A Badly Kept Secret

Since their arrival, Nyssa Seg-El and Seg-El himself, had bought a small town house in the city, near enough to be by as often as possible; Seg had gone to work for Oliver in his company, supervising new inventions, while Nyssa helped Laurel part-time in her law office - mainly just filing and answering phones. Kara and Clark had both managed to put together money for the two so they didn't have to work too hard to have a comfortable life on Earth. Today though, Nyssa and Seg had been helping babysit.

"Thank you, Nyssa," Rae said as she walked down the stairs with Nyssa and put Alister in the playpen. Nyssa had Bella and put her besides her sibling. "You've been really helpful since Ray's been on his honeymoon."

"Anytime. We love being with our great-grandbabies," Nyssa said.

"Speak for yourself," Seg muttered, sitting on the couch with a newspaper and pencil in his hand.

"Ignore him. He pretends to hate kids, but they melt him in two seconds when they sit on his lap and he starts telling them stories of the House of El," Nyssa said, having been through this with their kids and grandkids. "Any idea if we will be getting anymore?"

Rae laughed and went red. "We've been talking about how many kids we want. Kara doesn't want to carry again so next time we agreed I will. Clark has already said he is willing to help make us parents again," Rae told Nyssa, but wanted to move off the topic a bit; the two had not decided when. "How's Cora?"

"Claire now," Nyssa said. "She's getting her old identity back, but I doubt she will ever be fully healed. She's a new woman, essentially."

"I like these crossword puzzles," Seg interrupted the talk. "But some of these clues are impossible. Like this one. Friends character played by Matt LeBlanc. Four lett…."

"Joey," Rae interrupted Seg, who looked up at her. "J-O-E-Y."

"That works. Strange name. Thank you," Seg said. "How about…?"

Seg didn't finish his sentence before the doorbell rang. Rae pointing her finger at the door and heading to it as Nyssa sat on the armrest to look at Seg's puzzle.

"Ralph?" Rae asked as she answered the door finding the man on her doorstep weird. She only knew him from business and only under her superhero name.

"Flash," Ralph Dibny smirked back at her.

"Yeah I'm starting to think we should just announce that to the world," Rae bemoaned, rolling her eyes at yet another person knowing her identity. She had seen some people stare at her in public and figured it was starting to go around.

"Can I come in?" Ralph asked and Rae moved aside to let him into the house.

"So, are you here with the money you owe us for all those saves?" Rae asked as Ralph walked in.

"Not exactly," Ralph said. "And arrows with letters on them will not get me the money faster. The flaming one was not fun..." Kara sent arrows in the general direction of people who owed them money to remind them. She didn't actually hit them with the arrows, but it was usually enough to scare them into paying.

"What are you doing here then?" Rae asked, trying not to laugh at Ralph's reaction to the arrows.

"I got this… piece of cake job. An older couple, retiring, want to reconnect with their daughter they have not heard from for over 30 years," Ralph said.

"So, find the daughter and then pay us," Rae said, sitting on the arm rest of the couch noticing Nyssa and Seg's attention turned to them.

"I did find her. She's been dead for over 25 years," Ralph said.

"Sucks for the older couple, but just show them the death certificate," Rae said with a shrug.

"The thing is, the daughter had a daughter before she died," Ralph said.

"So, reach out to the daughter and see if she would meet with her grandparents," Rae said.

"That's what I am doing," Ralph said.

"What?" Rae asked.

"Sweetie, I think he's saying those are your grandparents," Nyssa said, having been paying attention to the conversation.

"No, my grandparents are dead," Rae said. "That's what…."

Ralph took out papers he had on him. "Richard and Emily Williams," Ralph said pointing at the photo. "Birth certificate for your mom. Marriage certificate of your parents and your birth certificate. By the way Flash, I like the name Rachel."

"If you call me Rachel again the next arrow with a message for payment will hit your arm," Rae said, taking all the papers, finding it a bit creepy Ralph had gotten copies of them. She couldn't deny the proof though.

"So, should I arrange for you to go meet them?" Ralph asked.

"Get out of my house," Rae said to him, not ready to decide on meeting her grandparents. She needed to process this information. They were still by the entrance hall, so it was easy enough to get Ralph out of the door.

"Well here's…" Rae didn't let Ralph finish the sentence before slamming the door, but then she saw his arm stretch through the crack under the door, a business card in his hand. "My business card. Call me and let me know your answer," he spoke through the door.

