Paul got off the platform followed by the others. They had reached the top without any more attacks but that made him even more uneasy. Had the borg retreated out of fear? Paul found that hard to believe. He put his hand on the terminal close to the only exit and to his relief the door slid back easily to reveal an empty corridor. Paul cautiously stuck his head out and looked both ways. No borg in sight. He motioned at the others to follow him as he stepped further into the wide hallway. Some of the working sensor lights came on when they detected his presence. That made him grit his teeth, while he was grateful for the illumination Paul was worried it may alert the borg. Orion padded up beside him and whined, he was also scared.

"Where are they?" asked an equally concerned Kara.

"That's what I would like to know," said Paul as he quickly checked his datapad once they had walked two feet towards the exit which was five minutes away at a fast run. "We need to keep moving. Twelve minutes left…"

"Wait," said Laura behind them. Paul frowned at her. She seemed to be listening for something.

"Didn't you hear me? We don't have time to waste…"

"Shhhh," said Q Junior. The hologram was staring down the corridor, his gaze unfocused. "Something is in the walls." His voice was barely above a whisper. Paul went silent and listened and soon heard a very faint click-clack noise.

Paul felt his heart go cold as he realized what had occurred.

"Did you block off the shafts of the other ruined elevators?" asked Q Junior in a concerned whisper. Everyone stared at Paul.

Paul shook his head. "I only blew them up." He saw the horror on everyone's face and even Red One appeared shaken. While they had been distracted by the attacks on their single operating lift; the other borg had used the time to climb up the shafts of the ruined elevators.

"We need to run now!" yelled Paul. To his relief they didn't waste them in following him

"How many elevators between us and the exit?" asked Oma.

"Two," replied Paul shortly.

"Why didn't you keep the one functioning elevator close to the frakking exit?" yelled Kara. Paul didn't bother answering because for some reason he chose that moment to look up to see at least ten borg clinging to the top walls, pointing their weapons at Oma.

"Ceiling!" he yelled as he shoved the young female Earth soldier to one side. The stun bolt missed her by a hair's breadth as Paul and the others opened fire. Oma recovered quickly and lifted her right hand and instantly the borg closet to her literally felt apart, but even as they were being destroyed, the borg kept shooting.

The bastards were relentless.

From the corner of his eye, Paul saw Six slump as a phaser shot hit her right arm. Orion ran back to the female cylon and began to nudge her as if trying to help her up.

"Six is down!" He yelled. Q Junior quickly moved to cover the semi-unconscious female cylon, the phaser shots began to hit the hologram and to Paul's astonishment it seemed he was absorbing the shots without being affected. In a short time that felt like a life time, the borgs on the walls were annihilated. Then Paul heard something that chilled his blood, the click clack was increasing, which likely meant there were more borg in front of them.

"Oma, I need you to clear the way." She nodded as Paul looked at the others. "We have to get past the elevators quickly. Laura and Kara take Caprica. Nat, Q and Red will cover our backs !" yelled Paul.

Oma and Paul took lead as Kara and Laura carried Six between them with Q Junior, Nat and Red one covering their rear. Orion was between them. Their group turned the corner to find scores of borg waiting for them.

"We are the borg. Resistance is futile. We are the borg. Resistance is futile."

Oma lifted her hands and they began to fall apart.

"Let them have it!" yelled Paul as he and the others carrying guns began to fire at will into the mass of gathered borg. Oma brought her hands together rapidly and the borgs slammed into each other and she separated her hands with the same speed and the bodies and parts of the borgs slammed into the walls. The small group of escapees quickly ran through the Oma made tunnel and Paul felt his heart rate climb when he saw the last two elevators. The large doors were open and borg were crawling through them. Then suddenly, the two opposing waves of borg were suddenly swept back as if held by invisible walls. Paul gaped at Oma who had her hands outstretched to the sides. The young Earth ensign was the one holding them back but her hands were beginning to shake. The stimulant was most likely wearing off.

"We need to run!" said Oma through gritted teeth. No one argued with her as they sped past the borg horde.

Logan was stunned when the wormhole disappeared and the electric force-field suddenly dropped. Then he was hit by a wave of suspicion. Why the hell did this feel like a trap?

But he was already talking and walking.

