Chapter 8, All For Something

I opened my eyes to see the ceiling and looked to my right to see the light creeping in from the blinds of the window. I rubbed my eyes and my instincts kicked in to check my Pipboy's clock. I turned to my left and looked over my bed to see my Pipboy wasn't there. I looked up and saw Elizabeth was awake, inspecting and fidgeting with it. She was already dressed and was just sitting on the bed. She immediately noticed I was awake, stopped fidgeting with it, and stared at me like she was guilty of a crime. I will admit, she looked kind of cute with her eyes being wide open and her face looking surprised.

"I…was just… curious about what you had on your arm," she stuttered, "I never got a chance to … ask what it was and it was just… lying there."

I sat myself up to meet her eyes. "It's fine, it's called a Pipboy and I got it for my 10th birthday in the vault."

"Oh," she replies, starting to fidget with the arm brace part as she tries to put it on.

"Since you got that, what time is it?"

Elizabeth flipped it over to look at the screen on what time it was. "It's 7:30, I was hoping to sleep in, but I had a nightmare so I've been up for a few minutes."

"Gotcha, may I have it," I asked.

"Sure," She replies, getting up to hand it to me, "I'm surprised it even has color in it. Must be really advanced."

I took it out of her hands, "Yeah I got it upgraded when I was on my way to New Vegas. Someone noticed it and said they knew of a way to upgrade the Pipboy to have more color in it."

"I see," she replied, walking back to her bed and sat down.

"Are you ready to head out," I asked.

"Yeah, though you should put some clothes on," she said pointing to me," I don't think you want to walk around with just your underwear."

I looked down quickly and realized, "Yeah, let me get my clothes on and we can head out."

I got out of bed and started to put my clothes on. Then, I fastened my Pipboy on my arm, put my backpack on, and was ready to go. Elizabeth got to the door first, opened it for me, I locked it behind us, and we headed out. The morning air was cool and would make it easier for us to travel back to The Strip. The way back was not as thrilling or exciting and we were silent most of the way back. However, as we got to the gate of Strip, there was something different when we came back. I noticed there were two people talking with the Securitron at the front of the gate. They were a man and a woman with ginger colored hair with the woman's hair tied around under a safari kind of hat. The man had a safari hat as well with a standard light brown jacket and light brown pants. Funny enough, the woman had the exact same clothes as well. They looked like twins pretty much. As we got closer, I could hear their voices better, but by then they were done talking with the Securitrons. As they were turning around, I could hear them talking to each other while walking away.

"Well, if one wants to have luxury, they must have a way to enter," the man said, with a British accent. Reminds me of someone in D.C.

"Quite right, though with luxury comes relaxation," the woman replied, with the same accent, but feminine.

"And relaxation comes with thoughts and thoughts can lead one down a hole they might regret," the man follows up with.

"And those thoughts can corrupt one over a period of time," The woman finishes.

I swear these two were so alike, they could finish their sentences so well. Though maybe they annoyed the Securitron and that's why they were told off.

"Chin up, we can always find another way in," the man states, walking away from the entrance to the Strip.

As they walked away, I turned around to look forward. "Well, that was weird."

As I said that, Elizabeth responds, "Was that…no it can't be…"

I turned to face her and she was still staring at them as they were walking away.

"What," I asked.

"Never mind, it's nothing," she diffuses walking forward.

I was puzzled with how she reacted, but I followed her and we went into the Strip. Those two fit the description a bit of the two people that Mr. House described that delivered the package. But, I doubt its them. They don't seem like the type to deliver a package like that. They look like simple tourists judging by their outfits. Though I do remember coming across some people in D.C. a while back that had British accents and strangely enough talked like them a bit. Don't remember the conversation fully, but it was something along the lines of constant or variables. With that in mind, we continued forward and made our way to the Lucky 38, went into the elevator, and I pushed the button to take us to Penthouse. As we were riding up, I noticed that Elizabeth was fidgeting with her right pinky again and her face was reading she was in deep thought.

"Did you know people like that before," I asked.

"What, " She said, snapping back to reality, "Oh yeah. I knew twins like that. They were the Lutece Twins or Robert and Rosalind. Really weird, vague people."

"Huh, did they create that device we escaped from Rapture in?"

"Funny enough, yes. They created that device. And those two kind of sounded and acted like them."

"I see."

Before we could continue, the elevator stopped and we were at the Penthouse level. We both walked out and made our way to Mr. House, who chimed in on our return.