"Ralph, you owe us money!" Rae snapped, taking the card and forcing the stretch out arm out by kicking it. "Do you think we don't know how to contact you." Her two kids were laughing at the interaction.

"This world mass of meta-human powers will continue to amaze me," Seg "Oh, come on this clue is just nonsense. He captured the Little Mermaid's heart."

"Eric," Rae mumbled as she looked at the documents Ralph had provided. She needed to call her father.

June Moone stood in the classroom, waiting for Luna's teacher. "Ms. Moone?" a woman said coming into the room. June knew Luna's teacher, Ms. Cameron - she was an older woman, but pleasant enough. "Thank you for coming. Is Luna's father joining?"

June couldn't help but give a laugh. "Sorry, but the idea of Barry coming to a parent- teacher conference..." June let the sentence rest, not able to picture it at all. "No, he won't be joining. I was surprised you wanted to see me. I thought Luna was doing well in school?"

"Please sit," Ms. Cameron said, pointing at a chair that June took. "I was really hoping Luna's father would join because this is sort of about him." June raised an eyebrow; Barry had never even set foot in this school. Every time he promised to do something like bring goodies for a bake sale, something always got in the way. "Just to confirm, his name is Barry Allen?"

"Yes," June said, knowing the teacher would have access to that. Barry was put on the Emergency Contact list, to get Luna should the need ever arise. "And is this him?" Ms. Cameron turned a phone around to face June. On the phone was a photo of Barry with Lena Luthor.

"Yes," June said, wondering what was happening. "I'm sorry where is this going? Barry's dating life has nothing to do with Luna in school."

"Recently we had a writing project. Each student had to describe members of their families in their own words. Luna choose you, her Aunts Rae and Kara, and her father." Ms. Cameron started.

"I'm guessing this is about what she wrote about Barry," June said. "Look Barry is an amazing person. He'd risk his life for a total stranger, but as a father… Well I don't want to say he's a dead-beat, because he tries his hardest to get child support to all his kids who need it, but he's not really fatherly."

"I think you need to read what Luna said," Ms. Cameron said taking out a paper and June nervously took it. What she read, though, was an absolute fiction: describing a perfect father who doted on Luna and didn't want any other kids because she was so special. "I don't get involved in my student's personal life but Barry Allen's been a topic of conversation for a lot of reasons lately and Luna's description did not line up with what I saw. I'm concerned for her."

"I'll talk to her," June said with a nod. "And tell her it's not right to lie on essays."

"That's good, but I am afraid I need to ask you more," Ms. Cameron said. "Normally I wouldn't ask this, but there have been rumors spreading about Barry and his sister Rae and her wife Kara. I wouldn't normally pry, but other students have started to talk and I got asked by a few parents. So, I am afraid I need to ask, is Barry Allen and his sister the Flash?"

June took a deep breath, opened her mouth, and then closed it, deciding how best to answer this question.

"Before you say anything, Luna did say in her essay about her Aunt Rae and Aunt Kara that they were multiverse tackers," Ms. Cameron added, handing the paper over to June. "That would line up to the Flash and Super Blue Arrow nicely." June gave a nervous laugh as she looked over Luna's essay on Rae and Kara. "I can see this made you uncomfortable and I understand if you can't really confirm if it's true, but I also need to know, does Luna have any powers?'

"No," June said right away. "No, she's a normal little girl." For the first time ever, June wished that wasn't true. If Barry, Rae, Jay, and Kara's secret did come out and it was looking like it was, Luna could be in danger. Having her own powers would give her some protection, at least.

"Very, well, I can't give Luna credit on her essay about Barry. It wasn't a fiction assignment but considering the words on her Aunts and you were true she will still pass the assignment," Ms. Cameron said. "Thank you for coming in." June got up to leave. "Just one more thing. Purely curiosity since there seems to be a lot of answers online. How many kids does Barry Allen have?"

June gave a real laugh at that. "That depends. He has five kids with four different women and one on the way with a fifth. Plus, Rae and Kara had kids using his sperm so that's eight overall including the one on the way," June said with a smile before leaving the room.

"I guess I'll see a lot more Luna's half siblings over the coming years..." Ms. Cameron muttered to herself in thought.

Kara stood in a STAR Labs on another world, on the phone with her Rae. "This is going to take a while," Kara said to Rae. "I'm on Blue Earth and we got the League of Assassins member, but Blue wants to arrest them here for the murder of his alternate. Our Earth though wants him back. I'm trying to keep this peaceful."

"Okay," Rae said back and Kara could tell by her voice there was something more. "I'll send over that information you want."

