Chapter 43: Nightmares (Part 2)
(Eret's POV)
I wake up to the sound of sobbing. It's been 3 weeks since Becky's fear came true. She thankfully isn't suffering through many of the physical effects from it, but, emotionally, it's taking a toll on her.
"Honey? Are you alright?"
"…No…"
"What's wrong, my love?"
"I had a really bad nightmare."
"About you-know-who again?"
"No. It was about you-know-what. Over and over and over again."
"Oh, love. I'm so so sorry. What can I do to help you?"
"Just hold me."
"I can do that. I can so do that."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
I hold my wife close to me so I can provide her comfort as best I can, but not too close that she's in any pain from being squeezed too hard.
I begin to hum "All That You Are" to her, which is our song.
She begins to cry some more, and I kiss her head, wiping away every single tear.
"Shhh. You're alright, my love. You're alright. I'm here."
"Eret?"
"Yes, my darling?"
"Thank you. For always being there when I need you."
"You are so welcome, my sweetheart. I'll always love you and I will always be there for you when you need me."
She breaks down again and I begin to rock her, not knowing what else to do.
"Just let it out, my love. Just let it out."
"I – I miss Amethyst. I – I'm not saying you don't provide me comfort. You really do, I just…I just miss being able to fly."
"I miss Amethyst, too, love. And Skullcrusher. But they're with Toothless and the other dragons. They're safer that way."
"I know."
"It's okay to miss them, baby. Maybe one day we'll see them again. Are you going to be okay to go back to sleep?"
"I think so. Thank you, Eret."
"You're welcome, my love. I'll always be here when you need me."
We soon head off back to sleep, and, thankfully, have peaceful dreams.