"Ah, The foundation is laid. My Securitrons on the Strip are upgraded, and those at the Fort, ready for action. Now it's just a matter of adjusting the attitudes of some lesser groups while we wait for Caesar's Legion to attack Hoover Dam."

"So, what's next," I asked.

"The next step is to add the Boomers' considerable firepower to my growing arsenal... or at the very least, ensure their neutrality," he replied.

"Who are they," I questioned.

"They occupied Nellis Air Force Base a little over 50 years ago. One of my Securitrons got some video of their arrival - and then... exploded. Odds are they were Vault dwellers. That's everything I know about them, really."

"Ok, well I'll go see them then," I responded.

"Use extreme caution when approaching the base. Their firepower is... considerable. Recently, one of my roaming Securitrons observed a man near the base studying the pattern of its artillery fire. Maybe he's learned something," Mr. House stated.

"Ok, we'll check him out then."

"Oh and a few things. I had my Securitrons look into getting both of you some more clothes and underwear for the both of you. I had them calculate your measurements, so everything should be delivered right now to the suite."

I looked at Elizabeth for a moment and we both were taken away a bit by how nice it was, but also creepy that he knew our measurements for clothes.

"And I took the liberty to dig up that interview of that person who was from Rapture. I luckily had saved a copy in my endeavors of looking into Rapture and its existence. You should be able to play it through one of the TV's in the suite."

"We'll check it out then. Thank you," I replied, getting ready to head to the elevator.

As we both walked, I noticed Elizabeth was antsy to get back to the room. No doubt to watch that interview to confirm who it could be. Maybe it could even be one of the little sisters she mentioned or even Sally. As the door opened to the suite, I walked in and we were greeted with a bunch of boxes. I saw one with my name on it and one with Elizabeth's name on it. I also saw a DVD player. The DVD player looked like any other DVD player. On top of it was a disc in a case that had the tag, "Interview with Potential Rapture Survivor. November 15, 1983"

"I'll get my clothes into my room as well into your room. Do you think you could get that TV setup," I hear Elizabeth ask.

"Yeah."

I grabbed the DVD player, the disc, and took it into the recreational room. There was a TV on a dresser next to Pool Table. I set down the DVD player near the TV and pushed the pool table back as much as I could. I then grabbed two wood chairs and set them in front of the TV. I then got to work setting up the DVD player. I had to fidget around with it, but I was able to get the cords plugged in right. I then powered on the TV and the DVD player and it looked like everything was hooked in right considering I saw the words, "Insert Disc" on the screen.

"Ok, it's ready when you are," I shouted.

"Ok, I'll be right there," Elizabeth shouted in response.

I put in the Disc and I could hear her running over ready to watch. Based on how fast she ran in, she was ready. We both sat down in the chair and were met with the just the same words on the disc, but in a text form on the screen. It was just a static shot of a red sofa chair with a brown floral carpet underneath it. I then hear a voice begin talking.

"Hello, My name is Myles Bloom and I am here in Upstate New York with who we believe to be a survivor of the elusive Rapture." The man says, " I did not catch your name the first time I approached you, what is your name?"

"Sally, I'd rather not reveal my last name. And I apologize for responding like I did initially. I couldn't believe it when I saw it," the woman replied, sitting down in the chair with the legs of the table moving back on the wood, creaking.

Immediately, Elizabeth shouts, "She's alive! She got out of Rapture!"

Elizabeth started to have tears appear in her eyes. I'm nothing but happy for Elizabeth that there is some closure for her. That her death mattered and she was able to save Sally's life despite how awful Rapture became.

"Of course, please tell me. Why did seeing that painting invoke a strong emotional response from you," Myles asked.

Sally adjusted herself. She was wearing a blue long sleeve shirt that had a color go up to her neck. She was Caucasian and had light blue eyes and blonde hair.

"I knew the woman in that picture. Her name was Elizabeth. She helped myself and a few others in the end escape Rapture," Sally said.

"If you do not mind me asking, what happened to Elizabeth," Myles asked.

Sally paused for a moment, "She died. I held her hand as I saw her life leave her body."

"Oh, I'm… sorry for your loss and for what happened," Myles replied.

"It's ok. I just hope up there, she knows her sacrifice was not in vain."

"What was Rapture like? Was it similar to how you see things now?"