"Thanks, love, is there something else wrong?" Kara asked.

"Not more important than this," Rae said. "The information should be there soon."

"Thank you. Your alternate here is very intense. Her power is really… well not pretty," Kara said. "Give the kids a kiss for me." The two said goodbye and hung up, Kara seeing the Caitlin of this world bending over and kiss this Earth's' Rae on the cheek.

"Wait a minute, I thought Rae could not touch anyone," Kara pointed out of Blue Earth's Rae and Caitlin.

"And I thought you normally didn't use arrows," Rae said back.

"Point taken," Kara said.

"She can't," Caitlin said, before showing Kara device on her own arm. "We did discover she could touch her alternates, so I studied that and came up with this that allows Rachel to touch me for however long she wants."

"Good," Kara said ignoring the use of the full name. "And to your point I lost the majority my Kryptonian powers so trained in arrows." Rae gave a nod.

"Oliver?" Blue Rae asked at this.

"Bang on point," Kara nodded.

"Hey, information coming in," Cisco said from his spot at the computer.

Back on Bounty, Rae sat on the couch and took a breath.

"If you need someone to talk to, I'm right here," Nyssa said, sitting next to Rae. Rae had called her father but the answers weren't something he had; he had thought her grandparents were dead too.

"Thanks Nyssa," Rae said. "I…" Rae paused as her phone rang again. "June?" Rae answered.

"Can you come to the bakery? I need help baking a big order for a wedding, including a wedding cake," June said.

"Um… sure," Rae said hanging up. "Can you watch Alister and Bella again?" The two one-year-olds had been fed and put down for a nap already.

"Go, You've been here every day since your nanny went on vacation. Get some time to clear your head," Nyssa said and Rae gave her a smile and then ran out.

"Now what is the answer to this one?" Seg asked still looking at his crossword puzzle.

"You really should study up on this world's fictional characters before going for one of their quizzes," Nyssa remarked.

"True," Seg sighed. "Previously unknown fourth sister to charmed witches... five letters," Seg read aloud, frowning.

June barely looked up as Rae ran in. "Thanks for coming," June mumbled as she handed Rae the order and photos of what they had to do. "I might have gotten in over my head. Been getting a lot of business and orders lately."

"I've been stay-at-home mom since Ray went on his honeymoon," Rae remarked back, taking in what the order was for a moment before starting to grab the necessary ingredients. "Missing all the action too out in the multiverse. I need some time out to clear my head."

"What has been going on?" June asked, collecting some supplies herself - obviously not as fast as Rae.

"We got leads on everyone from the League of Assassins who escaped into the multiverse. Major jobs. Kara and Barry are working overtime on it and we even passed some off to Gypsy and Breacher," Rae explained as she started to mix ingredients. "Are the ovens pre-heated?"

"Of course. So, who does have Alister and Bella?" June asked as she started working.

"Kara's grandparents," Rae said. "Where's Luna?"

"Jessica has her," June said and Rae had to smile at the Barry's baby mamas helping each other out. "I had a parent-teacher conference today," Rae didn't say anything, only made a noise and nodded as she used her speed to make sure the cake mix she was mixing was perfect. "It was about Barry and you - sort of."

"What?" Rae aske, actually stopping what she was doing and looking directly at June.

"Luna wrote her English essays on her family. She lied about Barry - said he was an amazing father who only had one kid, namely her," June said and Rae tried not to laugh as she continued mixing. "And of course, the teacher had seen Barry with Lena on news and had to have a talk about lying on essays and I can't even figure out what to tell Luna. It's not wrong for her to want Barry to be a real dad, but she has to learn to accept that Barry's not that man."

"Not our Barry. Others are amazing dads," Rae said and saw the face. "Sorry."

"You know, I thought it was me at first, especially when he had two with Jessica. I thought maybe it was just he didn't want me. I learned quickly though that it's just he doesn't want a real family," June spoke, and Rae had to nod as she went to find the cake pans to use. "You grew up in an unusual family. I mean your dad married your aunt. How did you handle that in school?"

"I was home schooled," Rae said as she started greasing the pans to put the cake mix in. "Dad thought it was better with my powers. But in my opinion Luna is not a baby anymore. Just sit her down and tell her Barry not perfect but he is who he is and won't change." June gave a nod. "And it might help if you dated again. I mean when was the last time you had a relationship?"

"Um… well… Barry," June blushed, and Rae actually hit her head on a cabinet.

