Chapter 2: Nosebleed

~.~

Based off of true events. Long story short, I was on a trip to Illinois for Thanksgiving. I woke up at around 7ish in the hotel in Illinois and had a major nosebleed, the first nosebleed I'd had in like 16 years, but we – my mom and I – concluded it was from the dry air.

Also, blood warning for this fanfic.

I suck what I assume to be snot up my nose and open my eyes. It's not until I see the blood that I shoot straight up in bed. My hands and shirt are covered in blood.

"Oh, crap." I whisper to myself. I start shaking as I look at my sleeping husband.

"Eret...Eret..." I say, shakily.

"Hmm? What do you need, love?"

"Wake up...I-I need you." Eret sits up and he gasps when he sees me.

"Darling, are you all right?"

"I don't know." Tears start to well in my eyes as Eret takes my hands.

"Let's go to Gothi's. She'll be able to help you. Can you walk?" I get up with Eret's help and he helps me walk downstairs and to Skullcrusher. Skullcrusher flies us to Gothi's – Odin knows why her house is high up on the top of a mountain – and Eret knocks on her door, holding me close to him. It's then we realize neither of us can translate Gothi's writing.

"Becky, you stay here. I'll go get Fishlegs." I nod as Gothi escorts me into her hut.

Gothi gives me a cloth to put against my nose, gesturing for me to lay my head forward. I nod, doing as I'm told.

A few minutes pass before Eret returns with Fishlegs.

"We're here, my love." Eret kneels in front of me while Fishlegs goes to Gothi's side so he can interpret her writing.

"She says if the blood stops coming out of your nose within five to ten minutes, you'll be okay. If not...wait, really? But she's already been through so much..."

"What, Fishlegs? What did she say?" Eret asks.

"If the blood doesn't stop flowing, you could have cancer." I gasp.

"My love, you'll be fine. I know you will." Eret says.

"But she also said it could be the dry air."

"Dry air? Fishlegs, we're on an island. How can we have dry air?" Eret asks.

"It doesn't matter where we are, Eret. Dry air can be anywhere. Let's just hope that's all it is."

The ten minutes pass before Eret carefully removes the cloth from my face, and he's relieved to find no blood is coming out of my nose anymore.

"She also said that if there's dried blood, that's normal. But if Becky has a nosebleed again within the next week, to come see her as soon as possible." I nod, shakily, hoping to not have another nosebleed. Eret gently cleans me up before helping me stand up.

"Let's go home." We thank Gothi and exit her hut.

Eret and I get home after dropping Fishlegs off at his place. Eret helps me inside and we sit on our couch, not really tired anymore.

"I'm scared, Eret."

"I am, too, my love. But I know we'll get through this. Even if it's just the dry air."

The next week slowly passes by, each day seeming longer than the last. We haven't told anyone about my nosebleed, and we won't until we know for sure that I'll be okay. The day the week after I had my nosebleed finally comes, and I wake up from a dream that morning, pleased to see no blood on our bed from my nose. I snuggle closer to Eret, sighing in relief that I'm okay.
