Chapter 95: Conan Disappeared on the Cliff, Part One

Time passes...

One night, the criminal group 'Zorro' was ransacking a villa they had targeted. Not content with mere robbery, they killed the three residents in the villa and set fire to the house.

"Where do you think you're going?" Mizorogi Go rebuked, firing his crossbow at the fleeing Isehara Yuji as a warning.

"No one said we'd be killing anyone." Isehara muttered.

"They ignored our warnings that we'll kill them if they resisted." Mizorogi reminded. "They got what they deserved."

"I'm out." Isehara decided.

"Now that's really not part of the plan." Mizorogi stated. "You're broken the contract. You're a traitor. You'll have to be punished." he raised his crossbow at Isehara.

"You!" a pair of patrolling policemen called out. "What are you doing?"

Mizorogi changed his target and fired his crossbow at the policeman who had shouted.

Taking advantage of the distraction, Isehara fled.

The next day...

"Your connections never fail to impress me, Professor." Conan was awed by the splendor of the mansion they were visiting. "I can't believe you know the person who owns this villa."

Ayumi ran over to the fence to breathe in the ocean air before screaming when she found the injured Isehara behind the bushes.

"He's alive." Conan noticed Isehara was gasping for air. "Haibara, call an ambulance."

At the Misakihama Clinic...

Conan was about to leave Isehara's room after returning the photo the bespectacled man had dropped when he spotted a suspicious man disguised as a doctor entering the clinic. His suspicions instantly roused when he noted the man wearing military boots, he re-entered via the emergency escape and swapped out Isehara's name-card with the empty room next door.

Entering the misnamed room, Mizorogi pulled the curtains around the bed apart, a dagger in hand ready to stab Isehara. "What?" he frowned, finding the bed empty.

"Now, to call the police." Conan already had his cellphone in hand, having barricaded Mizorogi in the room when a series of police sirens rang from the roads. "Damn it." he cursed, hearing the window open and realized Mizorogi had fled outside.

"Conan-kun?" Takagi was surprised.

"A suspicious man fled through the window." Conan reported. "Check the rear entrance."

"It's no use." Chiba came back with a stolen doctor's coat in hand. "He escaped. We found this in the garbage out back."

"Was that injured man part of the 'Zorro' robbery group?" Conan guessed.

"Actually, the group hires its members." Takagi explained. "Isehara Yuji, twenty-eight years old. He's a skilled hacker our cyber-crimes division was pursuing, too. He hacks and manipulates the target's security information. We heard through the Kanagawa Police that they had a likely suspect in their custody, so we came here."

"Isehara's missing too?" Chiba exclaimed when a nurse informed him.

"Find him!" Megure barked.

As night fell...

Conan managed to get himself lost in the forest near the villa of Professor Agasa's friend when he saw a light coming from a house at the bottom of a slope. "Found it." he compared the house to the photo had he taken beforehand. He peered in through the window when he heard a gunshot and witnessed the other members of the 'Zorro' gang confront Isehara.

"I knew where exactly you'd go, Isehara." Mizorogi snorted.

"Spare me." Isehara pleaded.

"For your wife and kid?" Mizorogi mocked, pulling out a replicate photo. "Talk about melodramatic. You talked, didn't you?"

"I didn't say anything." Isehara protested.

"Then, I'll let you choose." Mizorogi remarked. "Either I kill your family, or you die here. It's up to you." he tossed his hunting knife at Isehara's feet.

Unable to take it any longer, Conan stomped on the log pile he was standing on, alerting the gang of his presence.

"Who's there?" Mizorogi flung open the window, Conan was already long gone.

Taking advantage of the distraction, Isehara snatched the photo and made his escape.

"Over here." Conan gestured. "Hurry." he urged Isehara along.

"They're going to kill me." Isehara wheezed for breath, after them momentarily lost Mizorogi and his group.

"It's okay." Conan hushed him. "They don't know where we are."

"I don't wanna die!" Isehara wailed, when Mizorogi turned to their direction, his crossbow aimed at them.

"This way." Mizorogi ordered his two companions.

"This place..." Conan frowned, Isehara had led them to the edge of a cliff.

"Conan." Genta called out, the rest of the Detective Boys had stopped on another cliff.

"You put us through all this unnecessary work, traitor." Mizorogi rebuked, having cornered Conan and Isehara. "Die." he fired his crossbow at Isehara and sending him over the cliff.

Conan reached out to grab Isehara and the momentum caused him to fall along with the hacker.

At the villa's entrance...

"Professor Agasa." Mouri spotted the incoming Professor Agasa. "Thank you for coming to meet us."

"Did something happen to the kids?" Ran noticed the aged Professor's panting form.

"I just heard from the kids." Professor Agasa replied.

"Conan-kun is..." Ran breathed in disbelief after Professor Agasa informed the father-daughter pair.