"Oh Junie," Rae said. "How can you expect Luna to be okay with Barry when it looks like you're still waiting for him to come back?" June had to nod at that as she continued working herself. "June, I'm serious. Find a guy and go on a date."

"You're right," June said as the two got the cake mix in the pans and put them in the ovens.

"Hey, wait, didn't you say I was mentioned in this conference?" Rae asked.

"Yeah, you do realize it's getting around that you and Barry are the Flash?" June asked. "It started online, tracking from yours and Kara's multiverse tracking business to the two of you. From there, they connected Barry, Jay, and Clark. They are even connecting Oliver and Laurel. It has hit TV shows in the last few weeks."

"I knew people were figuring it out, but didn't realize it was so far spread," Rae said, honestly shocked.

"And from Barry, his kids are getting connected," June said and Rae nodded. "Caitlin and Crystal can protect their children. Lena has the money to keep her unborn kid safe..." while the public still didn't know, Lena had decided to tell the rest of the family, including the baby mamas, that she was expecting. "And if anyone tried to touch Alister and Bella I am sure they would get an arrow to the throat," Rae tried not to laugh at that. "But me and Jessica are powerless and our kids are powerless."

"It's another issue on top of a crap load of issues showing up today," Rae said. "I'll add it to the list."

"Oh, something going on, Rae-Rae?" June asked.

"A tracker showed up at my doorstep today looking for me," Rae said, making June tilt her head. "Hired by my grandparents on my mom's side. Turns out they are not as dead as I was led to believe."

"Oh wow," June said. "And here I am complaining about my crap. What did you do?"

"Tossed Ralph out of my house," Rae said.

"Ralph?" June asked.

"Yeah I know him a bit," Rae said. "He owes us money, but anyway I called my dad and he was as shocked as me and I don't know what to do."

"Rae, let me give you some advice," June said. "This is a rare opportunity you have here. There's a piece of your biological mother there waiting to hear from you. A connection you thought you would never have. Don't throw it away so fast."

"Ah, thanks June," Rae said, putting an arm around June's shoulders giving her a hug for a moment. "But we have a lot more things to bake for this wedding."

"True," June said, the two heading back to work. "So, Lena? I think we owe you some money."

"True," Rae said with a smile. "Kind of appropriate Lena is the next baby mama. The Luthors were already family. Now they are just family by blood."

"Who's your favorite Barry baby mama?" June asked.

"Kara," Rae said with a laugh that caused June to toss some dough at her.

"Kara doesn't count," June said. "Besides her, who is your favorite?"

"I am so not answering that," Rae said with a laugh as she looked at the list of cookies the couple wanted available. "Thanks, though, I needed to just bake today."

"Like I said, this is one of many orders I have been getting lately. I have been thinking I might need to hire more help," June said. "And since you're still part-owner, anytime you need to bake just come here."

"Thanks," Rae nodded as she grabbed chocolate chips, "but go ahead and hire someone else too, I think we can afford it. Hey do you think connecting all of us to our superhero identities is the reason we're getting more business?" Rae asked, and June paused for a moment.

"Damn, you might be right," June said. "One good thing came from it then..." The two laughed as they continued.

-Bounty-

Rae didn't return home until it was late that night; Kara was sitting in the kitchen.

"I sent grandma and grandpa home," Kara explained, "and took care of the kids. What is that?" Kara pointed at the bag Rae was holding.

"Dessert. Me and June ended up baking more than the order required and we went out for dinner together," Rae said, putting the bag down and Kara didn't argue as she took one of the cookies. "Kara, we need to talk."

"Grandma told me you had issues you needed to talk about and I think I know what they are," Kara said and Rae waited to see if Kara did know. "Ray has been gone a week and not getting back until late next week; you have been great being stay at home mom with the twins, but when I was pregnant with them I had the itch wanting to get back out. I will take my turn. You can go on the next few tracks and I'll stay here."

"Kara, that not it. Well yes, I needed some time away, but I had a visitor today," Rae said, taking the business card which was right where she left it and showing Kara.

"Ralph Dibny? Did he bring the money he owes or do I need to send another arrow at him?" Kara asked.

"No, well… No money, not yet. I was his track," Rae said.

"What?" Kara asked.

"My grandparents hired him to find… well my mom, but found me," Rae said. "They're not dead and I just needed to clear my head on thoughts. And I have decided to meet them. I am going to call Ralph tomorrow and tell him to set up a meeting."

"If you want me there with you, I will be there," Kara said, taking Rae's hand.

"Thank you, but I think this is something I need to face alone," Rae said, leaning in and kissing Kara's cheek. "So, what happened with Blue?"

