District 2
Lana swung her sword down and her opponent blocked it with a clash. The girl then advanced, her blonde hair flowing around her like a cloak. Taking a breath, she advanced in a series of blows. Sometimes they met the metal of the others sword, other times they slid against the bare skin, causing red to leak from her opponent; their teeth gritting tighter each time as their brown hair swung in its ponytail.
The brunette then let out a soft growl and took a jump back before lunging forth with their sword angled right towards her neck. Without missing a beat, she pulled her shield up to block the on-coming blow. Clang. She danced around them in a flash, now facing their back. Quick as a whisper, her blade cut cleanly through her opponents neck. The head landed with a wet, heavy thud as it rolled across the stone ground, leaving a trail of red liquid that was quickly absorbed into the finely grated floor.
"Good fight." She muttered, turning to the head. Calmly, she picked it up and repressed a shudder. She hated how warm these things felt. 'They get points for realism at least.' The teen mused. Although this ones came off entirely too easily; being beheaded a few thousand times would do that to you. Walking across the padded room, she carefully placed the head back on with both hands. A faint click could be heard before the android gave an audible blink as its systems reconnected. She barely had time to breathe before she felt the press of a cool blade through her shirt.
"I win." The android commented, an empty smile across their pale.
"The next battle had not started yet. You were just reset." She informed them quietly. This happened occasionally. She didn't think it was the robots fault exactly, it was just getting old. Raging at them would do nothing.
They paused, processing her words. "Understood. Battle restarting in-"
"Um, wait I don't-"
"-two, one." They finished, lunging forwards with their sword. Biting back an annoyed sigh, Lana sidestepped them and slammed her shield into their back, her sword spearing through its back as they fell.
…
The training arena was shaped almost like a hive, with each room stacked on top of one and divided into sections by white lines. The sections usually only had enemies with certain weapons, such as swords, spears or axes. There was not an elevator in the training room. The stairs served the dual purpose of saving power and giving extra stamina training. Or for Lana, it gave her dodging practice as she had to avoid the other careers racing up and down the stations with their friends.
Aside from the sword android, she made sure to defeat one from each section. It took her around an hour and a half.
So sweat soaked and running on the buzzed feeling of endorphins, she walked out of the training room and into the larger area of what could be called the lobby. She let out a sigh as the cool air hit her in the face. She couldn't wait to go home and wash off this days training and begin anew tomorrow.
After collecting her bag back from the receptionist, she pulled out her water bottle and sipped from it, her eyes wandering around the room. The walls were a pale grey, with darker accents, decorated with photos and the metals of the former victors of previous games. 'And with skill I'll be joining them.' She thought, a smile flitting across her face.
Lana Garcia did not believe in luck, her parents did, but she did not. Luck did not rise Lana above her classmates, working for hours after school and even longer in the summertime did. Her hand drifted up to her left ear, feeling the shortened end. She was stronger now, strong enough to protect herself. She frowned slightly, her hand falling to her side. That was only until she found someone stronger. Lana had just turned to the receptionist to return her bag and go back into the training room, when a familiar voice called out to her.
"Well well well, if it isn't the workaholic." A smile crossing her face, Lana twisted towards the door.
"I'm not a workaholic. What gave you that idea?" She asked, moving towards her sister.
"Oh, you know, I dreamt about it." Becky replied with a roll of her eyes. Lana snorted and tugged open the door, soon following her sister onto the nicely paved street. The cold air was welcomed, although she should probably start wearing a coat.
"Shouldn't you be at home?" The younger of the two as they walked the familiar path down to their house. At this point, Lana could probably run it blindfolded.
"I'm hated by my own sister." Becky responded with a pout. "I can't even walk with her from training without her getting suspicious." Lana rolled her eyes, walking ahead of her sister. "Wait! I'm too slow!" Her sister called, running after her. Lana slowed down as they rounded a corner, letting Becky catch up.
''So, are you going to tell me, or will I have to make you run again?' Lana asked with a tilt of her head.
"I'll talk, anything but running." Becky added with a fake shiver. "It's nothing too much, Mom didn't want you stay too late, so she sent me to get you."
"Huh, do we have guests over?" She asked, close enough to now spot the large, trimmed trees of her house peeking out above the shops. Her sister made an 'I don't know noise' and they walked to the house in relative silence, taking in the sounds of the butcher promoting his latest deal, and the fruit vendor promising 'a fruit never seen before'. Eventually they made it to the paved stone path that led to their neighborhood. Two rows of similar looking houses flanking each side, with red brick walling and white window laces. They were only one story, but in Lana's opinion that was perfectly fine.
"Have you heard your ranking recently?" Becky asked, breaking the silence.
Lana shot her a confused look. "No, we're only told our ranking at the beginning of each month." She explained cautiously. "Why, did something happen?"
"Oh, no. Just wondering." Becky nudged her sister. Their house was now in sight, recognizable by the flower beds that grew out front. Lana felt her sister nudge her with a grin. "Race you to the door!" Becky challenger, before taking off.
"H-hey! Cheater!" Lana called. Pushing a weird feeling out of her mind, she raced after her sister.
sorry if it's short, I got a bit stuck on this one and just decided to put it out and move on. Lana Garcia is owned by LightRegina21.