"We move in, our people are in there." He didn't wait to see if anyone was behind him. Logan reached the now foreboding open doorway. Three cylon teams had passed through those doors and never returned. Now, most of his crew, a colonial pilot, a centurion and two number six cylons were down in the underground base. He prayed he found them alive and well.

Behind Logan, Lee quickly picked ten colonial marines to come with and Boomer watching did the same, selecting five heavily armed cylons and five centurions. Lee turned to Saul Tigh.

"Don't even bother uttering those words rattling around in your brain," said Saul curtly. "I'm coming with you." The XO inclined his head towards Boomer and Ellen. Lee wanted to argue, then sighed.

"This is a bad idea sir."

Saul snorted. "Tell me something I don't know." Lady Q stood beside Lee Adama, an enigmatic smile on her face.

Jean walked up until she was beside Logan. "Something's happening." Logan gave her a startled look. She leaned close to him as she dropped her voice to a whisper. "I can feel fear and anger. They are still alive but…I think they are running from something."

Logan wanted to ask her why she was having difficulty discerning their emotions and their minds, then realized that nothing had gone according to plan since they got here. They still didn't know why the wormhole disappeared and the force field dissipated.

"Stay behind me. I'll use my nose." Said Logan as he took point and walked faster.

The hallway was dark. "Light up the way," ordered Lee and two colonials began to attach magnetic glow lights to the walls and soon Logan's eyes adapted and the first thing he noticed was the dust on the ground and the footprints of the centurions and cylons who had passed before. Logan felt dread. Had they been murdered by whatever traps lay within?

He refused to believe that was the fate for the most recent abductees. They kept walking cautiously in the gradually lightened hallway for a few more minutes when Logan heard faint gunfire. He lifted a hand and everyone stopped.

"What's happening?" asked a worried Lee who pushed his way to the front.

"They…they are coming towards us," said Jean then before anyone could react she began to run into the darkness.

"Jean!" yelled Logan.

"Dr Grey!" yelled Lee. Both men and the rest of the temporary combined alliance ran after them.

Jean ran into a cavernous circular room and to her astonishment bright lights automatically came on. Part of her wondered if these were triggered by her presence but the hallway had been dark. Maybe some of the lights had failed? Jean discarded the thought as she ran to a pair of heavy looking metal eighteen-foot doors at the opposite side of the large room. Come to think of it, this chamber was similar to the one she and Logan had found on Hera's planet. Definitely constructed by the same builders.

"Jean!" called a worried Logan from behind her.

"They are behind this door!" she yelled back. Jean ran up to the ancient looking control panel. It had the shape of a hand below it, just like the one in the ruins. She didn't hesitate as she placed her right hand on it.

"What are you doing?" asked a suspicious Boomer.

Jean watched the panel light up red and then sparkle, some instinct made her jump back as the panel erupted in sparks.

"Jean! Are you alright?" asked a worried Logan

She frowned at the ruined panel. "It's damaged." Jean suspected it wasn't going to work.

Lady Q calmly walked up to the door and leaned forward as if listening. "The gunshots are getting closer."

"We need to get it open," said a pale looking Anders. Lee frowned at him.

"Lieutenant we have to be sure…"

"Captain Logan, may I take a peep and see what's down the hallway?" interrupted Lady Q in a solemn tone.

Logan nodded. "Do it." Lady Q looked at Lee who was in possession of her holoemitter. The colonial officer reluctantly stepped closer to her and Lady Q phased through the double heavy metal doors. They barely had to wait thirty seconds before she walked backwards rapidly with a grave, angry expression on her face.

"I saw our crew and theirs" she quickly inclined her head at the cylons. "…coming up a stairway, running. They are at least three minutes away from those doors but behind them are…the borg."

Logan felt his heart go cold.

"The borg?" asked an incredulous Saul. "What the frak are they?'" But Anders and Rogers had gone deadly pale. They both knew what they were from watching Six and Baltar observe the mostly disastrous encounters between Starfleet and the borg.

"We have to get that door open and nuke this planet from orbit," blurted out Rogers in horror.

Lee turned to question Logan but the male mutant was already talking. "The borg are the most dreaded enemy of Starfleet. There have been several encounters, which were thought to be borg scouting missions and Starfleet only won once at great cost." Said Logan in a grim tone.

