Ch. 9
Okay calm down I can do this. I can easily get out of this.
'Guys suggestions?' I asked my inner emotions.
'Lie like a boss,' Perversion suggested.
'Yea you should total bullshit out of this, it's going to turn into a big pain in the ass,' said Sloth.
'Just tell them the truth. They're going to find out eventually. So you might as well tell them now,' Logic told me.
I let out a sigh before standing up, "you weren't supposed to hear that," I said grabbing a few things out of my bag. Shepard and Garrus rested their hands on their pistols. "That won't be necessary Shepard," I said pointing at his pistol. "You guys are too important," I looked at Shepard, "If you die then the whole galaxy is doomed."
I picked up a data pad and made my way towards the door, "I'll meet you three in the conference room." I moved past the group and went through the Infirmary where Shili and Dr. Chakwas were staring at me.
"Is everything alright Fox?" Shili asked with worry in her tone.
I cracked my head to the side, "I could be better," I answered tiredly, "Come on we need to talk to Shepard about a few things in the conference room." Shili nodded towards me before telling Chakwas that she would come back to finish her physical.
We quickly made our way to the elevator not saying a word until we were inside and the doors closed. "So what are you doing here?" I asked as we made our slow journey upwards.
Shili turns to me, "Somebody has to make sure you don't do any more stupid stunts like what you did back on Haestrom." She shuffled a bit before continuing, "That and I missed you."
I looked towards her with a raised eyebrow that was covered by my hood. "Really? I kinda like not having you around to nag me to death," I said which earned me a punch to the shoulder.
"Light give this bosh'tet a good smack for me," Shili said playfully as the doors opened. The spirit obliged the girl much to my ire. Dropping off my guns at the armoury Shili and I went to the conference room and swept the room cleaned.
"So why are we doing this?" Shili asked as she pulled out another burned surveillance bug. I looked up from the terminal that was built in the table, "Shepard found out about me."
"What do you mean 'found out'?" Shili asked her tone dropping low.
I shuffled my feet nervously, "He might have over heard my not-so-inner-monologue on Haestrom."
"Keelah Fox," Shili said tossing another destroyed bug into a pile with the rest. Seriously how many bugs does one room need? "And you've been here for how long?"
I turn back to the terminal and muttered my answer.
"What was that?" Shili asked for clarification.
Oh boy this is going to suck.
'Naw it be fun,' Light reassured.
'Yea for you,' I snapped.
'Exactly.'
I growled before clearing my throat, "A few days." I look back to see that Shili was staring at me. It looked like her left eye was twitching.
She took a deep breath before saying, "At least they don't know about your appearance," the Quarian said trying to find the bright side of all of this. It's a shame that I'm going to have to blow that out of the water with my next statement.
I scratch the back of my head and let out a nervous chuckle, "Yea well about that…" I trailed off seeing that Shili started to tremble with anger. "Hey the first time wasn't my fault," I said quickly.
'Hiss bad move,' Light said before smiling.
Then Shili exploded, "THE FIRST TIME!" she yelled balling up her fist causing me to gulp, "I THOUGHT YOUR SUPPOSE TO BE AN EXPERT IN STEALTH, AND YET YOU SLIP UP WITH IN A WEEK OF JOINING!" Shili began stalking towards me. I raised my hands up in surrender and defence if I have to, because she is a real scrapper.
"I didn't have a choice they had to run a medical exam on me before I could join the ground team," I said backing up so that I had plenty of distance between me and the angered Quarian.
Shili seemed to calm down a bit. "And the second time?" she asked with gritted teeth.
I gave another nervous chuckle while my index fingers together, "You pulled someone into bed while you're sleeping didn't you," she answered for me in a monotone voice.
I nodded my head and Shili gave an aggravated sigh while her anger simmered down a bit. "Who was it?"
I relaxed a bit. "Tali'Zorah," I said as I let my guard down.
This was a mistake.
Now I'm guessing that Shili was upset, which was understandable. I mean Cerberus and Shadow Broker are already want me for my powers. If they found out that I knew what knew they would come after me like a starving man to a Christmas turkey.
'And now TIM knows,' Light said, 'Yea we'll keep that to ourselves.'
'Agreed,' I said, 'But Jack might think that there is a leak.'
'Either way he'll be after us to find out. We should be on our guard.'
Back to the matter at hand, while I Knew Shili's anger was just because she was worried for me. I think at this point she became very worried at the same time whine I uttered Tali's name.
"YOU FUCKING BOSH'TET," Shili screeched launching herself at me punching me in the gut. I fell to the ground and she was on me in an instant her around neck. "ARE YOU TRYING TO PISS EVERYBODY IN THE GALAXY OFF! ADMIRAL ZOARH IS GOING TO KILL YOU AND THEN ME!" she said shaking my head back and forth. My head hit the floor making a –thud- -thud- -thud- rhythm each time. I grabbed her and with nimble movements I had her head in a hold.