"I don't remember much of my time there. I was in an Orphanage called Little Sister's Orphanage. It was shut down and I was roaming the streets for days until I ran into someone named Booker Dewitt who fed me once, but I stuck around."

"How long did you stay with Booker?"

"Not too long, he went gambling one day and I was abducted and turned…into a little sister."

"A little sister? What is that?"

"I was genetically changed and mentally conditioned to get ADAM from corpses since ADAM is so valuable in rewriting genetics and how plasmids were created."

"I see," Myles replied with a subtle pause, "I'm assuming with how young you were, you do not know how it was created?"

"No, I think it came from slugs, but that's all I know."

"So, did Elizabeth and Booker come and save you?"

"Well, I believe so, but my time as a little sister, it was all…distant. Like I remember bits and parts, but I think the ADAM in me, made everything feel… dream-like."

"What do you mean by that," Myles questioned.

"It was like I was dreaming. I remember Booker reaching in the vent trying to grab me and he used the head of a doll I had, Sarah, I think her name was, to lure me out. But he stopped for some reason. Then, next thing I know, some guy named Atlas had me and was holding me hostage for Elizabeth to do something for him and Booker was dead. That is all I fully remember. "

"Huh, if you do not mind me asking, how did Elizabeth die? Did Atlas… kill her?"

Sally again looked down, trying to gather herself," Yes, with a wrench to the head."

"Dear god," Myles paused, "I hope Atlas got what was coming to him."

"He did," Sally replied, "he definitely did in the end."

"So, how did you get out?"

Sally adjusted herself in the chair and laid back, "Around a year later, a man named Jack came in and basically cleaned house. He helped save all of us and we lived under him for a while. Once we were old enough, we went our separate ways."

"Are you still in contact with anyone?"

"Not fully no. Jack I last heard a few years ago was in Pennsylvania near Manchester on a farm. The other girls and I don't really talk about our time there. It haunted us for years after, but we got through it in the end."

"I see, how are you doing now?"

Sally brushed her hair out of her face, "Well after I got out of high school and college, I met my husband soon after, William, and we got married three years later. I've brought this up with him a few times, but he's respected my privacy on this. We have a son now, Jack Jr., who is just starting elementary school."

"Wow, I'm glad things worked out for you in the end. I'm glad you were able to put this behind you. I do want to talk further about some of the objects we were able to uncover at Rapture."

Before he could continue, Elizabeth walked up and paused the footage.

"Sorry, but... I just need a minute," She says, shakily.

"You ok," I asked, getting up out of the chair.

"Yeah, I…I just…need a minute to take it all in."

Elizabeth started to fidget with her hands and started to shake her hands out, trying to process everything. Then, she walked up to me and flung her hands around me, giving me the biggest bear hug I have ever gotten, squeezing all the oxygen out of me.

"You have no idea how comforting this is to me to know," I heard her say, burying her head in my chest.

I could also hear subtle crying coming from my chest. I cannot relate at all to how Elizabeth feels right now. But, I know this for sure. Her death mattered. Sally got to have an education, get married, and have a son. All of that would not have been possible if Elizabeth had not intervened. And that I feel is part of what Elizabeth is feeling right now. Anything else, I'm not sure.

She pulls her head away and wipes her tears away, "Well, let's go talk to the Boomers. We can finish this later. I just wanted to see who it was and how they were doing."

I nodded my head in agreement and followed her to the elevator. As we were heading down, Elizabeth was moving around with a bit more energy than usual. Like she felt a burden lift off her shoulders after so long and she could finally be a bit more like herself. And part of me was looking forward to what that would be.

The elevator ding snapped me back to reality and we both walked out. Nellis Air Force Base is not too far from the Strip. Might be an hour long walk, but that is about it. Checking my Pipboy watch, it was only around noon. So we would roughly get there a little past 1. As we started to walk out, a woman in a lab coat approached us. She had short brown hair, glasses, gray eyes, wore a light brown buttoned up shirt under the lab coat, had a radio attached to the coat, and had pale white skin like she hadn't been out in the sun.

"Excuse me, but... are you the courier who caused all of that trouble in the Tops," She asks.

"Yeah, why," I replied.

"Oh… Great! The Followers of the Apocalypse, well some of us, anyway, have been interested in Mr. House's technology, how he stays alive. Of course, no one is allowed inside the Lucky 38, so no one knows what's going on. Well, except for you and your friend," she stated, pointing to the two of us.

"And this is where we come in?"

