Chapter 636: In The Stands

Saturday, March 11th, Afternoon

In the stands, as the players left the court for halftime, the older woman looked at, the younger one next to her. The younger woman shrugged, then turned back to the court. After a moment, the younger woman turned back to the older woman.

"You can ask, Mom," Angela said.

"What did your niece say?" Karen asked.

"Which one? I have four," Angela said.

"You're being a wiseass again," Karen said.

"What do you want to know?" Angela asked.

"What Kay told you," Karen said.

"She wants to talk, maybe because we're playing on the same team again," Angela said.

"I'm more interested in what happened between her and Ivy," Karen said.

Angela shrugged, "She didn't say much; just Ivy didn't want to move away from her family, so Kay is pretty sure they're over," she said.

"Just like when she played in France," Karen said.

Angela shook her head, "Connie was a different person than Ivy. You know that," she said.

"You never cared for Connie," Karen said.

"I'm not a big fan of the Drakes," Angela said.

"You've had very little contact with the Drakes," Karen said.

"I've had my run-ins," Angela said.

"So, that's all; Ivy decided to stay in Chicago," Karen said.

"Yeah, just that she didn't want to leave her family," Angela said.

Karen nodded, "What did you think of the first half?" she asked.

"It was a defensive game," Angela said.

"A boring game," Karen said.

"Karen, that's not nice to say," Andy said.

"It's true, it's boring, and I sat through Angela's games where no one could score," Karen said.

Andy shrugged, "I don't think they've figured each other out," he said.

"Hopefully, it becomes more exciting in the second half," Karen said.

"Something will change," Andy said.

"Mom, look at it this way, if they can keep grinding at this pace, they win; I think that's what Lucas is doing," Angela said.

"It's still boring," Karen said.

"Excuse me," a husky female voice said. Angela looked up and saw her niece-in-law, US Representative Isabella "Izzy" Scott, D-NC, trying to slip by.

"Sorry, Izzy," Angela said.

"My fault I got here late," Izzy said as she took her seat, "How are they doing?"

"It's been a slow grinder of a game," Angela said.

Izzy nodded and pointed to the scoreboard, "I can see that," she said, "How's Brett doing?"

"As far as I've scored her with eight points, a rebound, an assist, a block, and a steal," Angela said.

Izzy nodded.

"It's been boring," Karen said.

"Not as boring as the event I just came from," Izzy said.

"What was it?" Andy asked.

Izzy shrugged, "I don't know, they all kind of blend together," she said.

"Izzy, I was hoping to see you," Haley said.

"What's up, Haley?" Izzy asked.

"Felicia Van Ankeren has a rough cut of her film she wants to show us," Haley said.

"She's done already?" Izzy asked.

"I guess so, and she'll be in Tree Hill Monday; I booked TRIC," Haley said.

"Are you sure you want to see it? It seems to be warts and all," Izzy said.

"It is what it is; I had made peace with it long ago," Haley said.

"What does your sister say, whatever doesn't kill us makes us stronger," Nathan said.

"Nietzsche," Izzy said, "That's so over-quoted."

"We tried to avoid Blake at all costs," Haley said.

Izzy nodded, "I get that," she said.

"So, will you be there?" Haley asked.

"Send the details to Skye, she has my calendar, and she'll coordinate with Winter. I might not stay for the whole thing, and I have to be in Washington Tuesday Morning," Izzy said.

"I don't think it should be that long," Haley said.

"Well, we lived through parts of it; I'm not sure I wanted to see it all again," Izzy said.

"Believe me, I know," Haley said.

Izzy nodded, "My guess is this movie isn't child friendly," she said.

"I'm leaving the grandkids home, I don't want them to, I don't know, it's about their parents, and they don't need to know their parents, and they don't need to know the load things until they're old enough to understand," Haley said.

"Speaking of, where are they?" Izzy asked.

"With their grandma Rachel," Nathan said.

"Okay," Izzy said.

"Angela, will you be there?" Haley asked.

"I guess," Angela said.

"That's a tacit commitment," Haley said.

"I'm not into looking at car wrecks," Angela said.

"I understand," Haley said.

"The halftime shows are about to begin," Karen said.

"Saved by the cheer," Angela said and laughed as they turned to watch the halftime show.