"Get away from the door," said Jean as her eyes flashed black and she moved to stand in-front of the doors, as Logan, Lee, Anders, the XO and Lady Q moved back. She held out her hands and almost immediately a reddish glow began to emit from her as the doors began quiver and the seam where the doors met began to disintegrate. This caused gasps of astonishment from the gathered cylons, centurions and colonials. From behind Jean; Logan was able to see down the hallway and saw people running towards them. Laura and Kara, who were dragging a semi unconscious Six between them. While Q Junior, Natalie Faust, Red One, Oma and another strange man walked backwards at a rapid pace while four of them kept firing at the approaching nightmarish horde borg. Oma was using her magnetism powers to dismember the borg and placing the parts in their path to slow them down but there were too many borg. Several of the borg were climbing the walls in other to get closer to their prey. Logan squinted when he saw what looked like a metallic dog running with the escapees.

"We are the borg. Resistance is futile." Logan felt chills go down his spine. He had read the reports; watched the holovids but it was nothing compared to seeing the borg in the flesh.

Jean was sweating but didn't utter a sound as she made the gap wider. Logan was worried about her endurance. She was yet to recover from the earlier battle with the miniature wormhole.

Come on, come on. Thought Logan as the abductees began to approach as the borg repeated their mantra.

"Kara, Oma, Laura, everyone, hurry!" bellowed Anders. The group got closer to salvation, by the time Jean had gotten the entrance wide enough for them to run through, then the telepath stretched out her right hand to telepathically grab them all, they floated in the air before she 'pulled' them to safety. The borg horde surged forward then slammed into the reddish psychic brick wall that was held up by Jean's left hand.

"We are the borg. Resistance is futile."

Anders and Rogers joined Boomer and Ellen who ran to help the fallen escapees. Lady Q stood nearby, forgotten by everyone as most of them were staring at the young man with gunmetal grey skin. Whose features were that of a much younger Saul Tigh. Both colonials and cylons instantly pointed their guns at him. The centurions simply stared. Orion whined, drawing their attention as well.

"Don't shoot!" yelled Kara to everyone's surprise. "We would be dead if not for him." Natalie gave her a stunned look.

"Aye." Said the strange man as he stood up. "Paul Tighris by the way…" his voice trailed off when he saw a speechless Saul Tigh. "Ah, now I see." A fleeting moment of sadness passed his face.

"Do not fight each other!" The dark and pissed off Phoenix voice had everyone standing down and facing the horror that was inching up to the opening in the double doors. The borg had been slowed but were still inching closer toward them. "We have much bigger problems." Jean looked at them all with her eerie completely black eyes. That caused quite a number of colonials and cylons to cry out in alarm and take a few steps back. Even the centurions seemed shaken.

"Jean and Phoenix are right," said Logan as he itched to pop his claws.

Paul cautiously held up a hand while keeping his other hand away from his weapons while keeping his eyes on Jean Grey and the very slowly approaching borg horde. Obviously, he was freaked out about the impossibility before him. "I have fifty bombs linked to the underground chamber and they are about to go off in about six minutes." Lee stared at him in horror.

"He's right," said Q Junior. "He linked those fifty bombs to the underground reactor so as to destroy the ship the borg are building." Lee's face was as white as a sheet.

Q continued. "We don't have much time." The hologram was kneeling beside Six as he assessed her before giving her a single hypospray dose in her neck. Boomer glared at him but the effect was immediate. Six suddenly seemed more awake and stronger.

"Thanks Q Junior," said the female cylon before demanding to be let up. "Captain Logan, as a representative of the cylon refugees, I request asylum for my people with Starfleet and the Federation."

There was dead silence for a precious moment before Lee and some of the cylons started yelling at Six, asking her what in Hades was she doing. Q Junior, Oma and Laura stared at Six in shock. No one noticed Lady Q's raising an eyebrow in approval at the well-played emotional ambush.

"Enough!" yelled Logan and silence reigned once more. He glared at Six. This had been the worst time for what she had just did but he had much bigger borg related things to worry about.

"Six, we will address that later if we survive." Logan didn't wait for her response and looked at the very frightened and angry gathered individuals. "Everyone who wants to live, withdraw to your ships right now."