"Right. We just want to find out what sort of technology Mr. House has used to stay alive for all these years. It could be of great benefit to the people we try to help, many of whom suffer from hard to diagnose illnesses."

"I think we can do that."

"Here, take this packet sniffer. It will allow us to intercept data on Mr. House's network. You might have to manually remove the encryption from his data network, but hopefully you won't have too much trouble. Good luck," she replies, handing me the packet sniffer and then walking away.

It looked like a key from a keyboard, but it had a grove underneath it to attach to things. I put it in my bag and started to head out.

"Are you going to bug Mr. House's network," I hear Elizabeth ask.

"Well, why not? What he doesn't know won't hurt him. Besides, the Followers of the Apocalypse are not really bad people. They are trying their best to help around with what little resources they have. Mostly doctors and nurses," I respond.

"Yeah, and technically Mr. House agreed to let us make decisions that could benefit the wasteland," she replied.

"Yup, he sure did."

We continued walking North East to the airfield. The sunlight beat on our clothes and amplified how hot it felt as we made our way there. As we walked up the road, I saw a man jump down from the rocks and walk towards us quickly. He was wearing a green vest with a light blue long sleeve shirt underneath, a hat with goggles on it, light tan pants, and had dark skin color.

"Whoa there, pal. You better slow down, or you'll get blown up like the rest of the idiots who thought they'd scavenge in Boomer territory. Now that I've got your attention, might you be interested in a little information? It'll cost you, but it's well worth the investment," He greets us, with his booming voice..

"Thanks for the heads up. What's up with the signs," I asked.

"Oh lordy lordy, you haven't heard of the Boomers? What rock have you been living under? They're a bunch of artillery-slingin' grenade lobbin' odd-jobs camping out in Nellis. Wander into their territory and you're as good as mincemeat!"

"Hold on," I hear Elizabeth say, "They try to blow you up?"

"Yeah, why do you think they are called the Boomers," the man replies.

"Is there a way to get past them," I intervened.

"There is a way, and I'll tell you... for a little wager," he asks, folding his arms.

"A wager, what kind of wager?"

"Well, I know the secret to get past. If you give me the caps, I'll tell you."

"How much are you wanting," I asked, folding my arms as well.

"300."

"300 caps? You're shitting me right? Bump it down to 50 and I'll take you up on your info."

He thinks for a few seconds, " Alright, Okay. I need the caps so I'll take you up on the deal, but not a cap lower. I gotta make a living here. Okay, here you go," he says, handing me a piece of paper, "That page has the details, but it's all in the timing as you move from building to building. I'll be here watching, so I'll know if you've made it to the gate or not. Remember, I'll pay double your wager if you make it back."

I inspected the note.

The key to avoiding the artillery is to move from building-to-building up the northwest side of town toward the front gate. Stick to the high cover in the northeast corner of the two buildings, then make a bee line for the gate. The Boomers won't shoot at their own people, so stick to the fence until you make it to the gate. Also, I know there is an old train tunnel that enters the area from the south, but no one has ever come back out of there to say it is safe.

"Alright, let's get a move on then," I say, putting the note away.

As we walked up, I saw the first destroyed building we were supposed to walk to and before I could continue, I felt Elizabeth grab my hand.

I turned to face her, "Evan, are you sure we can trust this guy?"

"I don't know. But if Mr. House is right in this being the guy who's watched the bomb patterns, it's worth a shot," I acknowledged.

"But is it worth risking your life? I don't want to see you die for something stupid like this."

"Well, it wouldn't be the Mojave Wasteland if I didn't."

Elizabeth cracked a bit of a smile, "Ok, I'll be right behind you."

"Actually, stay here, it would be easier for them to hit something if we both go."

"What? What happens if you do get hit?"

"I won't, just stay here, hold my weapons for me and I'll get them to stop firing," I ordered, handing her my weapons.

I took a deep breath and started to sprint to the building. Already, I could hear a missile being fired into the sky and landing a few feet near me. I could feel the subtle heat of the blast, the wind of the shockwave, and the debris of rocks hitting near me. I shook it off, I kept sprinting forward and made it to the first building, as I waited for the missile barrage to stop firing. Once it did, I took a deep breath again and continued to sprint further to another building that was near that looked like the ruins of a gas station. I sprinted as hard as I possibly could, with the sounds of the missiles launching and hitting near me, and I was so close to making it into the gas station safely.

