David Goldman, a man in his early forties, looked puzzled and little concerned at the pair of detectives at his door, especially from homicide. While some of his activities were definitely under the table, his skill set did not involve anything violent. At least not for several years...

"I'm Goldman. What can I do for you?" he asked the detectives, stealing a look at Mike and then a quick glance at Steve.

"Do you mind if we come in and talk to you?" Mike asked, the kindness in his voice surprised Steve.

"I don't know. Am I in trouble of some kind?" Goldman asked.

"Well, actually, we have some news...from Tyler," Mike said trying to get a read from his person of interest.

"Oh," Goldman replied as he showed the pair into his apartment. "That doesn't sound good. I guess you should come on in. Have a seat."

The pair of detectives made their way over to an older but clean couch. Steve looked around the apartment. It was small and sparse, but in good shape and definitely clean. Goldman looked like he had just awoken with disheveled hair and wrinkled clothes.

Steve began. "Mr. Goldman, you are David Goldman, brother of Jacob?"

The pair watched for David Goldman's reaction and saw the look of shock and a little bit of dread cross his face.

"Yeah, that's me. Has something happened to Jacob? Is he all right?" his voice already shaking.

"Unfortunately, no. Jacob was found in the India Basin about a week ago. We were able to tie him to a missing person's report in Tyler, which is how we found you," Steve added.

Goldman was as white as a sheet. "What do you mean 'found in the India Basin'? What was he doing there?"

Mike interjected, "That's what we're trying to find out."

"So, he's dead?" Goldman asked now in a state of shock that surprised both detectives.

"Yes, sir," Steve responded. "His body was found so far away from Tyler and with you being the only contact that we know of that Mr. Goldman may have known in the Bay area, we thought we would reach out to you."

"It's been years since I've seen Jacob. He was my big brother, but it's been so long since we talked."

"So you haven't seen or talked to your brother in how long?"

"Our folks died a couple of years ago. They couldn't get a hold of me, not that they would, for the funeral. But I saw it in the local paper." Both detectives looked up at that revelation.

"I still get a subscription to the newspaper in Tyler through the mail. It's usually a week late. Anyway, I called Jacob and my other brother just to say how sorry I was to hear it," Goldman added.

"So he didn't try to get ahold of you for the funeral?" Mike asked.

"How could he? I haven't wanted to be found in a long time. The only contact I have is with Tyler is what I see in the paper. I've kept up with the subscription."

"I understand," Steve said he made some notes.

"But you haven't told me. Was he murdered?" Goldman asked.

"It would appear so," Steve answered.

"He was shot and apparently dumped," Mike answered, unwilling to go more into detail.

Mike and Steve noticed Goldman's eyes glazing over. "Who? Who would do that to him?"

"That's what we're trying to find out," Mike answered. "And you don't know why he would be in San Francisco?"

Goldman wiped a tear from his eyes. "Not at all. I can't answer why he was here or why he was killed."