Lee looked at him for a moment, then turned to his people. "You heard the captain! Move out now!" Lee nodded at Anders who began to lead the colonials out. Boomer and Nat had a tense short discussion and the number eight cylon began to lead her own people out. But Nat, Six, Ellen Tigh, Kara, Laura, Oma, Rogers and Q Junior remained. Orion tried to stand still but the metallic hound was quivering.

Lady Q stood to the side, as if forgotten.

As for Saul Tigh; he was still staring at Paul Tighris who had stopped gaping at Jean and had dug out his small monitor to look at. The XO was so pale that Lee was worried he was about to faint. Lee walked to him.

"Sir, you need to get back to the raider…"

"This …he can't be right…" began a stunned Saul Tigh.

"Sir!" shouted Lee and the older officer flinched. Then Lee lowered his voice. "Get back to the ship so that we…"

"Something is wrong," said Paul abruptly.

"What?" asked Kara and Nat at the same time.

"The first bomb; the most critical one isn't transmitting." Lee went pale when he heard that.

"Meaning…"

"That we are truly frakked!" growled Paul as he glared at the borg with so much hate that Lee was a bit surprised that the borg didn't spontaneously combust.

"We are the borg. Resistance is futile."

"I need to go back in and reset the bomb," said Paul to everyone's surprise.

"That's frakking suicide," said Kara before anyone could react. No one noticed Lady Q's frown.

"What about nuking it from orbit?" asked Rogers.

"Someone will have to stay back and hold the borg in place so they don't escape deep underground and survive," said Oma in a numb tone. Rogers went pale. He looked at her shaking hands, she was on the edge of collapsing from exhaustion. He knew she was going to volunteer.

Lady Q rolled her eyes and snapped her fingers and time froze. That was when her son finally noticed her.

"Mum!" His voice was raised in protest at her interference.

Lady Q sighed tiredly. "It's so good to see you as well my dear son." She walked over and ruffled his hair which produced another sound of distress.

"You're not supposed to be here!" Q Junior sounded very upset. Lady Q decided to have pity on her son.

"My dear baby Q," she pinched his cheeks and she almost laughed at his expression of mortification. Instead Lady Q settled for a solemn mien as she placed her hands on his shoulders. "Someone who is quite powerful is messing with your grand intervention." Now, that got through to him.

"What?! Who? Is it the General?!"

Lady Q shook her head. "It's not one of the Q, but someone who was warned to leave things well alone, but I can't tell you yet until I get more intel."

Q Junior gave her a puzzled look. "Is that why you stopped time?"

Lady Q stepped away from her son and studied the frozen Paul Tighris. "Partly. However, my real reason is to find out how his first bomb was disabled." She looked at her son. "I need you to stand guard over them, I won't be long." Lady Q snapped her fingers before her son could protest.

Lady Q appeared near to the underground nuclear reactor. The cavernous chamber had greenish cooling tubes courtesy of borg technology running up and down the walls. The reactor itself had been modified by the borg already. Lady Q finally found the first bomb and noticed it had been disabled but she doubted it had been by the borg. First of all, they would never have left the bomb in place, second of all…the psychic stench was that of Ares. She had picked up on it when she spied on the Lords of Kobol as a ghost panther. Lady Q rewound time and watched Ares step out of his miniature wormhole in order to do mischief.

Lady Q scoffed. "Qs can play at that game." She snapped her fingers and returned to find her very impatient offspring.

"What did you find?" immediately asked Q Junior.

"It wasn't the borg who tampered with the bombs, but someone the Q will have to deal with eventually." Q Junior opened his mouth to ask another question but Lady Q shook her head.

"There's no more time." This made him go pale. For a Q to say that, meant something was very wrong. "You need to think of all the weapons you have on the Xavier and suggest the best one that can penetrate to this planet's core."

Q Junior's eyes widened. "The core?"

Lady Q nodded. "You're up." Then she snapped her fingers to rewind time and restart the reality.

"Someone will have to stay back and hold the borg in place so they don't escape deep underground and survive," said Oma in a numb tone. Rogers went pale. He looked at her shaking hands, she was on the edge of collapsing from exhaustion. He knew she was going to volunteer.

"No one is staying behind," growled Jean as she strained to keep the borg in place.