As I jumped in, a bomb was blown to my left and the shockwave was close enough to send me flying into the wall, hitting my back. All I could hear was the ringing in my ears, and felt the grogginess in my head as I tried to pull myself together. I tried to stand myself back up, but fell down in my attempt. I then heard footsteps running towards me as well as heard someone shouting my name. I felt hands go around me to pull myself up and shake me back to reality. As my vision started to return, it didn't surprise me that it was Elizabeth who came to my aide.

"Are you ok," she asks, looking around me for wounds.

"Yeah, just got knocked on my back and on my ass," I replied.

"Ok, I… just wanted to make sure you were ok," she says as she stands up.

"You could have been hit. I told you to stay," I snapped.

"Well, I'm glad I didn't. You might have just fallen asleep there and I wouldn't have known what happened."

I couldn't argue with her there. I still felt a bit dizzy from that hit, but we had to get to the fence and to the front gate. Otherwise, they won't stop dropping bombs. I stood up, dusted myself off, and waited for the missiles to stop. Once they did, Elizabeth and I sprinted into high gear to the fence. The missiles started up again, I kept stumbling for a bit from the shockwave of them hitting nearby, and fell down into the fence. I gripped the fence, catching my breath for a few moments. We at least were safe from the bombs and could make our way to the front of the gate without fear of being blown up further.

"Well, no more boom," I joked.

Elizabeth chuckled, "Yeah. We could always step away from the fence if we miss them."

I smiled at that notion. But, we had some Boomers to talk to. And I would like to give them my piece for launching bombs at us. I pulled away from the fence and motioned Elizabeth to follow me. We walked a bit of distance and came up on the front of the gate. It had two booths across from each other and a sign in front of the gate, but the paint was gone and it was just a blank wooden sign. A man with a missile launcher approached the gate and as they got closer, I noticed they had a brown leather jacket with what I could tell was a vault suit underneath given the blue and yellow. He also had a tan helmet that looked custom painted and had bullet casings around his neck like a necklace.

"Hold it right there! Don't you move! How the hell did you survive that bombardment," He asked.

"Simple enough. Run, hide, run. It's all in the timing," I replied.

"But I had you zeroed in the whole time! Nobody's that fast!"

I stepped forward and he took a step back with his launch still aimed at us.

"Move a muscle now and I'll blow you to pieces," He demanded.

"Calm down, " I stated, raising my hands up. "We didn't come here to attack you."

"Then just… just stay where you are! Raquel'll be here any second... "

"I'll take this from here," I hear a woman say as she walks up to the gate. She had her brown hair tied in a ponytail and had a green shirt underneath tan painted armor. She also had a survival pack of some sort on and not to mention she had green eyes that stared at me intently.

"I'm Raquel, Master-At-Arms for the Nellis homeland. Mother Pearl, our Eldest, wishes to speak to you," She finishes.

"Really," I asked puzzlingly.

"Yes, we haven't had an outsider enter here so long."

"I wonder why. You don't really open your doors with open arms."

"No savage, we don't. In your case, you are an anomaly and that is why Mother Pearl wants to speak with you."

"Very well, lead the way," I stated.

The gate opened and Elizabeth and I walked right in. The place looked like your stereotypical military airfield with hangers, houses where the soldiers slept, and a long air strip for planes to take off. And as always, it looked run down with wood boards nailed over the windows and sheet metal patched over holes in the buildings. Raquel guided us to the house where Mother Pearl was and Elizabeth and I walked in. The room had some furniture in places to make it feel more like a home than a military bunker. There were two couches facing each other and a table with a game of checkers on it. I saw Mother Pearl was sitting down and reading a book, but immediately saw us. She put it down and stood up to greet us. She was an older woman with short white hair combed over. Her skin was wrinkly, looked dry, and had hazel colored eyes. Her attire was the same as the Boomer guard at the gate with the same bullet casings put together like a necklace.

"Welcome, child! Took your sweet time getting here, didn't you? I've been waiting a good five years for an outsider to come along and visit," she cheerfully exclaimed with her raspy voice.

"Well you didn't really roll out the red carpet for us. I got thrown to a wall by the shockwave of one of your bombs."

"Those howitzers of ours aren't just for entertainment, child! Explosive ordnance is what keeps the savages at a distance. Except you! There's something special about you, child, and it was the howitzers that gave you a chance to show it!"

"You could have killed him," Elizabeth shouted in response.

