Ann sat in the Tool Shop, listening to her father lecture her about constructing reliable tools.
"Ann, are you even listening? You must make tools that Woody may use in constructing buildings. If you don't listen, then you might make a tool that isn't reliable, then that tool will be used to make a non-sturdy house…" he continued rambling.
"Daaad, that's great and all," she interrupted, whining slightly, "but can't I go to the caves now?"
"Hmm… well… I see no harm. Bring back some good ores and I will let your mishaps for today slide, alright, Ann?"
Ann beamed and leapt up, hugging her father. "Thank you!" she exclaimed and ran out the door. She ran north, up towards Moonlight Cave, hoping that her latest obsession would be there.
She immediately entered the dark cave and let her eyes slowly adjust as she peered around the dark corners, finally hearing something. It sounded like a shovel, hard at work. Ann walked towards the noise, and bumped into a brown haired boy on the way over. She saw his face and reddened… jumping back. "K-Kurt!" she yelled.
The quiet boy turned to face her. "Hn?" he gave a quick look-over. "Ann…" he said.
She went rigid. "Y-yes?" she asked.
"Hm," he sounded, shaking his head.
Ann sighed, still bright red. She was never happier that the caves were so dark. At least this way, Kurt couldn't see her blushing.
"Oh," he said. "I… need a new hammer. Mine broke remodeling."
"I… I was… I was just getting ore for a new hammer! Better than the last one!" she lied.
Kurt gave a faint smile at Ann. Despite the darkness, his narrow eyes and sharp mind knew she had been blushing the entire time, the stuttering gave it away.
"I… I'll help you find that ore," he said, showing his true smile that only his brother had seen up till that point.
Ann froze, ready to pass out. Doing something with Kurt? Dream come true. She couldn't have been happier… until he reached for her hand and led her off into the darkness.
"Stairs are over here."
