Chapter 27: Thunderstorm
Ruby is 20, and Dustin and Eira are both 6 in this.
(Eret's POV)
It's a stormy night on New Berk. Our little family of five has just gone to bed when a crack of thunder wakes up everyone in the house. My wife, not being fond of thunderstorms, huddles close to me in the dark.
"It's alright, love. It's just your uncle fighting bad guys." I tell her.
"Daddy?" I can hear our youngest daughter's voice, only six years old.
"Eira, it's alright, darling. It's just your great uncle fighting off bad guys." I can barely see our youngest, but I can tell she's scared by her voice.
"I don't like the thunder. It's scary. Is Mum scared, too?"
"I am, sweetie. But I've got your Daddy to protect me, and all of you."
"Come on, sweetie. It's okay." Eira jumps into our bed, wiggling her way under the covers between Becky and I.
We settle back to sleep before another crack of thunder wakes us up again.
"I ought to give your great uncle a piece of my mind for waking us up." Becky says.
"Mama? Daddy?"
"Yes, my little love?" I ask, recognizing our eldest's voice.
"Everything okay?"
"Just a bit of thunder and lightning, little love. Are you alright?"
"A bit scared, actually."
"Like I told your mother, it's just your great uncle, fighting bad guys. You don't want him to stop fighting bad guys, do you?"
"No. I'll go make sure Dustin is okay."
"Thank you, my little love."
"You're welcome, Daddy."
The three of us soon settle back to sleep, while I'm sure Ruby is with her little brother, protecting him like the good big sister she is.
Yes, storms can be scary, even when you know that it's just Thor fighting bad guys. But, when you're a family, storms can make you stronger as a unit.