Pearl turned to face Elizabeth, "You have to keep in mind that both of you are our first contact with the outside world since I was barely a woman. Seclusion has kept us safe. but the world around us is changing. Neon lights in the distance, patrolling robots, soldiers...My younger ones think our guns can keep out the world, but I think we need to let it in, just a little, or become its victim. You're that little bit of the world, child. Welcome to Nellis."

"OK, well where can we start," I asked.

Pearl folded her arms, "You both picked a good time to stop by, for we're swimming in problems. My younger children can tell you all about it. Raquel could use help with the bug problem, Doc Argyll has wounded he's tending to, and Loyal and Jack might be looking for help with some repairs in the hanger. Or, you could just go see Pete at the museum and hear the story of our people. All you have to do there is listen. Come and go as you like, help or don't help, I leave it up to you. But, I hope you'll show my younger ones that not every outsider needs to be blown up."

"Very well, we can get started on that," I stated as we walked out the door.

As we walked down the steps, I realized we had quite a bit to do and it might be better to split it among ourselves.

"So, it looks like we have a bit to do. How do you want to approach this," I asked Elizabeth.

"Well, I can take a look at the wounded that Doc Argyll has. I have some expertise in the medical field. And I don't mind listening to Pete at the museum about the story of this place," she replied.

"Sounds good, I can help Raquel with the bug problem and offer to help Loyal and Jack with repairs."

"Ok, I feel your tasks might take longer, so I'll meet you at the hanger once I am done."

"See you then," I replied as I made my way back to the gate to find Raquel.

I noticed Raquel was at the gate in one of the booths and walked in to talk to her about her bug problem.

Once she notices me, she turns to face me, "Mother Pearl's instructions are clear. You can move freely around Nellis, and artillery spotters have orders not to fire on you. These are extraordinary privileges. Don't abuse them."

"Copy that. Mother Pearl said you have a "bug problem?"

"Long story short, the power failed a few days ago because giant ants had tunneled into the generator room and set up a nest. I led a team down to exterminate them, but there were... so many of them. We lost two killed, three wounded. Personally, I think it's more than a savage can handle, but if you want to kill those ants and switch the power back on, feel free."

"I think I can handle a few ants," I replied.

"Sure, anyone can. But there's more than a few down there. See for yourself. One other thing. The ants must be eating gunpowder from the munitions down there, or something. They exploded when hit by a flamethrower. One of us was using a laser pistol - same thing. Bullets seem okay, just don't hit the artillery shells. Loyal's been working on some kind of weapon to use against them. Maybe you should check with him. The power station is across the airfield with the big satellite dish on it. And here is the Generator key," she states, handing me the key.

Exploding ants. Lovely. Thankfully I don't use laser weapons.

I took the key from her and put it in my pocket, "Ok, I'll check in with him."

I walked to the hanger to find Loyal. As I entered, it looked like a makeshift cafeteria. Tables lined the place and vending machines were on the wall to the right of them. I saw an older man with white hair that wore the same attire as everyone else. He even had a Pipboy on him and more medals on his jacket. I approached him, "Are you Loyal?"

The man cleared his throat and greeted me, "Yes, I am. I hope Pearl knows what she's doing, letting you wander around Nellis as you please."

"Raquel said you were working on some kind of weapon to fight the giant ants," I asked.

"I started building a sonic emitter that might do the trick, but it's useless without knowing the exact frequency that would kill the ants," he replied.

"Any signal over 22,000 hertz at 150 or more decibels should do the trick," I stated.

"Hot damn, you're right! It's a matter of boosting across those thresholds, not exact amplitude. You're smarter than you look. Just so happens I was testing it at 24,000 hertz, so it should be good to go. Place it near their nest and cross your fingers. Signal's too high for people to hear, so no harm done, but it might make you feel sick to your stomach," He says, handing me the Sonic Emitter and a key.

I took it out of his hands and inspected it for a moment. It had a red light to indicate it was armed and had the numbers 5 to 55 in a circle around the keyhole. It was green in color and had a black base surrounding it with two handle bars to hold it. I put both of them in my bag.

"Ok, I'll go see if this works," I replied.

I left the hanger and made my way to the power station. While I was walking there, I just realized how open and empty the place felt with no planes nearby. Still gave a desolate feeling to the place even if it was inhabited by a ton of people. I saw the giant tan satellite dish on top of the building and saw the blue door to enter. I dug the key out of my pocket and inserted it into the keyhole, then once I heard it click that it was unlocked, I turned the key and entered.
