A/N: Hello! Those who know me know I usually write long form fanfics, but I've been wanting to get better at writing drabbles and so this is just that. A series of snapshots set both during Rings of Power, the Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy. Follows both movie canon and book canon and in no particular order. If there's anything you want me to write, I'm taking requests so please comment below.
Brackets at the top of the chapter will indicate where and when the drabble is set.
PS: If you don't like the Rings of Power, that's totally fine, but please don't use this space to voice your dislike.
ONE
(Rings of Power 1x07 )
"Elrond is as much a brother to me as if he'd been fired in my own mother's womb."
Durin was not aware that Elrond had heard every word that he'd said to his father. They'd been close friends for over a century, but this was the first time Durin had truly expressed these feelings. Since the somewhat rocky start to his arrival in Khazad-dûm Elrond was both flustered and overjoyed that their friendship was still intact. In fact, Durin had every right to be angry with him for abandoning their friendship for completely selfish reasons. Truth be told, Elrond was ashamed of himself that he'd allowed himself to be consumed by his own work and the matters which only concerned his kin. Of course he loved his people and his job as herald to the king, but he certainly needed to remind himself that life was not all about work.
Dwarves, Elrond knew, were a fiercely proud people. They cared deeply for their kin and friendships often lasted many centuries. Elves and dwarves had not always gotten along, but contrary to popular belief, they were not all that dissimilar.
"He loves you."
Disa's words were filled with certainty and her eyes pierced Elrond's. There was not a single doubt in his mind that she would be a remarkable queen. That was another thing that dwarves and elves had in common; when they chose a partner they chose one for the rest of their lives. Durin and Disa were both made for each other and Elrond could not believe he'd missed their weddings. Something for which he would never forgive himself.
Disa sat down next to Elrond on the steps.
"I know he's proud and stubborn and a damned fool sometimes, but he will not abandon you or your people. No matter what his father says."
"I know." Elrond nodded, "I just wish his relationship with his father would not be strained because of me."
"Oh elrond you idiot." Disa said, "Don't you know by now that that's what families do for each other? Durin loves you like a brother and I love you as a sister. We're in this together whether you like it or not, elf. Don't you forget it."
Disa hugged Elrond and the elf found himself grinning more genuinely than he had done for a long time. Yes, his home was in Lindon, but a part of him could not help but feel that he had another home in Khazad-dûm.
Eru be damned if Durin ever found out he was getting emotional about it, though.
He would never let him live it down.
To be continued….
Short and sweet!
