wants to spend time with her in-laws," Chase said.
"Oh, yeah," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Is Kelly joining us?" Brooke asked.
"Yeah, she needed to wait for the babysitter," Huck said.
"It wouldn't be the same without her," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Yeah, she was on the last undefeated team," Chase said.
"Yeah, god! Hard to believe Brett is seventeen; it seems like just yesterday she was this red ball of fury," Bobbi-Lee said.
"That was yesterday," an older man said and sat next to huck. Huck looked him over and gave a curt nod.
"Mister Pierce, how are you doing?" Huck asked.
"I'm doing well," Ashley Buckingham "Buck," Pierce IV said, Ashlyn Pierce-Scott's dad.
"So, you came," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Yes, why wouldn't I come? My daughter is coaching, and my granddaughter is playing," Buck said.
Huck snorted.
"Do you have something to say, James?" Buck said.
"No, Sir, I don't, not in polite company," Huck said.
"Do you have an issue with me, James?" Buck asked.
"Mister Pierce," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Yes, Bobbi-Lee?" Buck asked.
"We all have an issue with you," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Why do you have an issue with me?" Buck asked.
"How you treat not just Ashlyn but also how you treated Brett," Bobbi-Lee said.
"That wasn't my idea," Buck said.
"I was only following orders is not a defense," Bobbi-Lee said.
"What isn't it a defense for?" Kelly McMichael, Huck and Bobbi-Lee's baby sister, said, sitting next to Bobbi-Lee.
"Buck and how he treated everyone," Bobbi-Lee said.
"Oh, well, yeah, but can't we just watch the game?" Kelly asked.
"I think we can all be civil," Chase said.
"Hey, Chase," Kelly said.
"Kelly, how was your drive up?" Chase asked.
"It was okay, and I'm sorry, but Andrew got called to the port again and had to wait for a babysitter," Kelly said.
"Oh, that sucks. Is Kayla coming?" Chase asked.
"Yes, but she couldn't get tickets with us," Kelly said.
"Oh, wow!" Chase said.
"Yeah, she's going to be sitting with the Scotts," Kelly said.
"Good, at least she could make it," Chase said.
"Yeah," Kelly said.
"Can you see your sister?" Brooke asked.
"Which one?" Chase asked.
"The congresswoman," Brooke said.
"Yeah, she's sitting with the Scotts," Chase said.
Brooke nodded and looked across the stands where the Tree Hill fans were sitting. The crowd was taking a distinctive black swatch across the stands. Brooke nodded; now she understood why Chase told her to wear a black shirt.
