Chapter 3: A Darkness From Within

Disclaimer: I DO NOT own Dragon Ball Z or any of its characters.

Hello everyone loooooooooong time no see. I'm so sorry to have left all of you hanging. Life got in the way and to be honest I had written myself into a corner and just could not figure out how to move forward with either story. The other day, I sat down and decided that I was ready to continue on with my stories. I reread them for some inspiration and decided that, as far as this story is concerned, I was not satisfied with the way it was going and so I have decided that, starting with the end of this chapter, I am going to be rewriting the story. Don't be alarmed that chapters 4 and 5 are gone. I am working on them as we speak and I'm going to do all I can to have them posted in the next few days. With all that said please enjoy Chapter 3. The rewrite was very slight but you do need to read or the next few chapters won't make sense. Thank you to anyone that has come back to this story and anyone that has read this intro. Now, here we go...

The three years of training had begun for our heroes. Goku, Gohan, and Piccolo were training with each other. Vegeta had gotten Dr. Briefs to modify the spaceship, making it a training room complete with a gravity machine capable of increasing gravity 300 times Earth's normal gravity. Nonica had decided to get her training from Kami. She also trained with Vegeta whenever he would allow it. He proved to be a better training partner than Nonica had thought he would. She enjoyed the training sessions. He was her brother after all and real Saiyan training was just what the princess needed. But he was tough. "Nonica, come on. If you're not going to take this seriously, then go play with the Namek. I don't have time for this." Vegeta barked. They had been training for eight hours straight, with no breaks, and Nonica was getting tired.

"I'm trying, Vegeta."

"Don't try. Just do it. Living on this planet for all these years with those morons you call friends has made you soft. Be a Saiyan for once." Nonica sighed and took a fighting stance. She hated it when he said that to her. She was a Saiyan dammit. She charged at Vegeta and the sparing resumed. Vegeta was matching her blow for blow, kick for kick. It wasn't long before Vegeta connected with his sister's face knocking her back a few steps. She stood there with her hand covering her nose. Taking her hand away from her face and looking down at it she saw blood dripping from her nose onto her hand. Anger filled her body. She began to shake with rage. She clenched her fists tight and lunged at Vegeta landing a fist on the side of his face, knocking him to the floor. She leaped on him and continued her attack, punching Vegeta over and over. She had no control over herself. Vegeta managed to get his bearing. He grabbed her arms, put one foot on her stomach, and flipped her over his head towards the other side of the room. He got off the floor just in time to block Nonica's next attack, but she just kept coming at him. He could see in her eyes that she wasn't just sparing with him anymore, she was deadly serious. He didn't know whether to be proud of her or scared. "Nonica, stop," he said, but she wouldn't. Vegeta was backing away and she was still on him. "Nonica, enough. I said ENOUGH!" he slapped her across her face. She stopped as if being snapped out of a trance. Vegeta stood in front of his sister and stared at her.

Nonica looked at her hands. Her knuckles were busted from punching Vegeta. Her hands shaking and her breathing was heavy. "What was that?" she looked at Vegeta, fear in her eyes, "What the hell was that?"

"Saiyan rage." he replied, "I take it you haven't felt it in a while." He smirked.

Nonica began to back away. "No. No, it was something more than that. I had no control."

Vegeta walked toward her, "It's no big deal. Your Saiyan instincts kicked in. So what?" He tried to put his hand on her shoulder.

She recoiled from him, "No, don't touch me. I have to go." She ran out of the ship and took off into the sky. She was panicked and scared. She had just tried to kill her brother and she couldn't stop herself. It was as if she were being controlled by her rage. She had not felt rage like that since the battle with Frieza. She was shaken to her core. She flew as fast as she could towards Goku's house, knowing Piccolo would be there. She wanted her Piccolo. She needed his comfort. While on her way she sensed his energy and realized that he was still training with Goku and Gohan. She flew in that direction.

The three warriors were finishing up for the day when they sensed Nonica's energy. "Hey, Nonica's coming," Goku said. Piccolo turned in the direction her energy was coming from and saw her on the horizon. He smiled. Goku looked at Piccolo and saw his expression. "Wow, Piccolo, I don't think I've ever seen you smile so much." he laughed. Piccolo blushed slightly. The warrior from Namek began to sense that something was wrong and took off to meet his princess. Goku was confused, "Gosh, I hope everything is okay. Let's give them some privacy, Gohan." he said, "Come on, I bet your mom has dinner ready." The two left so that the lovers could have a moment to themselves.

Nonica saw Piccolo flying toward her, she sped up. Piccolo stopped just in front of her and Nonica flew right into his arms, putting her arms around his waist and burying her face n his chest. She was shaking and he could tell that she had been crying. He held her tightly, began to stroke her hair, and asked, "Nonica, what happened? What's wrong?"

"I...I...I don't know." she sobbed.

Piccolo lowered them to the ground and tried to calm her down. "Tell me what happened. You went sparing with Vegeta today, didn't you? Did he do something?" Nonica lifted her face and looked up at the man she loved. That was when Piccolo saw her face. There was still blood all over her nose and there was a bruise. It wasn't too bad, it would go away quickly. Saiyans were very resilient like that, but it was still enough to send Piccolo into a rage of his own. "What the hell did he do to you?"

