The pair of detectives returned to their offices on Bryant Street, not feeling a true break in the case after interviewing David Goldman, the decedent's brother. Steve was unusually quiet on their walk back from the garage.

"What are you thinking, Buddy Boy?" Mike asked, curious on the young man's insights.

"I don't know what to think, but at this point, I don't see it with David Goldman. His reaction seemed sincere enough," Steve added as they grabbed coffee and made their way into Mike's office to brainstorm.

"The only thing we have is very circumstantial and that is he is the only connection that Jacob Goldman has in San Francisco. Last I checked, that doesn't necessarily make you a suspect for murder. But with this mob-ties, that does raise flags. Still, it sounds like he's a pretty small cog in that machine," Mike said as he took off his glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"He lives modestly," Steve suggested.

"Don't let that fool you. A lot of those guys have 'fronts' where they live like paupers but have bankrolls elsewhere that would suggest otherwise. I wouldn't worry about his financial wherewithal."

Steve cocked his head. "You mean you think he's got a hidden Swiss bank account?"

"Maybe. But even if he does, I think Mr. David Goldman showed us enough confusion and sorry about his brother. If he is somehow connected, I don't think he knew about it."

Steve added, "I found in interesting that he still gets the Tyler newspaper too. Something still has a hold on him. Perhaps its Beverly or perhaps its the family ties..."

"Did your folks keep a subscription to the Tyler news after you left?"

"Honestly, yes. For a while. Many of the family was still there at the time and it was really the only way to stay connected. Even though they decided it was time for a move, they still had some feelings for the place."

Bill Tanner knocked on Mike's door gently. "Sorry to interrupt, but your vic's car was found at a tow lot near the Basin. Here's the address?"

"Wait, Goldman's car?" Mike asked.

"That's the one. The guys are going to be over there later this afternoon to impound it, but thought you might want to get a first view of it."

"You bet we do, Bill. Let's go, Steve," Mike said as he jumped from his desk chair and grabbed his coat.