"Ah, well, after seeing the list of crimes he was wanted for and how many countries and all the evidence we have on him they agreed to let us imprison him as long as murder on their world was one of the charges. Since messing with the multiverse is a punishable offense on this Earth we agreed," Kara said, knowing Rae wanted to change the topic to this. "The list of missing League of Assassins members is still big but with me, Barry, and Gypsy going through, it it's getting shorter."

"Good," Rae said. "But there might be another issue we have." Kara waited. "Apparently our secret identities are being exposed. We're going to need to figure out how to deal with this and I think it's too late to put the cat back in the bag."

"Oh," Kara said. "I guess this was going to happen eventually. I think it might be time to put a fence around our house." Rae nodded her agreement. "And if anyone puts a finger on our kids they are getting an arrow to the eye."

"Hum. June said throat. Pretty close," Rae said and Kara had to laugh at that.

The next day Rae was sitting at a table in a restaurant. She stood up when she saw Ralph approaching with two older people she recognized from the picture Ralph provided.

"Emily. Richard, this is your granddaughter Rac…"

"No," Rae said knowing Ralph was about to use her full name.

"What am I supposed to call you if I can't use your name?" Ralph asked.

"It's Rae," Rae said. "Rachel Joan Garrick, yes, but everyone calls me Rae and I prefer that." Rae said to them. The three of them standing there for a moment before Richard put his arms around Rae in an awkward hug that Rae returned. Emily hugged her after.

"Thank you," Richard said, clearly to Ralph and took out a check. Ralph took with a smile and turned to leave but Rae grabbed his arm.

It extended though as he walked away. "Hey Elongated Man!" Rae yelled at him. "You still owe me and my wife money."

"Ugh, I'll transfer it to your account," Ralph said, and Rae let go of his hand. "Elongated Man... I like it." Rae heard him mumbled before he left.

"You know him?" Emily asked.

"We run in the same business circles," Rae said. "I'm a multiverse tracker." The two seemed to nod at that as they all took their seats.

"You have your mother's eyes," Richard said after the three had given a waiter an order for drinks and food. "Well, their shape. Her eyes were blue..."

"Thanks," Rae said. "I got to ask. Why did my father believe you dead? Why did my mom tell him that?"

"We and Joan had a difference of opinion," Emily said. "We had a big argument and she stormed out and that was the last we saw of her - it seems so unimportant now but back then I didn't even speak of her. I guess she felt the same. So much time lost over something so stupid..." Rae could hear true sadness in her voice and took her grandmother's hand.

"Tell us a bit about you. Did your father ever re-marry?" Richard asked and Rae got it. They wanted to know if she had a mother figure.

"He did. He married my aunt," Rae said and saw the faces. "It's sounds weirder than it is. My uncle, my dad's twin, died soon after my mom. My dad and Aunt Nora decided to live together and help each other raise their kids. After years together they fell in love. But yes, to answer the real question behind this question, Aunt Nora has been my mother figure for my whole life. The only woman I had."

"I'd like to meet her one day," Emily said as their drinks came.

"She has already said she wants to meet you," Rae said back. "And so does Barry, my brother, and my wife Kara," Rae tossed that in to see how they would react.

"We have a rather large house. We can get everyone together," Richard said and Rae had to smile into her drink as she took a sip. "Do you and your wife have any kids?"

"Two," Rae said. "Twins, Alister and Bella."

"And did you carry?" Emily asked.

"No, my wife did. Barry donated though, so they are related to me on my dad's side," Rae said, not always liking to explain this. Alister and Bella might be biologically Barry's kids but they were hers. These two deserved to know something so common everyone knew. "I think Kara said next time I carry, and her cousin donates."

"I'm pleased," Richard smiled at this.

With that, the three spent the rest of the meal chatting about their lives; Rae learning Richard had made a lot of money in insurance and recently retired. While Emily had been a housewife all her life, but been involved in various projects and clubs. The two asked her questions about the multiverse and her family.

When the meal was done, they hugged outside the restaurant to say goodbye. "Do you need a ride?" Richard asked, noticing Rae was walking away from the parking lot.

"Never do," Rae said ,giving the confused two a smirk before she just decided to run off - the secret was out anyway. What did it matter if someone saw her run?

Post Chapter Note: Yes, now Rae has grandparents here. Emily and Richard were such nice additions to New Justice I decided they deserved to be in more. Notice it's the only world so far where we have both Kara and Rae's grandparents together.