Q Junior held up a hand. "I have an idea." His loud suggestion had everyone looking at him.

"Tricobalt warheads." Kara, Rogers, Lee and Saul Tigh stared at him in horror, Even Logan, Oma and Laura were speechless.

Nat, Six, Red One and Paul clearly didn't have a clue.

"What?" finally asked Six.

"Tricobalt warheads will affect their jump drives," said Oma in a worried tone.

Now Paul looked very interested. "Is this an Earth nuke?"

"Starfleet nuke," corrected Q Junior "and yes, it will affect the colonial and cylon drives unless you make two jumps away from here right now. I will stay behind to guide the nuke down."

"No, you won't" said Logan. "Give me the tricorder and I'll guide it down…" Jean gave him an alarmed look as she held the borg back.

Oma opened her mouth to protest and Rogers looked like he was about to have a stroke.

"Eh hem!" coughed Lady Q very loudly. "Everyone, please see the approaching borg while you dicker. I will stay behind." Her son began to protest and she gave him the Look that shut him up.

"I am not needed beyond this point except if Q Junior goes missing again." She looked at them all as if they were her children. "You will see me again in one form or the other. But for now, we need to stop the borg before the centurions, colonials and cylons get transformed into that." Lady Q pointed backwards at the terrifying blend of organic and metal parts that was getting closer.

"How?" finally asked Lee. Lady Q's eyes dropped to the holo-emitter he was still holding.

"Place it at this doorway and I will guide the warhead to this point, it will drill until it gets to the reactor which is several floors below this very point. You will get a tremendous chain reaction and you don't want to be anywhere near it." Her gaze also included Logan. He looked like he wanted to argue.

"We have to go now," said Rogers in a worried tone. "Or my vision comes true." Lee glared at him.

"Rogers!" Kara closed her eyes as she released a blistering curse.

Six, Nat, Ellen, Red One and Paul stared at the young colonial ensign.

"You're an oracle?" asked Six in shock. Rogers looked at her for a moment, before nodding solemnly. The ensign ignored Lee's angry expression.

"Then it's settled," said Logan gravely. He looked at Oma, Laura and Q Junior. "Get back to the shuttle, Q will beam to the Xavier and prep the tricobalt warhead for deployment and warn the colonial and cylon ships to jump." The two female teenagers took one look at his expression, glanced at Lady Q and left at a run without argument. Q Junior lingered for a moment, concern etched on his face, his mother nodded silently at him, a small smile on her face and her son left running without a word. Paul, Nat, Six, Ellen and Red One watched the three teenagers go with varying expressions of confusion. But they seemed too stunned to ask questions.

Logan turned to a relieved Rogers and a worried looking Kara. "Both of you are to get the XO to safety." The colonial male ensign nodded before turning to the very pale Saul Tigh. Kara silently walked over to the XO.

"Sir, we need to get you back to ship." For a moment, the usually cantankerous senior officer seemed to regain a bit of his spirit then he sighed as if confused. The XO looked back once at Paul Tighris before being pulled away by a rapidly walking Rogers and Kara.

"Lee," called Logan. "You have to leave now..."

"No, I will stay with you and Dr Grey to ensure that monstrosity…" He pointed at the borg horde who were still inching closer. "…destroyed."

"Then place the bloody holo-emitter at the damn doorway already!" shouted Lady Q. It made almost all of them jump. Lee, his face reddened, quickly placed the holo-emitter close to the female hologram's feet.

Logan turned to the three female cylons and the gold centurion. "Unless you want to die here, I suggest you get to your ships asap and jump."

"But…but we need him," said Nat as she pointed at Paul Tighris.

"Over my dead body," snapped Paul. "I'm staying here to ensure the borg are destroyed. Leave me alone." He ignored Ellen's hurt expression and turned back to watch the approaching horde. His dog Orion inched closer to Paul.

"Go." Commanded Jean as she stared at the three female cylons and Red One. "We will find you. Go now!" The dark command had the cylons moving instantly, they sent frightened looks over their shoulders as they started running. Red One wasn't far behind.

Lady Q sighed as she moved forward to stand over the holo-emitter.

"Dr Grey, it is imperative that you keep the psychic wall up until you return to the Xavier."

