Chapter 22: Eret's 30th Birthday
This chapter takes place in Eret's POV, and Ruby (Eret and Becky's daughter) is four years old. To put that in perspective, Zephyr Haddock is just a baby in this fic!
Also, thanks to my friend GuardianDragon98 for the idea of Becky and Eret calling their daughter their "sweet jewel". Thank you!
I wake up to a weight on my chest. I open my eyes to see my little love grinning at me as she does.
"Happy Birthday, Daddy!"
Ah, yes. Today's my 30th birthday. The big 3-0.
"Thank you, my sweet jewel."
"What would you like to do today?" Becky asks me.
"Spend the day with my family. If that's alright with you, my loves."
"Hey, it's your day. Spend it however you want." My wife says, smiling at me.
"How about we spend most of the day sleeping?"
"Fine by me. I don't have any other plans for today."
"Nor do I."
"Ruby, do you have any plans for today?"
"Nope!"
"It's settled then. Back to sleep we go!"
~.~
After spending half the day asleep, we decide to go get some lunch in the Great Hall.
"Eret, Son of Eret! Happy Birthday!" Hiccup tells me.
"Thank you, Chief!"
"Where have you been? The day's half over!"
"We decided to spend half the day asleep. You haven't needed me, have you?" I ask, handing Ruby off to Becky.
"No, I haven't. But with little Zeph now here, I'm gonna need your help starting tomorrow. But today, my friend, take the day off. It's your special day." Hiccup says.
"Congratulations again, Chief. Astrid and Zephyr both doing okay?"
"They're both doing just fine, thank you. I won't keep you."
"Thanks, Chief."
Becky, Ruby and I soon eat lunch then head back home.
Becky and I spend the rest of the day teaching Ruby how to read, our favorite activity to do as a family, with breaks to eat dinner and a cake Becky had baked and decorated. She makes the best cakes, in my opinion.
That night, we head off to bed, Ruby in her room and Becky and I in ours.
"Did you have a good birthday?"
"The best. You know what made it the best?"
"The cake?"
"No. Although it was the best cake you've made by far, love."
"Thank you. Hmmm…lunch?"
"No."
"What, then?"
"Spending time with my family. Our family."
"You're such a sap."
"Oh, yeah?"
"Yeah."
I kiss my wife and we go to sleep.

Meanwhile, in Valhalla…
Ruby Nordisk is sitting at the table with Odin, Frigga, Thor, Loki, Becky's birth parents and Becky's newborn son and unborn daughter.
"To my son's 30th birthday. May he live a long and prosperous life." Ruby says, raising her glass.
"To my son-in-law's 30th birthday. May he treat my daughter well as he's done for years now." The raven-haired god raises his glass as well.
Loki winks at the woman whose son his daughter married.
Dun dun dunnnnnnn. Plot twist! Becky is actually the biological daughter of Loki, although her birth mother never told her about her paternal heritage. So it's kind of a Hercules story, except Becky's related to Loki and not Zeus and she doesn't have powers.
I came up with this while I was thinking of writing a one-shot about Eret's 30th birthday, and because of my love of Tom Hiddleston and his role as Loki, I couldn't help but put this in.
This means Becky's story is not over just because the HTTYD franchise (bittersweetly) ended, unless you count Rescue Riders.