"It wasn't my fault!" I said trying to restrain the thrashing Quarian, "It has a mind of its own!"
Shili answered with an elbow to the family jewels causing me to release my hold on her while and crash to the ground in pain. She quickly jumped on me and pinned me by straddled my hips. "I get it," Shili said pinching my cheeks and stretching them, "You have a thing for us Quarians don't you!"
"Ifsh nost liie thach," I said though my lips trying to say. "It's not like that."
"Ahem," somebody cough causing us to turn towards the door to see Shepard, Garrus, Tali and Ice Queen standing at the door.
"Hey Shepard," Shili said naturally as if this was normal, and technically it was for us. We are bonded like brother and sister, or Quin fu'Ket as Shili calls it.
I felt Shili tense and I knew why. It's because of that bitch. I grabbed my scared sister's hand and gave it a comforting squeeze, which caused her to look at me. I gave her a nod she returned the gesture.
"Oh nothing much," Shili said in a carefree tone, but I can still pick up the underling fear. She got off of me and helped me up, "Just making sure that he," the Quarian gave me a punch on the shoulder, "Understood the gravity of the current situation."
I scoffed, "I know full well how heavy this is," I turned and glared murderously at sugar tits. "What the fuck is she doing here," I said growling at Miranda.
"She's my XO," Shepard said plainly with a hint of caution as he picked up the rising tension, "And I think she needs to hear this as well."
"You mean the TIM wants to know," Shili said causing me to smirk and the bitch to scowl.
"XO or not I'm talking until that," I pointed at the person in question, "leaves."
Miranda smirks and says, "You really don't have any say in the matter."
I nodded my head before I looked over to Shili, "You do have a say on how you leave this room," I stated calmly. "You can walk your genetic bitch ass out this room or…." I pulled out Paladin and placed it on the table just Shili pulled out her own pistol, "Or in a body bag you choice."
Everyone looked at me with wide eyes. I'm sure that everybody could taste the tension in the air, and it wasn't going to let up.
"I personally prefer option two."
Miranda scoffs, "Yea right you do-"
She never had the chance to finish as I quickly brought my gun up and fired one round. The bullet grazed her left ear. The perfect woman looked shocked as blood began flowing out. "I have killed before," I began evenly not lowering the gun in fact I switched the ammo to inferno rounds, "I greatly hate taking a life, but at times there are literally no other choice."
'Or I lost control….' I thought my mind going back the Batarian slaver.
"Shepard I'm willing to tell you, Garrus, and Tali because I believe that you can be trusted with this information," I said flicking my gaze over to the trio, "it is my hopes that you won't use this for ill." I turned my eyes back to the Cerberus loyal XO, "But I will not say a word while that bitch is here."
Miranda looked over to Shili with narrow eyes as if she was trying to remember something, and she did her eyes widen and her lips lift upwards. At that moment Shili began trembling. I stepped in front of my sister and let out a growl letting the bitch know to back off or else.
I tried to keep a hold of myself but every time I see her I see them as well what she did to Shili.
"Alright then," Shepard said his hands raised, "just put the gun down, and we'll talk." I took a deep breath to calm down while asking forgiveness to all those I failed. As I lowered my gun Miranda decided no was the time to voice her displeasure.
"Shepard you can't be serious!" Miranda looked at Shepard with a shocked expression, "He can benefit humanity in so many ways." She looked at me before she returned to Shepard and begged, "Please let me send him to a Cerberus facility I promise to send any valuable data to you."
I bared my teeth and snarled. 'You son of-'
"He's a fucking living being you Bosh'tet," we all looked over in surprise at Tali's outburst. I'm getting a big case of déjà vu.
Shili said the same words during one of our encounters with Cerberus. 'You know I always had respect for the Quarians,' Light said gently, 'I'm glad to know them.'
I agreed with the being living inside my soul as I stared at Tali, and for a brief moment when ours eyes met. I felt something strange. As everything became clear, clicked into place, a connection was formed between us. The feeling died just as we broke eye contact.
"Tali is right," Shepard said drawing us back to reality, "You're out of line Miranda. Like I told you before, I'm not handing Fox over to Cerberus just because he pissed off TIM."
Thank you Shepard you are the man.
"Ms. Lawson you're dismissed," Shepard said holding up his hand to cut off Miranda's response, "If he has any relative data I'll let you know."
Miranda glared at me, which I returned with bird attached to it, before leaving the room taking a glance at the pile of fried listening equipment.
"Now," Shepard rounded to me, "You better start talking because right now your treading on thin ice with Miranda saying that you attacked her with some kind of hallucinogens and vandalizing her room, and on top of that you seem to know things that you shouldn't know." Shepard placed his hands on the table.
"Talk."