Lee frowned. "How do you expect her to…"

Logan ignored the colonial officer as he bent down to lift Jean in his arms. The telepath's hands glowed red as she folded them on her chest and closed her eyes. Lee's eyes widened when he realized her entire form was infused with the same glow.

"We will. Godspeed Lady Q." Lee felt his cheek twitch when he heard those words.

Lady Q smiled while ignoring the chanting borg behind her. "Now, run."

Logan nodded at Lee and Paul before running. "Mr Adama , Mr Tighris and your dog, are all welcome to the Xavier." Paul nodded his thanks while looking relieved; then he looked back at Lady Q for a moment before dashing out with his dog, Orion.

"Keep up Mr Adama!" Yelled Paul. The CAG gritted his teeth but had no choice but to follow, he looked back once to a scene that would give him nightmares for a long time. Lady Q standing serenely in the middle of the doorway, while behind her a mismash of borg and centurion and cylon and different humanoids slowly pushed the Dr Grey's glowing reddish psychic wall. Lee for a moment had a profound feeling of sadness and guilt that a hologram had more guts then he did, to be a beacon for a warhead.

Lee looked forward and kept running.

#

Logan was keenly aware of how easily Paul and Orion kept pace with him. He looked back briefly and cursed silently. Lee was falling behind. The mutant captain, Paul and Orion reached the shuttle way before the colonial and a nervous Kara was waiting beside it.

"Where the frak is…oh here comes Lee," said Kara with relief when her commanding officer appeared.

"Jean you alright?" asked Logan his heart pounding as he noticed the telepath had closed her eyes. He ignored a tired Lee who boarded as Kara closed the shuttle side door while tapping her x-combadge telling Oma to take them up. Paul collapsed against the wall with his dog placing its head in his lap. The cylon's hand was shaking as he petted his loyal hound.

"We are fine. Let us concentrate on the wall."

Logan felt the shuttle move under Oma's expert hands. "Have the colonials and cylons jumped?"

"Yes sir," replied Kara. "Q told us immediately he got to the Xavier."

"We're almost out of range." Logan felt his heart rate go up when he saw sweat on Jean's brow. "Send the bomb now."

Logan hesitated for a moment, his arms full of Jean who was now breathing heavily. "Do it." Kara went pale and pressed her combage.

"Q, send the bomb." Lee staggered to one of the windows to look down as the shuttle rapidly rose to the edge of the atmosphere then he felt a tingly sensation as lights began to form around him and the others. Paul sat up in shock and opened his mouth to yell.

"What the…"

Then all Lee could see outside the window was inner white metal walls.

"…frak?"

Dr Grey opened her eyes. "Welcome to the Xavier and for the record, don't swear around the children." Her voice was now her own but weak. Lee stared at her.

"You…what happened?"

"Good frakking question," asked an equally shaken and angry Paul. Orion was quivering beside him.

Logan helped the female mutant stand up. She swayed a bit before leaning on him then she looked at him and Paul bleakly. "Q had to beam us off the surface once he released the warhead. We're currently in the cargo bay of the Xavier."

Lee was too scared to ask the next question because he could tell the use of this weapon against the borg had greatly disturbed the Starfleet crew. He had to learn more about the borg. Lee forced himself to say the following words. "Is it done?"

Jean looked at him with her normal eyes which for some reason seemed more terrifying considering the mysterious power that lay behind them.

"It's done."

#

On the planet's surface. Lady Q smiled as she looked up, seeing through the concrete roof to track the tricobalt warhead speeding towards its final destination. She had her left hand behind her, holding up Dr Grey's psychic wall which was still kept at bay the borg while using her right hand to 'guide' down the warhead.

No Lord of Kobol was ever going to use the borg as pawns. Lady Q hoped Ares was paying attention because she was done playing nice with the stupid has-been.

The warhead drilled through the concrete roof, phased through the female Q before smashing the gathered borg, then reached the underground reactor which set off a tremendous chain reaction. But, the warhead was heading for the incomplete borg ship. Lady Q had infused the warhead as it passed through her with her essence. Once the warhead reached the borg ship and its occupants, everything was broken down to atoms in the midst of a tremendous firestorm that would eventually reach the planet's core.

At the end of it all, the once Thirteenth Tribe underground base was now a pool of lava that would burn for a hundred years.

Never mess with a Q.