"I'm fine. We were sparing and he hit me. Then...then...I snapped. I tried to kill him." she said, wiping her eyes. "I flew at him and I tried to kill him. I couldn't stop myself. I was in such a rage. He slapped me and then I stopped."

"But, why are you so upset? It's not so unbelievable that someone would want to try and kill Vegeta."

"You're not hearing me, Piccolo. I snapped from just one punch to the face. I literally was trying to kill him. Look!" Nonica showed Piccolo her hands. Her knuckles were still bleeding from when she busted them on Vegeta's face. Piccolo was starting to understand then. It was all over his face. "You see? I haven't felt like this since the battle on Namek. I couldn't control myself. Had it been anybody other than Vegeta I think I might have killed them. What is wrong with me?"

Piccolo took off his cape and ripped it into strips. He took the strips and bandaged Nonica's hands. When he finished he took another strip and wiped the blood off Nonica's face. He smiled and kissed her on the forehead. "There is nothing with you. You were sparing with your arrogant, overbearing brother, he hit you, and you lost your temper. That's all."

Nonica shook her head, "No it was something more than that. I know it. Something is wrong with me." She was beginning to calm herself down. Her mind was starting to slow down and she knew what she needed to do. "I need to go see my dad," she said.

"Why do you need to see Kami?" Piccolo questioned. No big secret that Piccolo strongly dislikes Kami.

"Because he raised me and trained me. Maybe he'll be able to help me figure out what's wrong with me. Piccolo, what happened today is not okay. I was not myself."

Piccolo placed a hand on her cheek and replied, "There is nothing wrong with you, but if it will make you feel better then I guess you should go see the old fool."

This was nothing new. Piccolo respected the fact that Nonica saw Kami as her father. He had taken her in, fed her, clothed her, and taught her everything she knew. But that was the only respect Piccolo gave Kami. Nonica just smiled at her love. She gently kissed his lips and she took off for Kami's lookout tower.

Nonica soon arrived at the Lookout. The events of her training session still weighed heavily on her mind. She wasn't sure if Kami had any answers for her, perhaps she just needed her dad. He had always been able to help her work through the hard things. Always been able to help her go deep within herself and face her fears and insecurities. That's how it's been since he met her and took her in as his daughter. She had been a little monster before she met Kami and Mr. Popo. Who knows what she would have ended up doing if it hadn't been for them. When she landed on the Lookout, Kami came out to greet his daughter having sensed her approach. "Nonica, hello my darling child."

Nonica smiled and walked over to her adoptive father. They embraced. "Hello, Father." She tried to look like her usual happy self, but Kami saw right through that.

"Something troubles you, my child. What's the matter?"

"Something happened today. I...I'm scared."

Kami put an arm around his daughter. "Come. Let's go inside. Popo will make you some tea and you can tell me all about it." The two walked into the temple together. They sat down and had tea together and Nonica told Kami everything that had happened with Vegeta.

"It was so scary, Father, I was not in control of my actions," Nonica concluded.

Kami thought for a while about his daughter's story. He had feared for many years that something like this was going to occur. He thought back to when he first met Nonica. She was just a little girl out on her own. He didn't know that she was a Saiyan, but he could sense that something was different about her. Nonica had a darkness inside of her. It was something that she would have trouble with as a child controlling so he taught her to hide it away. Nonica was instructed on how to, in a sense, bottle up that darkness and keep it from coming to the surface. Now, it seems, that darkness is trying to find its way to the surface and Nonica may be having trouble controlling it. She must have triggered it on Namek. "It seems that the darkness that I first sensed in you is trying to manifest itself. You have to learn to control it." Kami told her.

"How do I do that?"

"Honestly, I'm not sure. This Saiyan instinct. I have no experience with this. Perhaps Vegeta can give you more insight."

"Kami, you know as well as I do that Vegeta isn't going to help me contain anything that will make me 'more Saiyan'. I guess I'll have to figure it out myself."

"Yes, well, if you need anything from me, know that I am here."

Nonica smiled. This man had always been there for her. He loved her like his own child and always treated her as such. "I know. Thank you. For everything." She got up, hugged her father, and left the Lookout. She decided that she had had enough training for the day. Her knuckles still hurt and her face still throbbed a little bit. She headed home to relax and forget about everything that had happened that day.

Meanwhile, far away on a planet located in Otherworld, a powerful sorceress was planning a takeover and she was looking for power. "Mistress Davina, I think I may have found a very promising recruit for your uprising."

"Is that so? Well, let me see." Davina walked over to her servant who was looking into a large mirror hanging on the wall. An evil grin made its way across her face. "Well, she does seem like our kind of girl. Good-hearted yet she has darkness writhing inside her. She is strong and powerful. She's perfect."

Her servant was pleased that he had pleased his mistress. He added, "And, she's a Saiyan. The last female of the race. Their princess in fact."

"Marvelous. A rare find indeed. Wonderful job. I will continue to monitor her myself. We will begin preparations to make contact soon." Davina looked on at the image of the princess in her mirror. Her evil grin was still plastered on her face. "Yes, she is absolutely perfect."

Something terrible is on the horizon for our Saiyan Princess. Who is this Davina and what exactly does she want with Nonica? Can the princess get a handle on this darkness inside before it's too late? Find out next time on Princess of Saiyans Part 2.
